With advancements in the science of detection and attribution studies, the influence of climate change over many events has now been quantified. Because of the rapidly increasing temperatures, vulnerable populations (adults older than 65 years, and children younger than one year of age) were exposed to 3·7 billion more heatwave days in 2021 than annually in 1986–2005 (indicator 1.1.2), and heat-related deaths increased by 68% between 2000–04 and 2017–21 (indicator 1.1.5), a death toll that was significantly exacerbated by the confluence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the local cooling and overall health benefits of urban greenspaces, only 277 (27%) of 1038 global urban centres were at least moderately green in 2021 (indicator 2.2.3), and the number of households with air conditioning increased by 66% from 2000 to 2020, a maladaptive response that worsens the energy crisis and further increases urban heat, air pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. [...]millions of people do not have access to the energy needed to keep their homes at healthy temperatures, preserve food and medication, and meet the seventh Sustainable Development Goal (to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all). Factors that affect the behavior of shallot farmers in the use of pesticides in Brebes Regency, Central Java, Indonesia

The using of pesticides in shallot cultivation in the Brebes Regency is very intensive. It can have an impact on health and the environment. Several factors influence the behavior of shallots farmers in the use of pesticides. The purpose of this research was to identify the dominant factors that influence the behavior of shallots farmers in the use of pesticides. Interviews were conducted on 228 shallots farmers in Brebes, Central Java, Indonesia. Information collected includes the behavior of farmers in the use of pesticides, the characteristics of farmers, agricultural facilities, and farmers' knowledge of pesticides. Data analysis used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) techniques. Based on the results of the analysis, that the behavior of farmers in the use of pesticides was influenced by the characteristic factors of 8%, agricultural facilities 26% and knowledge by 36%. The variables that have the most influence on the characteristic factors were the length of farming, the factor of the facility was the supply of seeds, and the factor of knowledge was information between groups. The dominant factor that most influences the behavior of farmers in the use of pesticides was the knowledge factor with the most dominant variable was the information between groups. Based on our study, it was revealed that effective counseling about the wise use of pesticides could be done through empowering farmer groups.

The dynamic model of paddy field conversion control in Citarum watershed

The rate of population growth and the increase in food needs for consumption have made the need for paddy fields higher. On the other hand, the pressure on paddy fields is quite intense so that the conversion of paddy fields is quite challenging to be controlled. Moreover, the concerns about food security and food sovereignty have become critical issues. The high demand for land utilization has caused pressure on paddy fields in the Citarum watershed. The objective of this study is to build a model for maintaining paddy fields in the Citarum watershed. The study was conducted from June to September 2015. The method of this research is a modelling using system dynamics approach by simulating time series data. From the simulation, it can be concluded that the rate of conversion of paddy fields will still be high if there is no specific policy in its protection. This fact can be seen from various scenario conditions, either in existing circumstances, in the optimistic scenario, as well as in a moderate scenario. The strategy that can be done is that paddy fields should be specially protected or owned by the government to minimize the rate of conversion.

Membrane separation technology has been widely applied in various industrial sectors. Some modification on membrane composition and structure is conducted to improve membrane filtration performance and mitigate fouling phenomena. Fouling on membrane surfaces lead to decrease permeabilty, increase energy consumtion, and shorten membrane life time. The aim of this study is to manufacture PES membrane which involved inorganic additives consits of Carbon and Fe2O3 particles to mitigate fouling tendency. All of membranes were prepared using phase inversion method with dissolving PES polymer into dimethyl formamide (DMF). The result membranes were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to investigate morphological structure and breaking strength to determine mechanical property. Membrane filtration performance were tested using soy protein solution in cross-flow system. The results showed that the addition of inorganic particles in PES membrane caused the increasing of pores which lead to increase pure water flux from 15.14 L/m2.h to 58.67 L/m2.h. Fouling mitigation test towards soy protein also showed that carbon and Fe2O3 particles enhanced membrane flux recovery ratio from 64.5 to 76%. Furthermore, the inorganic particles presence in PES membrane also improved the tensile strength of membrane up to 128 Mpa.

Characterization of Activated Carbon Prepared From Banana Peels: Effect of Chemical Activators on the Adsorption of Gas Emissions

The aims of the study were to investigate characteristics of activated carbon prepared from banana peels as adsorbent for the removal gasesemission from motorcycles. The effect of differents chemocalactivators and contact time were studied on the characteristics of banana peels raw carbon (RC) and chemically activated carbon (CAC) such as moisture content, ash content, volatile matter. The best ofIodine adsorption capacity of CAC H2SO4 3N 3 hour contact, was obtained at 913,68 mg/g adsorbent. Structure and morphology ofRC and CAC were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that RC and CAC could significantly adsorbed the CO and SO2gasesemissions from motorcycles, but not applicable for NO, NOx gases. After 10 minutes analysis using gas emission Analyzer, CO gas could be removed, from initial 16014 ppm to 3578 ppm using CAC H2SO4 adsorbent, while SO2 gas could also be partly removed from 217 ppm to 19 ppm using CAC ZnCl2 *** peels carbon produced was suitable for application in removing CO and SO2gases emissions from motorcycles and it helps to reduce the green house gas effects of fossil fuel usage to the environment.

The solution to solve these challenges is the waste management. The waste management is needed to solve starting from upstream to downstream. The waste management in downstream is in the landfill. The management Landfill not only manages solid waste but also waste water treatment. One form of waste water treatments in a landfill is the leachate treatment. The leachate treatment is a priority for management in landfill because it can reduce water, soil, air pollution in the landfill and the surrounding environment. In order to determine the best option among several alternatives to manage the leachate treatment, this research used Analytic Network Process (ANP) with three levels (actors, criteria, and alternatives). Secondary and primary data collection was carried out from April until June 2019 in Indonesia. Data were collected through a survey using questionnaire instrument. Participants of questionnaire amount of 20 people. The participants from lecturers, government, and society. The finding of this research showed that the leachate treatment using coagulation-flocculation was easier to be used in Indonesia.
