The main contributions of digitalisation to servitisation

Digital servitisation has aroused the interest of many researchers and managers. IoT, big data, and cloud computing are the most prominent technologies. This study sought to investigate the impact of other digital technologies (DTechs) on servitisation. This research is based on an exploratory-qualitative approach covering 146 published articles selected from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. We grouped the digital technologies that impacted servitisation positively. Our results were synthesised into four categories. These procedures allowed for building a framework that shows the contribution potential of digitisation as a success factor of servitisation, as well as competitive opportunities based on the combination of DTs. Digitisation is confirmed as the main driver for the development of digital-servitisation based business models. Our results aim to contribute to the industry in terms of establishing innovation strategies for business models. Copyright © 2025 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Tropical mountain peatlands in Brazil’s Southern Espinhaço Range are vital ecosystems,acting as carbon reservoirs,hydrological buffers,and biodiversity hotspots while sustaining traditional livelihoods and preserving paleoenvironmental *** their importance,peatlands outside protected areas face degradation by grazing and fires,threatening their ability to regulate ecosystem processes sensitive to temperature,such as greenhouse gas emissions,water cycling,biological activity,and organic matter *** 2016,we have monitored peat temperatures in two contrasting peatlands–one preserved(within a protected area)and one disturbed(outside the protected area)–to understand how anthropogenic disturbances and climate variability impact these fragile *** patterns dominated temperature variation,accounting for 60% of air and 81%–92% of peatland temperature ***,average temperatures and amplitudes differed between peatlands and *** variability revealed stronger trends in the disturbed peatland,where a 1℃ increase in air temperature caused the trend to increase 0.70℃–0.87℃ on average at depths of 0.85 m–0.92 *** contrast,the preserved peatland showed smaller increases(0.20℃–0.24℃)at comparable depths(1.06 m–1.24 m),suggesting a greater *** variation in the monitored peatlands was majorly driven by seasonal patterns,as revealed by time series decomposition and sinewave *** temperature and amplitude varied between the two peatlands and among sampling sites,reflecting differences in environmental conditions and measurement *** variability also exhibited distinct effects between peatlands and monitoring *** time series trend component showed more pronounced fluctuations at shallower depths and in the disturbed *** every 1℃ increase in the trend component of the air temperature,the trend component of the peatland time series increased by 0.70℃ and 0.87℃on averag

Application of a Multicriteria Decision Model for the Selection of Conversion Pathways for Biofuel production and Management in a Medium-Sized Municipality in the State of Paraná

Biogas and biofuels have emerged as viable alternatives to meet the targets established by the Paris Agreement. Considering the numerous variables involved in biogas production and the need to understand growth opportunities, technological improvements, and policies aimed at stabilizing the sector, a bibliographic review was conducted, analyzing 145 scientific articles. This analysis revealed a research gap related to biogas, energy generation, and the application of multicriteria decision-making methods. This study aims to contribute to filling this gap through the application of a multicriteria model designed to assist public decision-makers in selecting among three conversion pathways for biogas and biofuel production: pyrolysis, covered lagoon biodigester, and continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR) biodigester. These alternatives were evaluated based on environmental, social, economic, and technical criteria, applying the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) methods. The AHP method was used to rank the criteria and their respective sub-criteria, while the TOPSIS method helped select the alternative closest to the "ideal positive solution" among the conversion routes analyzed. The ranking results showed that environmental and social criteria received the highest scores compared to technical and economic criteria. © 2025 by the authors.

The purpose of this paper is to present a multicriteria methodology with spatial visualization, in order to identify most vulnerable areas regarding violence. We used Dominance-based Rough Set Approach to aggregate social, economic, and demographic characteristics, as well to include the preferences of a decision maker. Among the multicriteria methods, this one has the advantage of do not require the establishment of parameters, such as weights and thresholds. The decision maker only needs to choose a set of reference examples that represents his opinion toward the problem. This method applies decision rules to classify the set of alternatives. In this paper, this methodology was used aiming to classify the census tracts of a city in relation to the vulnerability to homicide. The result is a classification of all 1,854 census tracts of the city of Recife (Brazil) into five vulnerability levels. Based on this application, we can conclude, therefore, that this method may be useful to define where public policies should be allocated, when it is concerned with reduction of violence. © 2016 IEEE.

This bibliometric study examines publications spanning from 1995 to 2023 on biobased materials for food-packaging (BMFP), often proposed as alternatives to petroleum-based on FP. The number of articles related to this topic exhibited an annual growth rate (AGR) of 105.7% from 2019 to 2023 compared to 1995 to 2018, indicating a growing interest in this field over the past 28 years, with 2082 articles published in high-impact journals. Notably, countries such as China, India, and Brazil demonstrate significant scientific output per capita, with influential groups based in institutions from Malaysia and Spain (Universiti Putra Malaysia, IATA, and CSIC). Among over 4,000 key-words, those with high co-occurrence were analyzed to identify crucial research areas and current knowledge gaps. Using the SC database, 1,233 articles from 2019 to 2023 were selected to explore the research landscape and key areas of interest within BMFP. Temporal keyword analysis revealed emerging themes, including active food packaging (AFP) and its antimicrobial capabilities, nanotechnology and composites in FP, biodegradability and edible-films, biopolymers for food-packaging, and pectin-based active packaging materials. Thus, eco-friendly food packaging solutions based on nanoparticles and polysaccharides show prospects for development or contribution to advancements. Consequently, the use of AFP demonstrates a prosperous trend for the food packaging-industry in the future. © 2025 The Author(s)

Brazil responds for an approximately one third of the world's charcoal production, with 90% is used to produce pig iron, iron alloys, among others. Surely, 70% of the charcoal is still produced by traditional handicraft method, with almost half of the firewood from the native forests. The pressure for ecologically correct and self-sustainable production has driven the search for cleaner and more efficient technologies. These can contribute to change the present charcoal production model in Brazil. This paper intends to show the research on a metallic vertical cylinder for a charcoal production unit as a model that can meet the basic requirements of being ecologically correct, socially fair, economically and then be culturally accepted to replace the traditional model. According to the sustainability pillars, this model has shown the possibility of a 25% of firewood saving, pointing out to an economical feasibility, an ecologically correct procedure and then to comply with the Brazilian labor legislation, achieving a socially fair condition for the work force. Finally it was evidenced that the process' crucial point is to burn the dirt smoke generated during the wood's carbonization process and the use of the generated heat for a previous drying of the firewood. © 2013 PICMET.

The general aim of the research was to analyse the scientific production on the circular economy of water in the Web of Science database. The systematic and integrative review used the Methodi Ordinatio, which made it possible to identify the most relevant articles on the circular economy of water. The main findings were the identification of 38 articles on the circular economy of water, in which the years 2018 and 2020 were the years with the most publications. The contexts already studied demonstrated that the circular economy is related to assessing the life cycle, the techniques related to the reuse and recovery of water, education models and strategic issues. The areas surveyed were mainly associated with the public area, tourism, entrepreneurship and manufacturing. It is essential to emphasise the importance of research related to water since the concern with this resource has been observed. The discussions are far from being exhausted;therefore, a proposal for a future agenda has been presented, indicating the direction for future research about the theme. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

The purpose of this study is to propose a sustainable business development concept. For such purpose a research was developed of the literature on the several discussions that are focused on the approaches. It sets off from an approach exposed by Jabareen (2008) that relates the existence of seven different concepts. Despite the effort of that author be considered consistent in the sense of establishing a new "conceptual framework" for sustainable development, it is assessed that there are many "lacks" for the concept to be rendered in a univocal manner by the business organizations. Such impossibility in handling the issue implies in perpetuating distortions that result in a situation that is considered to be critical: the inconsistent use of the concept. In this sense, this paper seeks to develop a conceptualization from approaches that, in a strict sense, lean towards divergence. Thus, this paper proposes to assess the converging and diverging points and develop a synthesis that could be used by the production systems.

The present work focuses on a case study applying a maintenance management system model based on the degree of maturity in a thermoplastic industry that operates in the Industrial Pole of Manaus, in the state of Amazonas (Brazil). The system must support the decisions of the organization and promote progress in the company's continuous improvement system. The study was based on the answers to a questionnaire submitted to the maintenance, production and process engineering sectors. Internal perception was compared with external perception, in order to perform an analysis of the field of view of the three sectors on the current position of the maintenance sector in relation to the maturity model used for this analysis. From the application of the model, it was possible to develop a strategic action plan, based on lean practices, so that the maintenance areas advance towards the higher levels of the maturity scale, aiming to reach and maintain performance levels recognized as excellence. © 2022 Elsevier B.V..
