Dasyprocta fuliginosa had a gestational period of approximately 104 days, to date there are few descriptions of fetal development in this species. From animals collected through subsistence hunting in the amazon, it was possible to follow the fetal development of the female urogenital apparatus of animals from 56 days until the end of gestation. The kidneys of younger fetuses showed discreet lobations, and from the 75th gestational day onwards they were defined as smooth unilobed organs. The glomerular composition of the cortical region of the youngest fetuses had morphological differences, with poorly developed and undifferentiated capillaries. This composition was transmuted around the 82nd gestational day. Throughout the fetal development process the ureters inserted dorsolaterally to the urinary bladder, communicating with the fetal umbilical funiculus through the urachus, and with the urethra. The same occurred with the reproductive system, which was composed of a double-type uterus, with two uterine horns, a septum and two individual cervical canals, in addition to two uterine tubes, two ovaries, a vagina with a semi-open vaginal membrane, and a vulva, which made up the external genitalia. This constitution reveals that D. fuliginosa during the fetal phase has a well-developed morphology of the reproductive and urinary systems.

Bidding processes are common for transparency purposes in several areas, such as civil construction and energy exploration. Usually, public agencies are responsible for the projects and formal notices are launched for the competition of interested parties. Also, those processes may occur in the private sector, and the decision process involves multiple dimensions that may be conflicting. The present study presents a multicriteria model to support decisions involving the allocation of deliveries (pallets) in the bidding process of a beverage company, where a set of carriers compete for the distribution of beverages in routes. On each route, there is a specific set of competing carriers. In addition, a carrier can participate in the process of more than one route, however, the carrier's capacity must be respected, considering the combination of allocations received on the solution. The Best-Worst Method (BWM) is used to obtain weights for criteria that are later applied in the PROMETHEE II method. The net flows from PROMETHEE II are then used in an assignment model, which outputs the share allocated to each carrier in each route. The tests and models include several practical constraints, and the approach achieved consistent results that may be replicated to support decision-making and future processes.

The aviation industry has a significant impact on the environment, accounting for 13% of global fossil fuel consumption and 2% of annual CO 2 emissions. One of the factors that increase this consumption is engine degradation due to the accumulation of dirt on compressor blades. To mitigate this effect and restore efficiency, compressor washing is essential, but it requires high water consumption. This study analyzes the operational, economic, and environmental benefits of optimizing this process, based on the Blue Economy. Fuel efficiency was assessed using the Fuel/RTM indicator, financial viability using ROI, and environmental impacts using the MIF index. The results indicate a 1.8% gain in fuel efficiency, annual savings of $179,000, a 6.9% reduction in environmental impact, and a 50% drop in water use. The findings demonstrate that sustainable maintenance practices generate economic and environmental gains, contributing to the conservation of water resources in aviation.

This bibliometric study examines publications spanning from 1995 to 2023 on biobased materials for food-packaging (BMFP), often proposed as alternatives to petroleum-based on FP. The number of articles related to this topic exhibited an annual growth rate (AGR) of 105.7% from 2019 to 2023 compared to 1995 to 2018, indicating a growing interest in this field over the past 28 years, with 2082 articles published in high-impact journals. Notably, countries such as China, India, and Brazil demonstrate significant scientific output per capita, with influential groups based in institutions from Malaysia and Spain (Universiti Putra Malaysia, IATA, and CSIC). Among over 4,000 key-words, those with high co-occurrence were analyzed to identify crucial research areas and current knowledge gaps. Using the SC database, 1,233 articles from 2019 to 2023 were selected to explore the research landscape and key areas of interest within BMFP. Temporal keyword analysis revealed emerging themes, including active food packaging (AFP) and its antimicrobial capabilities, nanotechnology and composites in FP, biodegradability and edible-films, biopolymers for food-packaging, and pectin-based active packaging materials. Thus, eco-friendly food packaging solutions based on nanoparticles and polysaccharides show prospects for development or contribution to advancements. Consequently, the use of AFP demonstrates a prosperous trend for the food packaging-industry in the future. © 2025 The Author(s)

Litter production is an ecosystem process responsible for adding nutrients to the soil. In addition, litter contributes to increased soil fertility and respiration and prevents soil degradation and erosion. However, in the Caatinga around 40 % of the native vegetation has already been modified, resulting in the loss of this material. In this study, we evaluated the deposition and decomposition of litter, its relationship with meteorological variables, nutrient concentration, nutrient return and nutrient use efficiency in a dry forest in the semi-arid region of Brazil. Average litter production was 864.69 kg DM ha -1 year -1 , with greater deposition during the dry season. The main component was the leaf fraction, which accounted for 61 % of the total litter. This fraction showed a negative correlation with global solar radiation (-0.70), net radiation (-0.75) and canopy temperature (-0.61). The remaining fractions (twigs, reproductive structures and miscellaneous items) cannot therefore be linked to the explanatory group, and present isolated effects. The average rate of decomposition was 1.60 year -1 and ranged from 0.14 to 3.99 year -1 over the five years of the evaluation, while nutrient return equalled litter production, especially for Ca 2+ (39.4 kg ha -1 year -1 ), N (20.7 kg ha -1 year -1 ) and K + (13.1 kg ha -1 year -1 ). Nutrient use efficiency was relatively high for P, Mg 2+ and K + . Our results suggest that the Caatinga presents a unimodal seasonal pattern of litterfall, with greater production during rainier years and peaks in production during the transition between winter and autumn. Litter production led to an increase in organic matter in the soil, acting as a source of nutrients and protecting the soil from impacts caused by environmental conditions.

The main source of vitamin D in dogs is their diet. Information on vitamin D in dogs and on factors that may influence the serum concentration of 25(OH)D are still scarce. This study aimed at determining serum 25(OH)D values in healthy dogs and evaluating its association with factors such as sex, age, and diet. Blood samples were collected from healthy intact male and female dogs divided into two groups: (G1) 30 dogs (Beagles), 15 adults and 15 puppies, receiving standardized diet;(G2) 29 dogs of different breeds, adults, receiving varied diets. The 25(OH)D was analyzed by the chemiluminescence method. Serum levels of 25(OH)D are not associated with sex, but the concentration is lower in puppies (30.6 ng/mL) than in adults (34.9 ng/mL) (G1), P < 0.05. There was no difference between the types of diet: commercial food (40.6 ng/mL), and the combination of commercial and homemade food (36.0 ng/mL), P = 0.2. The concentration of 25(OH)D may not be directly associated with vitamin D intake (G1), P = 0.08, which emphasizes the importance of considering and investigating multiple variables that may influence the availability of vitamin D in their circulation. © 2020, Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature.

Over the past 10 years, materials science and engineering have shown increasing interest in incorporating lignocellulosic fibers into polymer and hybrid composites (LCF-CPH). This bibliometric analysis, covering the period 2012 to 2022, examines the current state of research on the application of these fibers in composites, with the aim of identifying significant contributions, new trends, and possible future directions. The analysis included a comprehensive database search using specific criteria, which revealed a significant increase in research activity on a variety of lignocellulosic fibers, such as flax, jute, hemp and sisal. This growth is particularly evident in the packaging, automotive, aerospace and construction industries. Hybrid composites based on these fibers have gained prominence due to their enhanced properties, which include improvements in mechanical, thermal and environmental characteristics. The findings of this research have significant implications for governments, corporations, and academic institutions. Researchers gain a deeper understanding of emerging trends, industry gains valuable insights into the advantages of adopting lignocellulosic fibers, and policymakers gain essential information to support the development of sustainable composites. In the field of advanced composites and sustainable materials, this work lays a solid foundation for future research and industrial applications. © 2024

The aims of this work were (1) to characterize the proteome profile of Saimiri collinsi (amazon squirrel monkey) sperm, and (2) to evaluate if there are meaningful differences in sperm quality and sperm protein landscape during the non-fatted and fatted conditions of the animals. Semen of adult males (n=4) was collected by electroejaculation and diluted in ACP-118® extender. Sperm concentration, motility, vigor, plasma membrane integrity and functionality, and sperm morphology were evaluated. Sperm proteome was characterized by mass spectrometry. The non-fatted and fatted conditions were defined according to the fattening index. There were increases in seminal volume, pH, and sperm motility of S. collinisi during the fatted in comparison with the non-fatted condition (p < 0.05). Animals in the fatted condition had greater body mass (909 ± 23.98 g) in comparison with the non-fatted condition (818.8 ± 5.97 g, p = 0.0001). There were 1161 proteins identified in the sperm of the monkeys. Thirty-seven proteins were upregulated (p < 0.05) in non-fatted condition (such as coiled-coil domain-containing protein 105, protein kinase C alpha type isoform X1, pyruvate dehydrogenase protein X component – mitochondrial and heat shock 70 kDa protein 1-like) and they were involved in cellular and metabolic processes, catalytic activity and binding. Twenty-eight sperm proteins proteins were upregulated (p < 0.05) in fatted condition (such as Cytochrome b-c1 complex subunit 2, mitochondrial; calcium-binding mitochondrial carrier protein SCaMC-1-like; heat shock 70 kDa protein 13, and izumo sperm-egg fusion protein 1), participating in cellular processes, metabolic processes, and localization, binding, catalytic activity, ATP-dependent activity, and transport activity. Functional annotations of sperm proteins upregulated in non-fatted condition were described as hydrogen ion transport, chaperone, cilium, flagellum, and cell projection. Flexural properties of recycled ABS/recycled carbon fiber fabric composites

The reuse of solid waste is a practice that could reduce the disposal of high-value materials in the environment and also promote the circular economy. The recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment and carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers wastes can be an alternative to recover materials with good properties (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene and carbon fibers, respectively) and insert them into a new production cycle. In this context, the objective of this study was to develop a composite using a recycled polymer as a matrix (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) reinforced with recycled carbon fiber fabric and; to evaluate the flexural properties of the materials. The composites were molded by the hot compression method and the bending tests followed the ASTM D790-17 standard. The results showed that the addition of the carbon fiber fabric promoted an increase of up to 13% in the flexural strength of the composite containing a layer of recycled carbon fiber fabric. Thus, remanufacturing can be an alternative to reusing recycled materials that have good mechanical properties and high added value to be used in other applications.

Studies of the reproductive functional morphology of chelonians are important to understand the reproductive physiology, anatomy, and endocrinology of these species. However, data on the reproduction of this group have been difficult to obtain because of their cryptic habits and as a result the consequent inefficiency of conventional field methods in detecting individuals in the wild. In this study, we obtained reproductive organs from 347 adult female yellow-footed tortoises ( Chelonoidis denticulatus ), one of the most hunted and traded land vertebrates in South America, donated by local sellers in a wild meat market in the Peruvian amazon. We described the species’ reproductive cycle and the influence of climatic factors on reproductive performance. Of the sampled females, 116 (33.4%) were gravid and 231 (66.6%) were non-gravid, including 215 vitellogenic (62.0%) and 16 non-vitellogenic (4.6%). The mean number of ovarian follicles per female declined from 28.5 (<10 mm diameter), to 7.1 follicles (20–40 mm) to 3.2 follicles> 40 mm. Gravid females had in average 3.7 shelled eggs in the oviduct, with a mean egg diameter of 53.7 mm. The estimated annual reproductive potential in gravid females was 5.1 eggs per clutch, ranging from one to 22 eggs. There was a strong positive relationship between the diameter of shelled eggs and the straight carapace length of gravid females. The final phase of the folicular growth, the most demanding energetic process in chelonian reproduction, correlated with annual rainfall peak, while oviposition was estimated to occur in the dry season. The yellow-footed tortoise should be considered an opportunistic seasonal breeder, though capable of reproducing throughout the year. Reproductive yields are linked to climatic events that influence food availability in the environment.
