The difference of level CO2 emissions from the transportation sector between weekdays and weekend days on the City Centre of Pemalang

The high growth of human activity potentially increases the number of vehicles and the use of fossil fuels that contribute the increase of CO2 emissions in atmosphere. Controlling CO2 emission that causes greenhouse effect becomes the main agenda of Indonesian Government. The first step control CO2 emissions is by measuring the level of CO2 emissions, especially CO2 emissions from fossil fuel consumption in the transport sector. This research aims to assess the level of CO2 emissions from transportation sector on the main roads in the city centre of Pemalang both in weekdays and weekend days. The methods applied to calculate CO2 emissions using Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 2006 method. For this, a survey on the number of vehicles passing through the main roads using hand tally counter is firstly done. The results, CO2 emissions in working day, i.e. 49,006.95 tons/year compared to weekend i.e. 38,865.50 tons/year.

The increase in human population as well as area development in Salatiga Groundwater Basin, Central Java Province, will increase the potency of groundwater contamination in that area. Groundwater quality, especially the shallow groundwater, is very vulnerable to the contamination from industrial waste, fertilizer/agricultural waste, and domestic waste. The first step in the conservation of groundwater quality is by conducting the mapping of the groundwater vulnerability zonation against the contamination. The result of this research was groundwater vulnerability map which showed the areas vulnerable to the groundwater contamination. In this study, groundwater vulnerability map was assessed based on the DRASTIC Method and was processed spatially using Geographic Information System. The DRASTIC method is used to assess the level of groundwater vulnerability based on weighting on seven parameters, which are: depth to the water table (D), recharge (R), aquifer material (A), soil media (S), topography (T), impact of vadose zone (I), and hydraulic conductivity (C). The higher the DRASTIC Index will result in the higher vulnerability level of groundwater contamination in that area. The DRASTIC Indexes in the researched area were 85 – 100 (low vulnerability level), 101 -120 (low to moderate vulnerability level), 121 – 140 (moderate vulnerability level), 141 – 150, (moderate to high vulnerability level), and 151 – 159 (high vulnerability level). The output of this study can be used by local authority as a tool for consideration to arrange the policy for sustainable area development, especially the development in an area affecting the quality of Salatiga Groundwater Basin.

Temperature Effect Investigation toward Peat Surface CO2 Emissions by Planting Leguminous Cover Crops in Oil Palm Plantations in West Kalimantan

The aim of this research was to know the impact of planting leguminous cover crops （LCCs） of Mucuna bracteata and Calopogonium mucunoides in oil palm plantation on peatland on reducing CO2 emissions. Atmosphere temperature, peat surface temperature, in-closed chamber temperature and peat surface CO2 fluxes were monitored on two adjacent experimental plots. The first experimental plot was on the newly opened peat surface （NOPS） and another was on the eight years planted oil palm land （EPOL）. The closed chamber techniques adopted from International Atomic Energy Agency （IAEA）（1993） were implemented to trap CO2 emissions emitted from 24 treatment plots at the 1st, 3rd and 6th months observations. Average CO2 fluxes observed on no LCCs plots in the NOPS site were 61.25 ± 8.98, 33.76 ± 2.92 and 33.75 ± 3.45 g/m2.h, while in the EPOL site were 55.38 ± 15.95, 29.90 ± 5.32 and 27.70 ± 4.62 g/mLh at the 1st, 3rd and 6th months monitoring, respectively. Average CO2 fluxes observed on the planted M. bracteata plots in the NOPS site were 68.2 ± 24.5, 12.88 ± 3.70 and 10.40 ± 1.28 g/m2.h, whereas in the EPOL site were 54.04 ± 6.70, 11.45 ± 2.00 and 9.33 ± 3.49 g/m2.h at the 1st, 3rd and 6th months monitoring, respectively. Average CO2 flux observed on the planted C. mucunoides plots in the NOPS site were 66.5 ± 23.7, 15.41 ± 1.51 and 9.74 ± 2.55 g/m2.h, while in the EPOL site were 47.00 ± 5.00, 9.34 ± 1.23 and 10.52 ± 4.80 g/m2.h at the 1st, 3rd and 6th months, respectively. P-value for the experimental sites was 0.008 （〈 0.05）, indicating the significant difference in the level of CO2 fluxes between the sites. P-value for the treatments in the experimental plots was 0.000 （〈 0.05）, indicating markedly different level of CO2 fluxes among treatments. Background: The causes for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) are diverse and the incidence trends of IMIDs from specific causes are rarely studied. The study aims to investigate the pattern and trend of IMIDs from 1990 to 2019. Methods: We collected detailed information on six major causes of IMIDs, including asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis, between 1990 and 2019, derived from the Global Burden of Disease study in 2019. The average annual percent change (AAPC) in number of incidents and age standardized incidence rate (ASR) on IMIDs, by sex, age, region, and causes, were calculated to quantify the temporal trends. Findings: In 2019, rheumatoid arthritis, atopic dermatitis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease accounted 1.59%, 36.17%, 54.71%, 0.09%, 6.84%, 0.60% of overall new IMIDs cases, respectively. The ASR of IMIDs showed substantial regional and global variation with the highest in High SDI region, High-income North America, and United States of America. Throughout human lifespan, the age distribution of incident cases from six IMIDs was quite different. Globally, incident cases of IMIDs increased with an AAPC of 0.68 and the ASR decreased with an AAPC of −0.34 from 1990 to 2019. The incident cases increased across six IMIDs, the ASR of rheumatoid arthritis increased (0.21, 95% CI 0.18, 0.25), while the ASR of asthma (AAPC = −0.41), inflammatory bowel disease (AAPC = −0.72), multiple sclerosis (AAPC = −0.26), psoriasis (AAPC = −0.77), and atopic dermatitis (AAPC = −0.15) decreased. The ASR of overall and six individual IMID increased with SDI at regional and global level. Countries with higher ASR in 1990 experienced a more rapid decrease in ASR. Interpretation: The incidence patterns of IMIDs varied considerably across the world. This study was conducted to determine the potential of office paper waste and rice husk as acoustic cell material as an absorbent noise. The acoustic cell material combines waste paper and rice husk are given a binder of PVA (polyvinyl acetate). Studies conducted with specimens of making destroy paper then mixed with rice husk. Previous chemically treated rice husks with alkali method governed by variations immersion 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 hours, the purpose of this treatment is to remove lignin and determine the effect on noise absorption. Variations in the composition of office paper (OP) : rice husk (RH) are 90:10, 85:15, 80:20, while the variation is the addition of PVA binder 6, 8, and 10% of the total weight of the OP + RH. Variations compaction is 3:4, 4:4, and 5:4, and the specimen thickness variation is 1, 1.5, 2 cm. 2 microphone impedance test is based on ASTM E1050 used for noise absorption test specimens. Impedance test showed that the optimal noise absorption occurs in specimens composition; OP:RH (80:20), PVA 6 %, rice husk without alkali treatment (0 hours), 3:4 compaction, and specimen thickness 2 cm. The noise absorption coefficient (α) is optimal from 0.3 to 0.4.

Co-processing of grinding sludge as alternative raw material in portland cement clinker production

This research aimed to investigate the potential of partial substitution of cement raw meal with grinding sludge as an alternative raw material in Portland cement clinker production. Cement raw mixtures with up to 3% raw mix replacement were put through a burning process in a high-temperature furnace. One reference and three modified mixtures, containing 1, 2 and 3% dry weight of grinding sludge were examined. XRF analysis results showed that CaO, SiO2, A12O3 and Fe2O3 in ordinary cement raw meal were within typical concentration ranges. The grinding sludge had high concentrations of iron, cadmium, chromium and nickel and was consequently classified as a hazardous waste. High Fe2O3 made the grinding sludge a good candidate for alternative raw material. Higher replacement of grinding sludge was found to improve burnability, reduce formation of major of cement compositions (dicalcium silicate, C2S and tricalcium aluminate, C3A), lower in silica and alumina ratios, but promote the formation of tricalcium silicate (C3S) and tetracalcium aluminateferrite (C4AF). Microstructural analysis of the synthesized Portland clinker revealed that the grinding sludge promoted formation of secondary C2S as well as caused color change of C3S. Thai regulatory leaching procedure was performed on the synthesized clinker and mortar samples. The concentrations of heavy metals in the leachate were found below the limits. Moreover, the maximum substitution of grinding sludge was found to be 2% of grinding sludge. Thus, this sludge has potential applications as an alternative raw material in cement production. © 2010 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
