Soil erosion is one of the most serious degradation problems in the world, so in Indonesia. The average level of global soil erosion ranges from 12-15 Ton/ha/yr, or it can be said that there is a surface soil loss of 0.90-0.95 mm of land. While the watershed in Indonesia is 458 in which 60 are critically heavy, 222 critical and 176 potentially critical. An action is needed to reduce erosion rates which is one of the causes of damage to the watershed. Soil erosion modeling is a method used in estimating the amount of soil erosion that occurs in an area. Various models of soil erosion are developed with the aim of producing precise erosion estimates. This study will discuss soil erosion modeling (definition, classification of models and proceed) and a review of erosion assessment models that are widely used in Indonesia (USLE, MUSLE, RUSLE, and SWAT). By knowing each erosion estimation model, hope can be able to choose the right model according to the study to be conducted. © The Authors, published by EDP sciences, 2019.

Evaluation of the characteristics of recycled aggregates produced in campinas-SP/Brazil

To use the aggregate generated by recycling plants in the production of concrete, it is essential to know its characteristics. This paper aims to evaluate samples of recycled aggregates, both small and large, produced at two recycling plants located in the city of Campinas, SP, Brazil, comparing the results with parameters established by NBR 15116:2004 and with the characteristics of the natural aggregates used in the production of concrete. For the development of the study, samples of aggregates, small and large, both natural and recycled were collected, which had their characteristics determined and evaluated according to the specifications of NBRs 7211:2009 and 15116:2004. The results indicate that even the recycled aggregates showing some variability throughout the tests and unfulfilled with some normative specifications, it is concluded that their use in concrete is close to becoming feasible. It was verified that simple corrections in the recycling plants or additions of a certain amount of natural aggregate, would probably already be enough for the total standardization of the recycled aggregate. Comparing the recycled aggregates with the natural ones it was verified that the recycled ones present a higher index of fines and mainly greater absorption of water, which reflects in smaller values of specific mass, apparent specific mass and crushing resistance. However, these are not limiting factors in the use of recycled materials in concretes without structural function, since they will not be so mechanically required. © 2020 WITPress. The mangrove ecosystem is one of the unique and distinctive ecosystems because it is a compelling natural resource. However, in the current era, many people are greedy, resulting in the conversion of mangrove land, which causes a decrease in the area of the mangrove ecosystem. This study aims to determine changes in the extent of the mangrove ecosystem in Karimunjawa National Park and the appropriate rehabilitation efforts there. The method used in this research is a case study with descriptive analysis. Data collection techniques used literature studies from several related research sources whose research locations were in the Karimunjawa National Park. The collected data were then analyzed using the SWOT method. The main priority to be chosen as the primary strategic plan to repair damage and rehabilitate mangroves in Karimunjawa National Park is to establish synergistic cooperation between the implementation of government programs and the wishes of the local community through revitalizing coastal areas due to abrasion by replanting mangrove trees. This alternative strategy is a Strength-Threats (ST) strategy, where strength is maximized to overcome threats.

The widespread use of synthetic plastics causes environmental issues because of their nondegradability. In this study, biocomposite from Kluwih seed starch were incorporated with carrageenan and cellulose nanofiber (CNF) to improve their mechanical properties. CNFs were prepared using the TEMPO method with ultrasonication. The variables included starch (1, 1.5, 2 g), carrageenan (3, 4.5, 6 g), and CNF (0.006, 0.12, 0.18 g). The mechanical properties of the biocomposite were optimized using RSM. Zeta potential analysis confirmed the stability of CNFs, and XRD and FTIR analyses revealed improved crystallinity and functional groups. The tensile strength of the biocomposites was 12.08 kgf/mm², which is suitable for sustainable packaging applications. © 2025

One of the negative impacts of settlements and urbanization is the decline in groundwater quality. In maintaining the sustainability of groundwater for a long period of time, a special study is needed, which can be done by examining groundwater vulnerability. The alluvial plain of Semarang City currently faces environmental problems such as degradation of groundwater quality which is the negative impact of the settlement, The purpose of this study was to examine groundwater vulnerability in the alluvial plain area of Semarang City. The Susceptibility Index method is using a spatial analysis tool based on rating and weighting value of some parameters, i.e. Depth of groundwater, recharge, aquifer media, slope, and land use. The result of this research reveals that about 41.3% area is covered under the high vulnerable zone, 50.3% area under moderately vulnerable zone and 8.4% area under the low vulnerable zone. 7 sub districts namely Tugu, Semarang Barat, Semarang Utara, Semarang Timur, Gayamsari, Pedurungan and Genuk, most of which are in the high vulnerability zone. Whereas the Ngaliyan, Semarang Selatan, Semarang Tengah, Candisari, and Gajah Mungkur, which are mostly in the low to moderate vulnerability zones. © The Authors, published by EDP sciences, 2019.

The proliferation of heavy metal contamination, namely, lead and copper, has emerged as a pervasive worldwide peril to human existence. One potential solution for addressing this issue is the utilization of nanoparticle adsorption, specifically for nickel oxide nanoparticles. However, to promote environmental sustainability, scholarly studies have identified green synthesis as a prospective methodology. The process of cadmium phytoremediation, although offering a potential remedy for heavy metal contamination, gives rise to apprehensions surrounding the proper disposal of cadmium hyperaccumulator plant biomass. Hence, it is imperative to establish suitable strategies for the disposition or usage of this biomass. The utilization of hyperaccumulator extracts for the eco-friendly production of nickel oxide nanoparticles remains unexplored in the current literature. The main aim of this research is to explore the possible application of Lactuca sativa L. as a plant species with the ability to accumulate high levels of cadmium. The study also seeks to examine the efficacy of utilizing these plants in the fabrication of nickel oxide nanoparticles and evaluate their capacity to absorb lead and copper ions. The characterization of nickel oxide nanoparticles is conducted through a range of techniques, encompassing scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry. The present work achieved successful utilization of Lactuca sativa L. extract for the manufacture of nickel oxide nanoparticles, which showed notable efficacy as an adsorbent for lead and copper. The synthesis of nickel oxide nanoparticles using an extract from Lactuca sativa L. has demonstrated the viability of utilizing hyperaccumulator biomass in the phytoremediation of cadmium. Water and good sanitation are essential elements to support human health. Unfortunately, the fulfillment of clean water and sanitation needs has not been fully implemented in several parts of the world. Sanitation development in Indonesia refers to the Sustainable Development Goals, which in 2030 are targeted to ensure the availability and sustainable management of clean water and sanitation for all communities. The problem in this study is to determine community participation in its contribution to achieving SDGs (6) goals in the use of public toilet facilities built from local government budgets in a sustainable effort in the SANIMAS program in Bandung City West Java. The research results that have been carried out show that the use of shared toilet facilities requires participation from the community and the increasing number of residents in each urban area. Policies from the government can anticipate problems in the future, and there is a need for collaboration between the government, the private sector, and the community by paying attention to the environment both for the sustainability of water reserves from dug wells and the use of technology that can prevent river water pollution in the city, as well as the sustainability of the sanitation program for all public.

The potential and prospect of biomass as primary energy in Indonesia

Energy is one of the needs to support daily human activities. Without energy, various activities such as industry, health, and household will be disrupted. Total energy consumption in Indonesia in 2018 reached 875 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE), which was dominated by fuel oil. It illustrates that national energy consumption is still dominated by primary energy sources originating from fossil fuels. Various previous studies have suggested the environmental and health impacts of air pollution from burning fossil fuels. This article will briefly discuss biomass as a primary energy source based on the results of literature studies. The discussion section will discuss the environmental impacts of biomass utilization based on several scientific studies and the form of biomass utilization in Indonesia that has been carried out. As a follow-up to several scientific facts, it is necessary to mix other primary energy from new and renewable energy sources.

Animal feed production soared due to the increasing demand for fresh meat and fish. The high cost of animal feed production causes animal feed producers to look for more economical and environmentally friendly alternatives. Microalgae have the potential to add nutrients to animal feed and aquaculture feed because they contain high-value biomolecules. Bioactive compounds containing microalgae such as protein, carbohydrates, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), vitamins, and other compounds have been shown to improve feed efficiency and the quality of animal products. The contribution of microalgae to meet nutritional needs in animal feed/aquaculture is present in this review. The metabolism of microalgae produced during photosynthetic activity depends on natural conditions such as the location of cultivation, the possibility of contaminants in the culture, and their physiological response to biotic and abiotic factors, such as the availability of light intensity, temperature, pH, nutrients, and growth phase. The quality of microalgae biomass certainly affects the quality of animal feed. From various studies that have been carried out, several parameters can affect the efficiency and quality of animal products, including the amount of microalgae biomass added to the feed, the age of the animal, and the duration of feeding the animal.

The microalgae industry produces and processes microalgae such as Arthrospira platensis, Chlorella Vulgaris, and Haematococcus Pluvialis as raw materials. The product of the microalgae industry in Indonesia consists of raw materials, extract products, and retail products. The sales activity tends to rise, impacting the financial conditions of the industry in good condition. The potential of this business field is vast with open market demand so that the continuity of production and marketing of diversified products is still guaranteed. Problems and needs facing the Microalgae industry in Indonesia are the whole processes from upstream to downstream in the microalgae industry still manual. It replaced conventional methods with more efficient advanced green technologies that offer greater product quantity and low environmental impact. Literature reviews, observations in the industry, and interviews to evaluate development strategies to help the microalgae industry solves the problems in cultivation, drying techniques, standard fulfillment, and marketing by applying more efficient technology. Based on the analysis of conditions and opportunities, there are some critical aspects of microalgae industry development, namely the creation of an online monitoring application system of production pools that can be implemented in the field according to standards; construction design of encapsulation include spray drying. Moreover, a circular economy fulfills food safety standards such as halal certification, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point, and Good Manufacturing Practice standards. Additionally, improvement of qualifications and competencies of reliable marketing personnel in the manufacture of marketing tools.
