Sustainable and integrated industrial wastewater treatment as a base of green industry 4.0

With the fast development of the global economy and population, there has been an increase in the amount of wastewater and industrial effluents being discharged into rivers and lakes, resulting in deterioration of water quality and a reduction in the availability of freshwater resources. A comprehensive discussion of the topic of Industrial Wastewater Treatment Integrated for Sustainable Green Industry 4.0, including the difficulties and possible solutions that may be encountered along the way, is provided in this article. According to the results of this study, industrial wastewater treatment that uses online/real-time water for quality monitoring and control has shown great promise in terms of quality monitoring and control when utilizing online/real-time water. Implementing such a system in industrial wastewater treatment may offer an early warning system for poor treatment while increasing the quantity and quality of the end product, both of which are desired outcomes.

The herbal, tofu and fertilizer industries contribute considerable waste to the environment. The waste contains COD and organic substances which should be reduced before it is discharged to the environmental body. One of methods is by using Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) degradation method. The process of AOPs in this study used a combination of UV irradiation and ozone to produce hydroxyl radicals. This study was aimed to investigate the degradation of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) by using AOP techniques and to evaluate the treated waste for microalgae growth. This research consists of two steps: (1) the initial COD degradation using UV-Ozon. (2) utilization of the treated waste for microalgae cultivation by combining a mixed nutrient of waste and 10 mg/L TSP, 10 mg/L Urea, 80mg/L NaHCO3. The results showed that the COD degraded by UV/Ozone follows the first order equation by k value of 0.082/day, 0.223/day and 0.436/day for tofu, herbal and fertilizer waste respectively. The growth rate of Spirulina cultivated in waste medium was in comparable with the one cultivated in control medium. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

Economic Value of Water Yields on Critical Land Conservation in Kuranji Watershed

The Kuranji watershed has a complex problem which cannot be studied with a single scientific approach. In addition to an ecological approach it is also necessary to consider social and economic influences. Conserving areas that have a negative impact on watersheds, such as critical lands, is one of the efforts made to conserve watersheds will reducing costs and speeding up the recovery. The aim of this research is to estimate the economic value of the water yield of the Kuranji watershed on land conservation efforts. To get the economic value of water yield in the watershed, the non-market price approach method is used with the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). The results showed that there were 356.10 ha of critical land in the Kuranji watershed that could be conserved. The value of water yield in existing land use conditions is greater than water yield in land use conditions influenced by conservation efforts. In this study, it was determined that the estimated economic value of water yield in the Kuranji watershed is 272 IDR/m3 of water. This is supported with a conservation value of 80% of critical land.

A settlement is an important requirement for humans. Increasing the number of residents has encouraged additional needs for residential land while the amount of land has not increased. It is necessary to analyze the suitability of residential land to create decent and safe settlements from disasters. This study analyzes the suitability of residential land in the West Palu District based on the criteria of terrain slope, distance to the road network, the distance of educational facilities, the distance of health facilities, distance of trade facilities, and disaster vulnerability. The results of this study obtained a percentage of the area for unsuitability class 28.84%, marginally suitable 18.44%, suitable 34.93%, and more suitable 17.79%. © The Authors, published by EDP sciences, 2019.

This study aims to identify the potential of dairy cattle waste to become biogas in Jetak Village as a solution in dealing with environmental problems. In this study using primary data obtained from 72 respondents through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a qualitative descriptive approach and an analysis of conversion of dairy cattle dung into methane gas production. The results showed that the potential for renewable energy from dairy cattle waste to biogas was 4,424 kg/day or equivalent to 35.35 m3/kg with a methane content of 24.75 m3. The utilization of dairy cattle waste in Jetak Village into compost/organic fertilizer has not been done by the community due to a lack of community knowledge and the motivation of people who are still low in processing livestock waste into other products. © The Authors, published by EDP sciences, 2019.

The community-based solid waste management system in Administrative Village of Surau Gadang is planned based on SNI-20-3242-2008, with a design period of 8 years (2011-2018). The service level is planned to reach 100%. The total solid waste generation is 64.18 m3/d (organic 60.81 m3/d, inorganic is 0.75 m3/d, while other waste is 2.61 m3/d). The sorting process is according to the type of waste. Residential waste collection uses motorized trash tricycles to TPST (integrated waste treatment plant) and non-residential uses pickup cars to TPS (temporary disposal site). Processing carried out at the source is composting the Takakura method, while in TPST is composting the Bokhasi method, sorting other waste for sale, recycling and making handicrafts. The residue from the remaining processing which was disposed to TPS was 18.43%. The institution formed is a representative of all RW (citizens association). Regulation based on Law No.18 of 2008. The investment in making TPST and its supplementary facilities for eight years is Rp.1,322,000,000, with operational and maintenance costs of Rp.26,678,067/month. The profit obtained is Rp.102,117,284 / month. Community participation can be seen from involvement in technical and non-technical aspects. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Dynamic processes on networks, be it information transfer in the Internet, contagious spreading in a social network, or neural signaling, take place along shortest or nearly shortest paths. Unfortunately, our maps of most large networks are substantially incomplete due to either the highly dynamic nature of networks, or high cost of network measurements, or both, rendering traditional path finding methods inefficient. We find that shortest paths in large real networks, such as the network of protein-protein interactions (PPI) and the Internet at the autonomous system (AS) level, are not random but are organized according to latent-geometric rules. If nodes of these networks are mapped to points in latent hyperbolic spaces, shortest paths in them align along geodesic curves connecting endpoint nodes. We find that this alignment is sufficiently strong to allow for the identification of shortest path nodes even in the case of substantially incomplete networks. We demonstrate the utility of latent-geometric path finding in problems of cellular pathway reconstruction and communication security. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel produced by chemical reaction between vegetable oil or animal fat with alcohol and catalyst. The preliminary treatment in extraction of biodiesel feedstock is an important process to obtain maximum yield of crude oil. This study aims to find optimal preliminary treatment on extraction of Kemiri Sunan seed in order to produce crude oil with maximum yield and quality. The research investigated the effects of screw press machine rotation and duration of steaming process. Three levels of duration of steaming used were 30, 60 and 90 minutes. Observations of crude oil yield, moisture content, free fatty acid content, kinematic viscosity, density and color were done. The result suggested that the rotation of screw press machine affected the crude oil yield. The duration of steaming process affected the oil yield, free fatty acid content, kinematic viscosity, density and color. The best oil yield result of 70.3% was obtained from the combination of heating duration of 60' and screw rotation of 25 RPM. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Carbon source as a template derived from nypa leaf powder enable to strengthen the silica matrix applied for water desalination. This research aims to synthesize silica-nypa membrane, characterize xerogel silica-nypa leaf and investigate the performance of silica-nypa membrane with various concentration of nypa as a carbon template to treat artificial sea water. The concentrations of nypa leaf as a carbon template are 0.1; 0.5 and 2.5 %wt with a calcination temperature of 350 °C through a rapid thermal processing (RTP) technique. Xerogel characterization using FTIR was employed to analyze a spectrum and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to investigate the membrane morphology. The result shows that the performance of silica-nypa membrane with water fluxes of 2.1915; 2.0163 and 1.1067 kg.m−2. h−1 (for 0.1; 0.5 and 2.5 %wt. carbon template derived from nypa leaf), and the salt rejection value for all concentrations.

Supply of sustainable clean water is an activity that must be carried out towards smart cities. Nevertheless, the availability of water is decreasing both in quality and quantity. Wastewater including domestic wastewater is a potential source that can be reused as clean water supply dealing with water scarcity. This is due to domestic wastewater is produced continuously in large amount. In addition, reuse can reduce the total cost of handling wastewater. One modern technology that can be used for domestic wastewater treatment is membrane technology. Characteristics, various types, advantages, disadvantages, and challenges of membrane technology for domestic wastewater were discussed. This paper presents a review of domestic wastewater reuse by using membrane technology. More specifically this paper discusses domestic wastewater. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.
