Bus lanes are frequently recommended in the literature to enhance transit efficiency. However, the improvements reported by transport agencies following bus-only lane interventions often lack rigorous evaluation using causal inference methods. This gap raises concerns about potential biases and the omission of relevant covariates that could influence the outcomes. Addressing these issues is crucial, particularly in understanding both the direct and indirect effects of bus lanes on operational indicators like speed and reliability, given the cyclic relationship between transit level of service and ridership. This paper therefore investigates the causal relationships between the determinants of public transport operations and examines how these factors are altered by bus lanes. We aim to estimate the direct and indirect causal effects of such interventions using a comprehensive approach that begins with the creation of a mental map outlining the key determinants affecting public transport demand and performance. This is followed by the development of a causal diagram to estimate the impact of bus lane interventions. To demonstrate the practical application of this approach, we conducted a case study assessing bus lane interventions in the transit corridors of Fortaleza, Brazil, using observational data from the system's operation. Our findings contribute methodologically and practically by offering transport planners and practitioners a framework for assessing bus lanes effects on bus speed and reliability, as well as understanding how these lanes can indirectly influence these outcomes through increased ridership, stressing the importance of rigorous policy evaluation in public transport planning. © 2024, The Authors. The Last Planner® System (LPS) of Production Control is widely acknowledged as fit to tackle the complexity of construction projects. However, the implications of complexity in the implementation of LPS itself have not been investigated. Those implications are investigated in this paper by exploring the gap between production planning and control-as-imagined and as-done at the look-ahead level. For that purpose, a case study was conducted in the refurbishment of a department store in which the LPS was implemented. Data collection involved document analysis, participant observation at the look-ahead and short-term planning meetings, and unstructured interviews. The Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) was used for modeling variability and interactions between the managerial functions at the look-ahead planning level. Results indicated several differences between production planning and control-as-imagined and as-done, which reflect hidden activities required for the removal of constraints. These activities took time and effort from managers and therefore they can partly explain why the LPS was not strictly followed as-imagined in theory. © Prof. Luis F. Alarcón and Assoc. Landslides are among the natural disasters that most affect the population in Brazil and in the world, as they are responsible for numerous human, economic, social and environmental losses. High-resolution aerial and satellite imagery, that contribute to identify this type of event are valuable sources of information, even if they are not the only ones. Machine learning (ML) techniques are often adopted to identify relevant patterns, as high performance computing and data visualization are widely and successfully applied to natural disaster-related data, particularly for landslides. The greater the volume of data processed during machine learning, the better the accuracy of the results obtained. Among other reasons, Big Data (BD) has stood out for its ability to integrate and generate a large volume of data from different sources and in different formats. The use of BD concepts and techniques has become common in several areas of knowledge, in particular for the storage and analysis of data related to natural accidents and, thus, helping to improve decision making as well as prevention of disasters. With the emergence of the BD, it came the challenge of aligning decision-making processes, so that there is no shortage of information or useless data for decision makers. In the case of Brazil and considering, especially, applications to landslide data, there is a lack of articles dealing with the subject. The aim of this study is to investigate the main features used on machine learning techniques, to map the literature, thus pointing out new routes and opportunities in the field. In the systematic review, the eligibility criteria adopted are studies published in the last 4 years (from January 2015 to December 2019), in English, at national and international levels, including publications in scientific events and relevant journals, through databases such as Scopus and Web of Science. The rotation of a ship’s propeller can accelerate the water flow around it,which puts pressure on seabed *** pressure on the seabed can significantly trigger erosion and sedimentation of coastal *** the impact that can be caused,the ship’s propeller rotation limit needs to be determined to avoid damage to the aquatic *** research determines the threshold of ship propeller rotation based on the water flow velocity *** has been carried out at the Hydrodynamics Laboratory on several variations of propeller rotation R_(rmp)(r/min)and water depth using empirical approaches,numerical simulations,and scale model *** based on general standard criteria for erosion and sedimentation shows that a propeller with a diameter(D_(p))of 1.5 m is safe for propeller rotation at 25 r/min at all water ***,the propeller rotation of 75 r/min is safe for a distance between the propeller axis and the bottom of the water equal to D_(p).Meanwhile,rotation at 120 r/min is safe at a minimum distance of 1.5 D_(p),and 230 r/min is safe for a minimum distance of 2.0 D_(p).The propeller rotation threshold criteria are essential to determining the new under-keel clearance for environmentally friendly ship *** values vary based on seabed particle type and water depth.

Construction projects are known to be complex, due to being subject to uncertainty and variability. The use of buffers to protect them from the detrimental impact of variability has been well-researched. A key managerial choice is not whether or not to buffer variability, but rather how to define the necessary combination of buffers. Slack is a concept related to buffers but has been used in the literature to describe a broader range of strategies for coping with complexity. It allows an organisation to adapt to internal pressures for adjustment or to external pressures for change in policy. This paper aims to further develop the concept of slack and to unveil its relationships with other concepts and ideas that are partly overlapping such as buffers, resilience, robustness, flexibility, and redundancy. A concept map was devised in order to articulate the nature of the slack concept. Construction projects are exposed to a wide diversity of variabilities, which suggests the existence of a correspondent wide diversity of variability coping mechanisms, whether they are designed or not. This wide diversity is not properly accounted for by the concept of buffer, as it neglects the social and informal dimensions of coping with variability. The use of the concept of slack is proposed as an alternative. A companion IGLC 29 paper defines slack and discusses its relationships with proxy concepts such as flexibility and resilience. This paper presents nine practical examples of slack in managerial processes and topics that are of interest for the lean construction community. These examples suggest that, while slack has been concealed by the lack of theorization and consistent terminology, it is ubiquitous in lean construction. Design mixed formula of hot mix asphalt mixture very thin overlay using crumb rubber

One of the technologies expected to improve the quality of flexible pavement is to use a modified asphalt mixture of Crumb Rubber (CR). The material can be used as a very thin added layer which is then called Very Thin Overlay Modified Crumb Rubber (VTO Mod-CR) and the functions as a leveling layer. This asphalt mixture is expected to have high durability and increase the age service life of flexible pavement. The aim of this study was to analyze the design mix formula (DMF) and the durability of the asphalt mixture. This research carried out variations of asphalt content i.e. 6.0%, 6.5%, 7.0%, 7.5% and 8.0% with each variation of 3 specimens for Marshall Test. Based on the DMF analysis results obtained optimum asphalt content of 7.00%, while the properties of the mixture in the form of bulk density of 2.240, VIM of 3.77%, VMA of 18.15%, VFA of 79.23%, Stability of 1049 kg, Flow of 3.47 mm, Marshall Quotient of 251 kg / mm, Bitumen Film Thickness 16.08 µm. The results of the analysis of the mixture properties have met specifications General of Highways, so it can be used as a reference for AMP. The BFT value obtained meets the minimum specification specifications of 16 µm, this shows that the resistance to water and oxidation is higher, so the pavement becomes durable.

Aceh Government is trying to plan the integrated transportation system. Aceh Government has planned the construction of 6 Corridors of Trans Koetaradja Bus, some of them are Corridors II A and II B. The previous public transport cannot accommodate the transportation service needs of the route of Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport - city center - Ulee Lheue Crossing Port. However, currently, the Banda Aceh Trans Koetaradja Public Bus transportation is projected to be able to improve the services optimally. The purpose of this study is to assess the level of performance and to improve the quality of the service up to the customers' satisfaction expectations. The method of this research comprises the survey, which is sampling Kouto and distributing questionnaires and data analysis. The questionnaire distribution uses statistic test method and Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) through the SERVQUAL approach, namely: reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and physical evidence. The result of the study is that the current performance of the services of Trans Koetaradja public bus transportation is rated as good; the importance of the service regarding the customers' expectation is rated good; the quality of service provided to customers is rated 94.52%. The conclusion of this study is that there are several shortages of transportation performance, such as the timeliness of arrival, waiting time at bus stops, passenger assistance, and available seats.

The use of Lean Construction (LC) practices has gradually spread in the construction industry. Accordingly, mechanisms are necessary to evaluate their use so as to facilitate identifying strengths and weaknesses in the LC implementation process. This paper presents a protocol for assessing the use of LC practices, which has distinctive characteristics, such as: (a) assigning weighting factors to each practice, according to their degree of importance as attributed by the perceptions of seven experts;(b) establishing explicit conceptual links between each practice and lean principles, (c) selecting practices to be included in the protocol based on a systematic review of the LC literature;and (d) the use of multiple sources of evidence to carry out the assessment, which increases the credibility of the results. The protocol comprises 103 LC practices, distributed over 15 categories. This paper reports the application of the protocol in a residential building project, which allowed identifying its strengths and weaknesses.
