Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication can considerably improve the efficiency and safety of autonomous driving and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADASs). However, V2X communication can be considerably degraded in the presence of cyberattacks, such as radio jamming. Traditionally, beamforming techniques can be applied to increase the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR). This paper evaluates broadband beamforming in the mmWave spectrum against radio jamming in V2X communication. The exploitation of the mm Wave spectrum in 5G-V2X communication has a natural advantage against radio jamming. First, attenuation is stronger in the mmWave spectrum in the range of 40 GHz or higher than in the traditional 5.9 GHz. Second, to generate broadband radio jamming, the radio jammer requires much more complex hardware and energy consumption. Third, by using broadband beamforming, broadband radio jamming can be considerably attenuated, limiting the degradation of the spectrum by the radio jamming. According to our numerical results, gains of close to 30 dB SINR can be achieved. We propose a broad-band beamforming technique based on the canonical polyadic decomposition via generalized eigenvalue decomposition (CPD-GEVD). The CPD-GEVD broadband beamforming outperforms state-of-the-art beamforming algorithms in most V2X scenarios presented in this paper.

This paper introduces an approach for designing gain-scheduled dynamic output feedback controllers for continuous-time Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) systems. The aim is to improve transient response by incorporating both D-stability and H∞ criteria into the synthesis conditions. We achieve this by employing changes of variables and congruence transformations, which lead to new synthesis conditions expressed as linear matrix inequalities. Additional fine-tuned scalar parameters can be used to enhance further the controller performance in terms of less conservative H∞ guaranteed costs. To assess the effectiveness of our proposed synthesis procedure, we conduct computational experiments in the context of a microinverter-based distributed power generation system. These experiments take into account real-world operational characteristics, providing a comprehensive evaluation of our approach. The results demonstrate that the designed controller effectively ensures the desired closed-loop system behavior, even when dealing with state noise and discretization errors originating from digital implementation. © 2024 The Franklin Institute

It is well-known that educational games often suffer from a complete no-alignment between game narrative and educational goals. Whilst the last are tied to curricular specifications and, in many times, inspired in textbooks and conventional exercises, narratives are meant to lead the player/student to the flow state. However, in educational games, such a state only is reached trough the combination of both, which is barely obtained by most of them. In this sense this paper proposes a foundational set of good practices for Educational Game Design, aiming to serve as a conceptual framework to support game designers, content creators and teachers/professors in this intrinsically multidisciplinary task, which is to seamlessly integrate narrative elements with game mechanics, dynamics and learning goals. © 2019 IEEE.

Network Function Virtualization (NFV), as a promising paradigm, speeds up the service deployment by separating network functions from proprietary devices and deploying them on common servers in the form of software. Any service in NFV-enabled networks is achieved as a Service Function Chain (SFC) which consists of a series of ordered Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). However, migration of VNFs for more flexible services within a dynamic NFV-enabled network is a key challenge to be addressed. Current VNF migration studies mainly focus on single VNF migration decisions without considering the sharing and concurrent migration of VNF instances. In this paper, we assume that each deployed VNF is used by multiple SFCs and deal with the optimal placement for the contemporaneous migration of VNFs based on the actual network situation. We formalize the VNF migration and SFC reconfiguration problem as a mathematical model, which aims to minimize the VNF migration between nodes or the total number of core changes per node. The approach is a two-stage MILP based on optimal order to solve the reconfiguration. Extensive evaluation shows that the proposed approach can reduce the change in terms of location or number of cores per node in a 6-node and 14-node networks while ensuring network latency compared with the model without reconfiguration. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Big data applications, as well as the whole myriad of applications arisen through the evolution of the body of knowledge commonly known as Data Science brings new challenges to CS-related courses curricula. The demands imposed in CS-related courses by the recent development of data-oriented application makes that visualization skills became an important part of both undergraduate and graduate formation. In this sense, this paper presents a syllabus for a Knowledge Visualization course, adaptable to both undergraduate and graduate levels, which aims to contribute to systematize the competences, skills and attitudes regarding data, information and knowledge visualization that are expected to be developed by future professionals.

An application of neural networks to channel estimation of the ISDB-TB FBMC system

Due to the evolution of technology and the diffusion of digital television, many researchers are studying more efficient transmission and reception methods. This fact occurs because of the demand of transmitting videos with better quality using new standards such 8K SUPER Hi-VISION. In this scenario, modulation techniques such as Filter Bank Multi Carrier, associated with advanced coding and synchronization methods, are being applied, aiming to achieve the desired data rate to support ultra-high definition videos. Simultaneously, it is also important to investigate ways of channel estimation that enable a better reception of the transmitted signal. This task is not always trivial, depending on the characteristics of the channel. Thus, the use of artificial intelligence can contribute to estimate the channel frequency response, from the transmitted pilots. A classical algorithm called Back-propagation Training can be applied to find the channel equalizer coefficients, making possible the correct reception of TV signals. Therefore, this work presents a method of channel estimation that uses neural network techniques to obtain the channel response in the Brazilian Digital System Television, called ISDB-TB, using Filter Bank Multi Carrier. Background: Despite major advances in artificial intelligence (AI) research for healthcare, the deployment and adoption of AI technologies remain limited in clinical practice. In recent years, concerns have been raised about the clinical, technical, ethical and legal risks associated with healthcare AI. To increase adoption in the real world, it is essential that AI technologies are trusted and accepted by patients, clinicians, health organisations and authorities. This paper describes the FUTURE-AI framework as the first international consensus guideline for trustworthy AI in healthcare. Methods: The FUTURE-AI consortium was founded in 2021 and now comprises 117 interdisciplinary experts from 50 countries representing all continents, including AI scientists, clinical researchers, biomedical ethicists, and social scientists. Over a two-year period, the consortium established guiding principles and best practices for trustworthy and deployable AI through an iterative process comprising an in-depth literature review, a modified Delphi survey, and online consensus meetings. Findings: The FUTURE-AI framework was established based on six guiding principles for trustworthy AI in healthcare, i.e. Fairness, Universality, Traceability, Usability, Robustness and Explainability. Through consensus, a set of 30 best practices were defined, addressing technical, clinical, socio-ethical and legal dimensions of trustworthy AI. The recommendations cover the entire lifecycle of healthcare AI, from design, development and validation to regulation, deployment, and monitoring. Interpretation: FUTURE-AI is a structured, risk-informed framework which provides guidance for constructing healthcare AI tools that will be trusted, deployed and adopted in real-world clinical practice. Researchers are encouraged to take the recommendations into account in proof-of-concept stages to facilitate future translation towards clinical practice of healthcare AI. Undoubtedly, educational Games figure among the most exciting learning objects. Their features, which involve motivational issues, interaction, attractive graphics and ludic activities, would empower them to become perhaps the most effective type of educational resource available. However, research has shown that current educational games' impact are far from expected, due to a vary of factors that go from boring, inappropriate game design to the difficulty to adapt them to different educational contexts. The present paper discusses the application of openness principles to educational games development process. Open Educational Games would address many of the issues currently faced by conventional educational game. Since there are many challenges to overcome to achieve this goal, this work aims to discuss the main ones, presenting some perspectives for the present and future.
