Cloud architectures have become increasing common in the IT industry and academic circle. However, most cloud architectures only focus on availability but ignore economic effectiveness. Based on Eucalyptus, this paper proposes an effective way to balance high availability and economic profits. We designed a forecast mechanism using three new modules: the forecast module, adjustment module, and collection module. The forecast module uses a set of machine learning techniques to improve forecast accuracy. We carried out a comparative experiment and the experimental results prove the efficiency of the proposed forecast mechanism.

Condensation of two-phase flow inside a tube within sub-cooled coolant injected show a complicated phenomenon which affects both the pressure drops from the upstream to downstream and the void fraction distribution in tube. This phenomenon always appears in the T-junction which kind of structure could be found in nuclear power plants design. The investigation about injection to two-phase flow in this structure can help us predict the hydrodynamic phenomenon of condensation heat transfer. Distribution of the fluid temperature and heat transfer coefficient (HTC) due to fluid-fluid mixing and steam condensation had been considered to be a significant process which is included in the pressurized thermal shock (PTS) research. Previous researches had built the integral effect test to analysis the effect of thermal mixing. However, the practical condensate process in T-junction injected is too hard to be predict accurately, which is contributed to the structure, the geometric dimension, the mass flow rate between the main and branch pipe, the flow patterns, the void fraction of two-phase flow, temperature of flow, pressure, etc. We analyzed the process of cooling water injecting from the branch pipe into a horizontal main pipe, and also focus on the phenomena of water injection in steam or different flow patterns. We had set some thermo couples inserting to the tube to keep observing the temperature field inside. The initial conditions of the experiment about the flow pattern before the injection includes stratified flow, wavy flow, annular flow and dispersed flow. We also took the heat dissipation between the test facility and surround into consideration. The experiment is a separate effect test program which based on the phenomena about condensation in T-junction with 45° incidence injection and progressed on ordinary pressure.

Dynamic fault tree as a powerful analyzing tool is used to model systems having sequence- and function-dependent failure behaviors. The problem is how to quantify a complex dynamic fault tree where different dynamic gates coexist and are highly coupled. Existing analytical methods for analyzing dynamic fault trees are mainly Markov-based, inclusion-exclusion-based and sequential binary decision diagram-based approaches. Unfortunately, all these methods have their own shortcomings. As to the Markov-based method, it is frequently subjected to the problem of state-space explosion and only applicable for systems having components with exponential time-to-failure distributions. For the inclusion-exclusion-based method, it is often vulnerable to the problem of combinatorial explosion. As to the sequential binary decision diagram method, it cannot be directly applied to a complex dynamic fault tree where dynamic gates are highly coupled together, and its computational efficiency greatly depends on the chosen variable index. In this article, we put forward using an adapted K.D. Heidtmann algorithm to analyze the reliability of a complex dynamic fault tree. To improve the computational efficiency of our proposed method, products are ordered according to their lengths and compositions. To illustrate the applicability and advantages of the proposed method, a case study is analyzed. The results show the proposed method is reasonable and efficient. © 2015 Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

In the process of the wireless sensor network research, the issue on the energy consumption and coverage is an essential and critical one. According to the characteristic of the sensor nodes, it is homogeneous, and we proposed the k-degree coverage algorithm based on optimization nodes deployment. First, the algorithm gives the solving procedure of the maximum seamless coverage ratio, when the three-node joint coverage has been provided. Second, when the sensor nodes are covering the monitoring area, the algorithm gives the solving procedure of the expected coverage quality and the judgment methods of the coverage ratio, when the nodes are compared with the nearby ones. And when there is redundancy coverage in the given monitoring area, we have given the solving procedure of any sensor nodes that exist in the redundant nodes coverage. Finally, using the simulation experiment, the results of the coverage algorithm based on optimization nodes deployment are compared with other algorithms in terms of the coverage quality and the network lifetime, the performance indexes have enhanced to 13.36% and 12.92% on average. Thus, the effectiveness and viability of the coverage algorithm based on optimization nodes deployment have been proved.

A lattice Boltzmann model for thermal flows through porous media

In a three-distribution-function framework, a lattice Boltzmann model was proposed for thermal flows through porous media under local thermal non-equilibrium conditions, in which both viscous dissipation and compression work were considered. In this model, a density distribution function was used to simulate the flow field and two total energy distribution functions were employed to simulate temperature fields for both fluid and solid. Discrete equilibrium density and total energy distribution functions were obtained from Hermite expansions of the corresponding moment equations. Through Chapman-Enskog procedure, macroscopic governing equations could be recovered expediently from the present thermal lattice Boltzmann model. The proposed model was validated by numerical simulations of thermal Poiseuille flow in a planar porous channel and natural convection in a square porous cavity.

This paper presents a performance comparison study between the proposed continuous- and discontinuous-hybrid-PWM (C-HPWM, D-HPWM) based techniques used for neutral point clamped (NPC) 3-level inverter. The H-PWM strategy uses both the advantages of carrier and space vector based PWM strategies. The duty cycles are generated using the carrier based strategy to reduce the computational complexity of the system and redundant vector states are used to keep the two DC-link capacitor voltages balanced. Detailed comparison studies are carried out in Matlab/ Simulink® and PLECS to shows the conduction and switching loss distribution with change in modulation index for IGBT and their antiparallel diodes, NPC diode with both control strategies. A 54.0 kW surface PMSM is used for this simulation studies. Moreover, the total inverter loss and torque ripples are also compared. Detailed experimental performances are also carried out with a scaled down prototype with a 6.0 kW surface PMSM, NPC inverter and real time emulator Dspace, to show the capacitor voltage deviation with both control strategies. © 2015 IEEE.

With the explosive growth of data capacity, large enterprises increasingly rely on business information systems. A highly informational and data-centralized grid company that engages in high-frequency businesses will face major business failures, incalculable impacts and irreparable damages once data errors occur. The development of an effective high-availability information system has become a hot topic for grid companies. Based on the analysis of pioneer enterprises or businesses(mainly IT enterprises), this paper summarizes the development mode of gradual deployment, and further proposes an extended architecture suitable for large enterprises such as grid companies in order to provide references and suggestions for the gradual deployment of high-availability information systems.

The field of practical character recognition has seen great advances these years, owing the to proposition of effective newmethod and progress in computer hardware. However, lots of problems like precision and progressing speed remain to be solved. This paper proposes a useful practical optical character recognition method of both Chinese character and English character. Given a photo randomly taken, we pre-progress it to undo the influence of light and tilt. Then we separate each word to extract 8-direction chain-code feature of it. When faced with complex scene, the method we propose achieve relatively high precision and fast speed. © 2015 Taylor & Francis Group.
