In this paper the pinning consensus of multi-agent networks with arbitrary topology is investigated. Based on the properties of M-matrix, some criteria of pinning consensus are established for the continuous multi-agent network and the results show that the pinning consensus of the dynamical system depends on the smallest real part of the eigenvalue of the matrix which is composed of the Laplacian matrix of the multi-agent network and the pinning control gains. Meanwhile, the relevant work for the discrete-time system is studied and the corresponding criterion is also obtained. Particularly, the fundamental problem of pinning consensus, that is, what kind of node should be pinned, is investigated and the positive answers to this question are presented. Finally, the correctness of our theoretical findings is demonstrated by some numerical simulated examples.

A non-equilibrium model of multicomponent melt solidification has been developed in which a Stefan problem with two boundaries is solved numerically, the boundaries being between the solid phase and the two-phase transition zone and between the two-phase transition zone and the liquid phase. The two-phase zone is represented as a porous medium with variable porosity. The additional force resisting the melt flow due to porosity and introduced by analogy with Darcy's law is taken into account. Computer simulation has been performed of the experiment on Sn-20 wt.%Pb binary alloy solidification by the method of downward-directed crystallization along the gravity vector. The paper shows the results of a quasi two-dimensional benchmark experiment on horizontal (i.e., at the right angle to the gravity vector) directional solidification of a binary Sn-3 wt.%Pb alloy. The calculations were done using two crystallization models: the equilibrium model and the non-equilibrium one. It is shown that the non-equilibrium model gives a better description of the thermal field evolution and solute distribution caused by natural convection.

Electricity companies have traditionally seen customers only as consumers but with the introduction of new metering technology the situation is about to change. As customer participation increases with the development of the Smart Grid environment, new concerns about privacy arise. In this article we introduce an architecture offering a clear, information-centered bird's-eye overview to the Smart Grid environment for privacy analysis purposes. To do this, we first seek out commonalities in the environment by dividing the topic into smaller elements in order to gain deeper understanding and to form abstract and functional models. From these we form a reference architecture representing a real-world situation. Our approach permits identification of the use of private information in the environment without implementation-dependent issues. We also present the privacy issues related to the architecture. The implementation strategies can vary, and we conclude with a discussion of the effects of the varying approaches.

Content-based publish/subscribe systems allow subscribers to specify interests based on event contents, rather than pre-assigned event topics. Since most of existing publish/subscribe systems use FIFO (First In First Out) as its queue management mechanism, it may face network congestion coming from suddenly burst of huge amount of subscription messages as well as event notifications. To promote the ability to handle congestion challenge, we present a new queue management mechanism called queue reorganization algorithm. By taking advantage of similarities among concurrent subscriptions, queue reorganization algorithm can make covering subscriptions as proxies and remove unnecessary subscriptions at each broker, which in turn greatly reduces pressure from congested input queue. Detailed evaluations under various workloads show significant benefits of the optimizations in terms of input queue size and message routing cost.

Introduce the basic concept of best rational approximation and constructing procedure of the best rational approximation function in Laplace domain. By an illustrative example the design method of FOC based on best rational approximation is discussed. The performance comparison of transfer functions between the FOC obtained by best rational approximation method and conventional PID shows that it is effective to apply the method in design of FOC, which can guarantee maximum absolute error of amplitude frequency characteristic of approximation function in a given error tolerance.
