power supply failure will cause major social loss. Therefore, power supply systems have been required to be highly reliable. This research deals with a significant and effective method to decide the investment in a power system damage of the power supply on the society. In CMD2007 Korea, we proposed mean-variance approach to replacing unreliable units in a power system. This paper extends the method so as to solve a problem efficiently. In this research, we will propose the structural learning of a mutual connective neural network. The proposed method enables us to solve the problem defined in terms of mixed integer quadratic programming. In this research, an analysis is performed by using the concepts of the reliability and risks of units evaluated using a variance-covariance matrix and also the effect and expenses of replacement are measured. Mean-variance analysis is formulated as a mathematical programming with two objectives to minimize the risk and maximize the expected return. Finally, we employ a Boltzmann machine to solve the meanvariance analysis efficiently. The result of our method is exemplified using a power network system in Tokyo Metropolitan. By using this method, a more effective selection of results is obtained. In other words, the decision makers can select the expected investment rate and risk of each ward depending on the given total budget. For this reason, the effectiveness of the decision making process can be enhanced. ©2007 IEEE.

Within Semantic Web environments, ontologies have been adopted as their conceptual backbone. An important task for Web information integration and sharing is to resolve semantic conflicts because of semantic heterogeneity and information incompleteness. But it is rather difficult for ontology engineers to integrate Web information including semantic heterogeneity and conflicts. In this paper, a combined approach is proposed for detecting and handling semantic conflicts from ontology information. Using rule reasoning based on RDF model theory, we can automatically check where semantic conflicts probably exist, and further locate so called conflict points of ontology information. Then based on Bayesian network method, semantic conflicts can be controlled and avoided by computing semantic overlap and its posterior probabilities of concept nodes from conflict points. Users can issue semantic based query by interaction interface and achieve information sharing with conflicts and uncertainty.

Emotion plays an important role in human life, especially in affective human-computer interaction. Affective Computing and Artificial Psychology are new research fields that involve computer and emotions, they have the same key research aspect, affective modeling. To improve the existing affective models, this article constructs a novel intensity-based affective model that incorporates personality and some psychological factors. To simulate the transitional process of emotions better, some important psychological factors are considered in this affective model, such as activation threshold, emotion elicitors, emotion decay, emotion interactions and so on. Moreover, on the basis of the model, an emotional prediction system is designed and implemented. After volunteers' tests, the system got good effect.

An adaptive low complexity lossless segment(context) based color image compression method is. proposed by this paper. First, adaptive context based dividing for an image is conducted to find optimal fixed length codes that are used for storing relative values of every pixel in each segment of the image and the length for each segment by a modified greedy algorithm. Then a modified Huffman coding is applied for the result of the first compression. The complexity of the first compression for the developed method is 0(n). The developed method was tested by a typical set of natural images. For some type of images, the compression ratios are very high.

It is crucial for ontology engineers to compose these heterogeneous ontologies for effective and scalable interoperability among Web agents. In this paper, we propose a combination framework based on effective and scalable ontology interoperability for high-quality query answering. We also put forward a specifical process to substantiate our combination approach. The underlying theoretical and empirical analyses are exploited for ensuring effectiveness and correctness of the approach. Experimental results from our prototype system show that high-quality query results but sacrifice some of reasoning complexity. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.

Exploiting shared ontology with default information for web agents

When different agents communicate with each other, there needs to be some way to ensure that the meaning of what one agent embodies is accurately conveyed to another agent. It has been argued that ontologies play a key role in communication among different agents. However, in some situations, because there exist terminological heterogeneities and incompleteness of pieces of information among ontologies used by different agents, communication among agents will be very complex and difficult to tackle. In this paper, we proposed a solution to the problem for these situations. We used distributed description logic to model the mappings between ontologies used by different agents and further make a default extension to the DDL for default reasoning. Then, base on the default extension of the DDL model, a complete information query can be reduced to cheeking default satisfiability of the complex concept corresponding to the query. © 2006 SWPS.

The optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) problem of power systems is one of the mixed-integer nonlinear optimization problems. Genetic algorithms (GAs) are used to solve this kittle problem since it can search for a global optimum using multiple path and treat discrete problems naturally. However, premature convergence limits its application to real-time reactive power control. Mimicking the cataclysm of the evolution course of eco-systems, in which most species are extinct but very few survive, the cataclysm operator updates all individuals randomly except for the current optimum after tens of generations. With some other improving measures, cataclysmic genetic algorithm (CGA) can therefore enhance population diversity and overcome the insufficiency of GAs. The numerical test based on IEEE 118-bus system comparing with an interior-point algorithm is presented and demonstrate the proposed CGA can obtain better results.

The authors present the results of analyses about transient stability augmentation by the fuzzy logic-controlled braking resistor. Following a major disturbance in electric power systems, variable rotor speed of the synchronous generator is measured, and then the current through the braking resistor is controlled by the firing-angle of the thyristor switch, which is controlled by the fuzzy logic. Thus, the braking resistor controls the accelerating power in generators and makes the system transiently stable. Simulations are performed by using EMTP (Electro-Magnetic Transients Program). Through the simulation results of both balanced (3LG: Three-phase-to-ground) and unbalanced (2LG: Double line-to-ground;2LS: Line-to-line;and 1LG: Single line-to-ground) faults, the effectiveness of the fuzzy controlled braking resistor is demonstrated and the optimal conductance value of the braking resistor in enhancing the transient stability is investigated.

Innovation on 3D shape design relies on advanced product design theory and effective design tools. The requirements for design tools mainly include collaborative performance and natural performance of interaction. In this paper, a 3D collaborative editing environment based on interactive transaction log is put forward and moreover the system architecture is presented. The collaborative mechanism is discussed and the collision detection of manipulation and application strategy during the course of multi-user concurrency editing is studied, the interactive gesture appropriate to 3D model and application methods are studied too. Finally a prototype system is built, which obtains satisfied result in practice.
