Surface discharge of oil paper insulation is one of the insulation defects in converter transformers. However, the mechanism of surface discharge in oil paper insulation remains unclear. A novel method of surface discharge in oil paper insulation based on finite element method (FEM) and cellular automata (CA) was proposed to study the mechanism and fractal characteristics. Firstly, the needle-plate electrode without normal component of electric field density was adopted as the geometric model, on which the unstructured triangular mesh generation was performed. Then, the FEM is applied to compute the distribution of potential, electric field and charge in the simulated field, which performed better than finite difference method (FDM) in accuracy and complexity of computation. Finally, the CA model was adopted to simulate the development of surface discharge with the electric field threshold. The results indicated that the numerical simulation model based on FEM-CA can simulate the dynamic process and fractal characteristics of surface discharge in oil paper insulation. According to the fractal dimension curve, the surface discharge can be obviously divided into three stages: inception, propagation and flashover. With the increase of applied voltage, the fractal dimension of surface discharge increases in inception stage, then decreases in propagation stage, and finally increases in flashover stage. © 2021 The Institution of engineering and Technology.

A generalized non-affine nonlinear power system model is presented for a single machine bus power system with a Static Var Compensator(SVC)or State Var system(SVS)for hybrid Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs).The model is constructed by differential algebraic equations on the MATLAB-Simulink platform with the programming technique of its *** the inverse system method and the Linear Quadratic Regulation(LQR),an optimized SVC controller is *** simulations under three fault conditions show that the proposed controller can effectively improve the power system transient performance.

Auxiliary frequency control of a wind turbine generator(WTG) has been widely used to enhance the frequencysecurity of power systems with high penetration of renewableenergy. Previous studies recommend two types of control schemes,including frequency droop control and emulated inertia control,which simulate the response characteristics of the synchronousgenerator (SG). This paper plans to further explore the optimalauxiliary frequency control of the wind turbine based on previousresearch. First, it is determined that the virtual inertia control haslittle effect on the maximum rate of change of frequency (MaxROCOF)if the time delay of the control link of WTG is taken intoconsideration. Secondly, if a WTG operates in maximum powerpoint tracking (MPPT) mode and uses the rotor deceleration forfrequency modulation, its optimal auxiliary frequency control willcontain only droop control. Furthermore, if the droop control isproperly delayed, better system frequency response (SFR) willbe obtained. The reason is that coordination between the WTGand SG is important for SFR when the frequency modulationcapability of the WTG is limited. The frequency modulationcapability of the WTG is required to be released more ***, when designing optimal auxiliary frequency controlfor the WTG, a better control scheme is worth further study.

Data-driven Transient Stability Assessment Model Considering Network Topology Changes via Mahalanobis Kernel Regression and Ensemble Learning

Transient stability assessment(TSA)is of great importance in power system operation and *** of the usual tasks in TSA is to estimate the critical clearing time(CCT)of a given fault under the given network topology and pre-fault power ***-driven methods try to obtain models describing the mapping between these factors and the CCT from a large number of ***,the influence of network topology on CCT is hard to be analyzed and is often ignored,which makes the models inaccurate and *** this paper,a novel data-driven TSA model combining Mahalanobis kernel regression and ensemble learning is proposed to deal with the *** model is a weighted sum of several *** sub-model only uses the data of one topology to construct a kernel *** weights are determined by both the topological similarity and numerical similarity between the *** similarities are decided by the parameters in Mahalanobis distance,and the parameters are to be *** reduce the model complexity,sub-models within the same topology category share the same *** estimating CCT,the model uses not only the sub-model which the sample topology belongs to,but also other ***,it avoids the problem that there may be too few data under some *** also efficiently utilizes information of data under all the ***,its decision-making process is clear and understandable,and an effective training algorithm is also *** results on both the IEEE 10-machine 39-bus and a real system verify the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Enhancing the electrical performance of silicone rubber (SiR) for cable accessories is noteworthy as they are almost the weakest parts of the cable system. Two types of voltage stabilizers were grafted onto the surface of nano-zirconia (ZrO 2 ) particles, and the grafted nanoparticles were added to the SiR. Measurements such as breakdown strength, and conductivity were carried out to evaluate the electrical performance of SiR nanocomposites. The electrical performance measurement results indicated that the breakdown strength of the nanocomposite SiR improved while the conductance current was reduced. The trap distribution showed that the improvement of the electrical performance of the nanocomposite SiR is mainly due to the decrease of the shallow trap density or the increase of the deep trap density.

High voltage circuit breakers (HVCBs) in the gas insulated switch gear (GIS) play an important role in the control and protection of power system. The mechanical faults account for the largest part of common faults in HVCBs. This paper establishes the rigid-flexible model of a 550 kV GIS HVCB, and experimentally studies the behavior characteristics of the HVCB under mechanical fault situation. Firstly, the fine 3D structure model of the 550 kV GIS HVCB is built and the arc-extinguishing principle of the HVCB is analyzed. Then, the rigid model and the rigid-flexible coupling model of the HVCB’s components and the whole system are established. The vibration signals of the two models are simulated and compared based on the finite element method. The component model mainly consists of the static arc contact and the dynamic arc contact. Furthermore, the mechanical fault is artificially set in the HVCB, and the vibration waveform are obtained. Finally, the simulation data is compared with the experimental results and the fault characteristics are analyzed. This research realizes the modeling, simulation and measurement of HVCB dynamic characteristics, which is of great significance to the diagnosis and prevention of HVCB mechanical faults.

Compared to Si IGBTs, SiC MOSFETs can reduce switching losses, achieve higher switching frequencies and enable smaller converter size. However, due to the high dv/dt of SiC MOSFETs, certain topologies, such as two SiC MOSFETs in a phase-leg configuration, are highly sensitive to crosstalk, which can slow down switching speed and even reduce gate oxide’s lifetime. In this paper, an accurate model of crosstalk is established by considering the impacts of both dv/dt and di/dt in the power loop. The proposed model can simulate the gate-source voltage on bare die of SiC MOSFETs, allowing for a more accurate evaluation of the impact of crosstalk. Model verification is implemented using a double pulse test (DPT) platform and a gate driver with active miller clamp technology. Key parameters of the model are extracted from both 3D simulation models and measurement experiments. The DPT waveform of power loop is used as the excitation source in the simulation, and the simulated gate-source waveform shows good agreement with the experimental waveform. Based on the model, parameter sensitivity analysis is performed, and suggestions for improving crosstalk suppression are proposed.

As the core part of metal oxide arresters, ZnO varistor plays an important part in suppressing the overvoltage of power systems. With the development of UHV technology, the residual voltage and energy capacity of ZnO varistors have put forward higher requirements. The research is carried out from the perspective of material calculation, studied the correlation mechanism between micro-structure parameters and various macroscopic electrical characteristics of ZnO varistor based on Voronoi network. And the microstructure parameters such as grain size and size inhomogeneity were calculated and studied. The study simplified the optimization problem with multiple variates and objectives, into the one with two categories of variates and two categories of objectives. And then proposed specific strategies. The research provides important theoretical basis for improving the performance of ZnO varistors, and witch is of great significance for the design and manufacture of high-performance lightning arresters. © 2023 IEEE.

The interaction between various energy supply systems (cold, heat, electricity, gas, etc.) is becoming more tightly coupled as social economy and technology advance. Multi-energy systems are ineffective because different types of energy systems run independently. In order to protect the data privacy of each sub-system, this research suggests an ideal resource management framework for a multi-energy group control system. The energy hub (EH) paradigm is first suggested. When deploying EHs, the physical constraints of various energy systems are taken into account. Through scenario-based stochastic programming, the uncertainties of renewable energy are considered. According to the leader-follower relationship between multi-energy group control system operators and energy hub operators (EHOs), Benders decomposition is applied to decentralize the decision-making process. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm.

Distributed integrated multi-energy systems(DIMSs)can be regarded as virtual power plants to provide additional flexibility to the power *** paper proposes a robust active dynamic aggregation model for the DIMSs to describe the maximum feasible *** aggregation model includes the power constraints,energy constraints,and ramping constraints to aggregate different types of resources in the *** proposed generator-like and storage-like model does not depend on the ancillary service market and can be directly incorporated into the economic dispatch model of the power system.A novel algorithm based on the column-and-constraint generation algorithm and convex-concave procedure is proposed to solve the two-stage robust optimization problem,which is more efficient than the KKT-based ***,a case study of an actual DIMS is developed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model.
