This paper revisits the problem of estimating the domain of attraction for systems with saturation *** divide the input space into several regions. In one of these regions, none of the inputs saturate. In each of the remaining regions, there is a unique input that saturates everywhere with the time-derivative of its saturated signal being zero. These special properties of the inputs in different regions of the input space are combined with an existing piecewise quadratic Lyapunov functions that contains the information of input saturation to arrive at a set of less conservative stability conditions, from which a larger level set of the piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function can be obtained as an estimate of the domain of *** results indicate that the proposed approach has the ability to obtain a significantly larger estimate of the domain of attraction than the existing methods.

This paper is devoted to the consensus problem of the second-order multi-agent with leader and time-delays. By applying the frequency-domain method, some sufficient conditions for consensus of systems are given. And the upper bound of time-delays is deduced, which depends on the largest eigenvalue of the sum matrix of Laplacian matrix and the adjacency matrix between leader and followers. Finally, the effectiveness of conclusion is verified through the numerical simulation experiments.

In this paper, we consider the control of large-scale processes with both input and state couplings. A distributed model predictive control(MPC) strategy for tracking based on the reference trajectories is presented. The proposed distributed MPC strategy requires decomposing a large-scale system into several smaller ones and solving convex optimization problems independently. Distributed MPC tracking strategies for unconstrained and constrained processes are presented, respectively. An iterative algorithm is presented to coordinate the distributed MPC controllers. The proposed algorithm is applied to a four-tank process to demonstrate the effectiveness.

As well-known, model predictive control is closely related to optimal control. This paper studies relationships between them and provides a unified framework for optimality analysis of model predictive controllers (MPC). The optimality is evaluated by comparing total performance of MPC with finite and infinite horizon optimal cost. Based on relaxed value iteration method, upper and lower bounds of optimality evaluation functions are expressed explicitly in terms of optimization horizon. These results reveal detailed characteristics on performance of closed-loop MPC systems due to using “receding horizon optimization” implementation style.

Piezoelectric transformers (PTs) are capable of generating the high accelerating potentials required for many charged-particle beam applications. However, the PTs need to be characterized during operation as an accelerator for such beam loads. PT characteristics such as internal stress, electric field, and electric potential can provide insight into the optimal operating conditions for a given application. Measurement of internal stress can be used to ensure that the single-crystal lithium niobate (LiNbO 3 ) PT does not exceed the fracture limit. Internal electric field and potential can be used to determine the accelerating potential created by the PT. Internal parameters such as these have been measured using an optical diagnostic that relies on the inherent photoelastic and electro-optic properties of lithium niobate. Beam currents have been determined using least-squares curve fitting with experimental and modeled results. Further characterization of the beam interactions with the PT was done by examining the direct bremsstrahlung x-ray spectra that were produced and the x-ray fluorescence peaks excited by the source. This paper presents a variety of PT characterization results under varied PT operating conditions.

With the widespread use of mobile devices, the location-based service(LBS) applications become increasingly popular, which introduces the new security challenge to protect user's location privacy. On one hand, a user expects to report his own location as far as possible away from his real location to protect his location privacy. On the other hand, in order to obtain high quality of service(QoS), users are required to report their locations as accurate as possible. To achieve the dedicated tradeoff between privacy requirement and QoS requirement, we propose a novel approach based on cloaking technique. We also discuss the disadvantage of the traditional general system model and propose an improved model. The basic idea of our approach is to select a sub-area from the generated cloaking area as user's reported location. The sub-area may not contain a user's real location,which prevents an adversary from performing attack with side information. Specifically, by defining an objective function with a novel location privacy metric and a QoS metric, we are able to convert the privacy issue to an optimization problem. Then, location privacy metric and QoS metric are given. To reduce the complexity of the optimization, a heuristic algorithm is *** privacy-preserving analysis and comparison with related work [8], we demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our approach.

On Infinite Time Performance of Nonlinear Model Predictive Controllers

This paper addresses the problem of infinite time performance of model predictive controllers applied to constrained nonlinear systems. The total performance is compared with a finite horizon optimal cost to reveal performance limits of closed-loop model predictive control systems. Based on the Principle of Optimality, an upper and a lower bound of the ratio between the total performance and the finite horizon optimal cost are obtained explicitly expressed by the optimization horizon. The results also illustrate, from viewpoint of performance, how model predictive controllers approaches to infinite optimal controllers as the optimization horizon increases.

Gene selection is a key issue in the analysis of microarray data with small samples and variant correlation. The main objective of this paper is to select the most informative genes from thousands of genes with strong correlation. This is achieved by proposing an efficient two-stage gene selection (TSGS) algorithm. In this algorithm, the L2- norm penalty are firstly introduced to achieve the grouping effect for the highly correlated genes. To overcome the small samples problem, the augmented data technique is then used to produce an augmented data set. Finally, by using the recently proposed two-stage algorithm, the most informative genes can be selected effectively. Simulation results confirm its effectiveness of the proposed approach in comparison with the popular Elastic Net method. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

Despite the numerous benefits brought by device-to-device (D2D) communications, user equipments (UEs) are typically handheld devices with limited battery life and can quickly run out of battery if power consumption is ignored in the system design. Compared to previous works that have not taken power consumption into consideration, we model the utility function as a weighted sum of achievable transmission rate, power consumption, and interference revenue (or cost) based on multi-objective optimization (MOO) methods. The resource allocation process is modeled as a two-stage Stackelberg game with transmission power and quality of service (QoS) constraints, in which cellular UEs are game leaders who charges D2D UEs for reusing channels, and D2D UEs are game followers who buy channel resources from cellular UEs. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and how the system parameters affect the pricing and transmission power strategies.
