We propose combining energy storage control with pitch control of wind turbines to give wind farms a primary frequency regulation capability similar to thermal power units. Using chance-constrained programming to handle the relationship between reliability and operating cost, and considering the full life-cycle cost of energy storage, we establish a chance-constrained programming model with the objective of minimizing the wind-storage joint frequency regulation operating cost. This achieves a trade-off between operating cost and reliability of the wind-storage frequency regulation system. We use the ant-lion algorithm to solve the model and obtain the optimal configuration of energy storage power and capacity for the wind farm, and compare the optimization results of the ant-lion algorithm with those of the particle swarm algorithm and the genetic algorithm. A case study is presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper considers the problem of approximating the infinite-horizon value function of the discrete-time switched LQR *** particular,the authors propose a new value iteration method to generate a sequence of monotonically decreasing functions that converges exponentially to the value *** method facilitates us to use coarse approximations resulting from faster but less accurate algorithms for further value iteration,and thus,the proposed approach is capable of achieving a better approximation for a given computation time compared with the existing *** numerical examples are presented in this paper to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Keeping track of time is regarded as an essential human behavior. The question of how the brain deals with temporal information remains a subject of scholarly debate. The current investigation aims to explore the mechanism underlying time perception by extracting fractal dimension from an electroencephalogram (EEG) signal and its frequency bands. To accomplish this, Higuchi’s fractal dimension was calculated for 42 healthy subjects’ electroencephalogram (EEG) signal and its sub-bands during the time perception task. The EEG signal was recorded from 19 channels. Subsequently, a statistical analysis was conducted to compare participants who underestimated versus those who overestimated the elapsed time and significantly different channels were presented. The findings suggest an elevated level of fractal dimensionality in persons who displayed a tendency to overestimate time. The EEG signal and Gamma rhythm emerged as the most distinguishing signals between the two cohorts. The contrast in fractal dimension between the two groups was predominantly apparent in the parietal and central channels. To summarize, an increased level of complexity is discernible in the EEG signal and high-frequency rhythms when there is an overestimation of temporal duration. It can be asserted that the employment of FD yields presents an exceptional approach to comprehending cerebral functionalities, notably temporal perception. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Feasibility study of renewable e-methanol production:A substitution pathway from blue to green

Producing renewable e-methanol from e-hydrogen and diverse carbon sources is an essential way for clean methanol *** this,the technical and economic feasibility of different e-methanols has yet to be thoroughly compared,leaving the most promising pathway to achieve commercialization yet *** paper reports a preliminary analysis of the lifecycle greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions and costs of four renewable e-methanols with different carbon sources:bio-carbon,direct air capture(DAC),fossil fuel carbon capture(FFCC),and *** results indicate that renewable e-methanol costs(4167−10250 CNY/tonne)2−4 times the market rate of grey ***,with the carbon tax and the projected decline in e-H2 costs,blue e-methanol may initially replace diesel in inland navigation,followed by a shift from heavy fuel oil(HFO)to green e-methanol in ocean ***,the e-H2 cost and the availability of green carbon are vital factors affecting cost-effectiveness.A reduction in e-H2 cost from 2.1 CNY/Nm3 to 1.1 CNY/Nm3 resulting from a transition from an annual to a daily scheduling period,could lower e-methanol costs by 1200 to 2100 *** paper also provides an in-depth discussion on the challenges and opportunities associated with the various green carbon sources.

A multiple power quality(MPQ)disturbance has two or more power quality(PQ)disturbances superimposed on a voltage signal.A compact and robust technique is required to identify and classify the MPQ *** manuscript investigated a hybrid algorithm which is designed using parallel processing of voltage with multiple power quality(MPQ)disturbance using stockwell transform(ST)and hilbert transform(HT).This will reduce the computational time to identify theMPQdisturbances,whichmakes the algorithm fast.A MPQ identification index(IPI)is computed using statistical features extracted from the voltage signal using the ST and *** has different patterns for various types of MPQ disturbances which effectively identify the MPQ disturbances.A MPQ time location index(IPL)is computed using the features extracted from the voltage signal using ST and *** effectively identifies the initiation and end of PQ disturbances and thereby locates the MPQ events with respect to *** of MPQ disturbances is performed using decision rules in both the noise-free and noisy environments with a 20 dB noise to signal ratio(SNR).The performance of the proposed hybrid algorithm using ST and HT with rule-based decision tree(RBDT)is better compared to the ST and RBDT techniques in terms of accuracy of classification of MPQ *** software is used to perform the study.

Whether the trailing drop impacts during the spreading or receding process of the leading drop is determined by the time interval. Decentralized Robust Energy Management of Multi-area Integrated Electricity-gas systems

This paper proposes a fast and decentralized solution methodology for the robust operation of multi-area integrated electricity-gas systems(M-IEGSs).A deterministic reformulation is obtained for the two-stage robust model by applying the linear decision rule based electrical reserve utilization scheme as well as regulating the distributed gas *** linear approximations are developed for the nonconvex Weymouth equation in the gas network to determine the gas flow *** penalty convex-concave procedure(P-CCP)is then adopted to refine a feasible local optimum for the nonconvex model with an acceleration *** decentralized decision-making is enabled by the alternating direction multipliers method(ADMM).The convergence as well as computation performance of the overall solution procedure can be guaranteed as only convex optimizations are *** results validate the effectiveness of the proposed methods as well as the benefits of the proposed convex programing based solution procedure.
