In the field of battery circuit model parameter estimation, the combination of bilinear transformation with the least squares method has garnered widespread attention due to its excellent performance under continuous current conditions. However, in dynamic reconfigurable battery network (DRBN), the network's topological structure is constantly changing, and the battery current consists of non-periodic pulse signal sequences, making it challenging for traditional methods to accurately estimate the battery model parameters within such networks. To address this issue, this paper proposes a lithium-ion battery circuit model parameter estimation method that takes into account network topology reconfiguration. This method, based on the operational modes and sampling methods of DRBN, derives a new discrete transformation formula for the transfer function and constructs a least squares model parameter identification model using this formula. By establishing an experimental platform for DRBN, the effectiveness of the proposed method is validated in this paper. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

Advanced Grid-Forming Undersea Pumped Storage to Enable 100% Renewable Offshore Oilfield power systems

To advance carbon reduction of the offshore oilfield power system (OOPS), the grid-forming undersea pumped storage system (GFM-UPSS) emerges as a promising solution. This paper introduces a novel framework for a 100% renewable OOPS utilizing the GFM-UPSS. Firstly, the control strategy of the GFM-UPSS is presented. It consists of the grid-side converter (GSC), machine-side converter (MSC), and reversible pump-turbine (RPT) to achieve frequency and voltage regulation. A steady-state model is then developed detailing the water head, power, and volume of the spherical shell. In addition, the paper explores the converter parameter impacts on the GFM-UPSS transient model and derives the closed-form solutions. With the steady-state model, an optimal sizing method is presented and economic advantages in the marine environment are studied for the GFM-UPSS. Finally, EMT simulations are conducted to assess the frequency & voltage stabilities and verify the effectiveness of the GFM-UPSS in enabling a 100% renewable OOPS. The optimal sizing results show that construction costs, mainly for OWP, are dominated and are influenced by sphere radius, placement depth, and start-stop cycles, while a 2.5 capacity ratio between OWP and GFM-UPSS consistently emerges as optimal. Moreover, analysis of transient stability shows that it improves with higher frequency & voltage modulation coefficient and lower virtual impedance. The impact of RPT and MSC, mainly on frequency regulation, is determined by the DC droop coefficient and turbine inertia. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Existing energy storage operation strategies take renewable energy unit consumption as the main goal, and often operate in conjunction with renewable energy projects, resulting in low energy storage utilization rate and insufficient driving force for energy storage operators to develop independent energy storage. However, with the implementation of independent energy storage operation support policies, the regional peak shaving service market gradually expands to include energy storage. Energy storage can have a positive impact on the economy of the power system as well as its utilization rate. According to the historical East Inner Mongolia power Grid operational data, this paper established the annual chronological operation simulation model of peak shaving market participation by energy storage. By analyzing and summarizing the results of energy storage operation state obtained from the annual operation simulation, the energy storage operation strategy of taking part in peak shaving market based on system supply and demand margin was proposed. The two charge and two discharge or three charge and two discharge strategy, which are the most common operation modes of operation simulation, are compared with the proposed operation strategy. It is evident that energy storage's involvement in system peak shaving can lessen thermal units' peak shaving pressure, enhance the benefits of energy storage as a market participant for auxiliary services and the system's overall efficiency in terms of electricity consumption. © 2024 IEEE.

As a kind of grid-forming control method that can effectively provide virtual inertia for the power grid, the virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control has received increasing attention in recent years. However, the VSG control will extract energy from the DC side during a grid frequency drop, which brings a burden on the stability of the DC side of a VSG. To address this problem, this paper establishes a fully analytical small-signal model of the VSG DC terminal impedance, incorporating both the inertia mechanism and the DC side dynamics. The accuracy of the model is validated through comparison with the sweep frequency results of the simulation. Finally, the Nyquist criterion is employed to analyze the DC stability of the VSG, and the simulation results match well with the theoretical predictions. © 2024 IEEE.

Optimization of transactive energy systems with demand response: A cyber-physical-social system perspective

With the increasing penetration of renewable energy, a new type of energy system, transactive energy systems (TES), has emerged. This study investigates the challenges of optimally operating a TES distribution system with demand response (DR) from the cyber-physical-social system (CPSS) perspective. A TES optimization framework that integrates artificial systems, computational experiments, and parallel energy theory for modelling DR, via parallel system theory, is introduced. A data-driven artificial DR system is created and modelled using limited data. In the computational experiment, a complete information Stackelberg game model for the distribution network operator and the artificial DR system is built. This simulates the response relationship between the distribution network operator and the electricity consumer under different price conditions. In the parallel energy optimization model, a multi-time scale energy optimization method which considers day-ahead and intraday scenarios, the interaction between the actual TES and the artificial DR system is shown. Finally, empirical data from the Henan province in China is used as a case study to verify the effectiveness of the optimization method proposed in this study. © 2022 The Authors. Reinforcement learning(RL) has roots in dynamic programming and it is called adaptive/approximate dynamic programming(ADP) within the control community. This paper reviews recent developments in ADP along with RL and its applications to various advanced control fields. First, the background of the development of ADP is described, emphasizing the significance of regulation and tracking control problems. Some effective offline and online algorithms for ADP/adaptive critic control are displayed, where the main results towards discrete-time systems and continuous-time systems are surveyed, ***, the research progress on adaptive critic control based on the event-triggered framework and under uncertain environment is discussed, respectively, where event-based design, robust stabilization, and game design are reviewed. Moreover, the extensions of ADP for addressing control problems under complex environment attract enormous attention. The ADP architecture is revisited under the perspective of data-driven and RL frameworks,showing how they promote ADP formulation ***, several typical control applications with respect to RL and ADP are summarized, particularly in the fields of wastewater treatment processes and power systems, followed by some general prospects for future research. Overall, the comprehensive survey on ADP and RL for advanced control applications has d emonstrated its remarkable potential within the artificial intelligence era. In addition, it also plays a vital role in promoting environmental protection and industrial intelligence.

Resonant switched capacitor converters have the advantages of small size, light weight and high efficiency, but have poor voltage regulation ability. To overcome this problem, a quasi-parallel resonant switched capacitor DC-DC converter is proposed in this paper, which mainly incorporates a resonant switched capacitor converter with soft-switching and variable voltage ratio and a Buck converter. Most of the power can be transmitted by the resonant switched capacitor converter, while the Buck converter is responsible for output voltage regulation. In addition, the voltage ratio of the resonant switched capacitor converter can be flexibly changed base on the input voltage, which is beneficial for Buck converter to always handle a small portion of power. Furthermore, input voltage feedforward control is incorporated to suppress the input voltage disturbance. The proposed converter can not only continuously regulate the voltage over a wide range, but also perform high efficiency and achieve rapid dynamic response. The operating principle of the converter is introduced, the circuit characteristic is analyzed, and the correctness of the theoretical analysis is verified by experiments. © 2024 IEEE.
