This research explains the bandwidth verification and application of the VHF antenna for partial discharge measurement. Three different VHF antennas were used for the experiment. In the research, the measuring bandwidth of such antennas was evaluated using a network analyzer. The antenna properties such as return loss and voltage standing wave ratio were analyzed. Then, the partial discharge in the air was simulated using the surface discharge model. The physical phenomena of PD occur like pulse current transients and electromagnetic waves. The pulse current transients were detected using a coupling capacitor and HFCT sensor, while the electromagnetic wave was detected using a VHF antenna. five test positions of the VHF antenna were designated for partial discharge measurements namely 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 meters away from the partial discharge source. The PRPD pattern, PD magnitude, and waveform obtained from the VHF antenna were compared with coupling capacitors and HFCT sensors and presented in this paper. It is found that the VHF antenna, which has higher return loss and lower voltage standing wave ratio, provides high performance to detect the electromagnetic wave of partial discharge.

Under the background of the increasing proportion of new energy power generation, the mismatch of “source-load” occurs between regions. To effectively improve the utilization rate of peaking resources and increase the amount of “source-load” matching, this paper proposes the optimal scheduling of multiregional peaking resources considering network currents. The strategy takes into account the impact of wind power penetration rate on the demand for peaking resources and connects the regions with different peaking characteristics using contact lines. It evaluates and iterates the peaking resources of each region in each time period and finds the optimal amount of peaking resources and the optimal output of thermal power units in each region. Through simulation, the results show that the proposed strategy effectively improves wind power consumption and system operation economy.

Rotating machine is a vital asset of the power plants. For the motors and generators in service, the stator winding insulation is generally operated under thermal, electrical, ambient, and mechanical stresses. The combination of these stresses causes insulation degradation that can lead to early aging or severe damage and, finally, the failure of such machines. The failure of rotating machines may result in immense financial loss and other aspects. Polarization and depolarization current (PDC) measurement has been introduced as one of the time-domain dielectric spectroscopy test techniques applied for insulation condition testing. This paper represents the application of PDC measurement to evaluate the insulation for the stator bars/coil insulation experienced with various kinds of stresses. Moreover, the PDC field test of generators and high voltage motors used in the power plants is introduced. From the experiments, the dielectric parameters obtained from PDC measurements are clearly useful parameters to evaluate the electrical insulation of such rotating machines. © 2021 IEEE.

High percentage of photovoltaic gain connect to the wire line, so that the electricity grid from power distribution of the receiving end of the network into a set of production, storage, distribution of multi-source complex new network, the distribution network security operation and new energy consumption pressure increases. In response to the above, this paper puts forward the distributed ES multi-objective optimization configuration strategy of distribution network adapted to the high penetration rate distributed PV. And through a county power grid practical example to certify that the ES configuration approach proposed can effectively mitigate the impact of a high proportion of PV accessed, and it can reduce the abandonment of light.

The ±500kV Yunnan Yongren-Funing DC transmission project is the first HVDC project whose starting point and landing point are both in the same province. It is located in a weak AC system, the transmission line is short and the smoothing reactor has a low inductance value. When a short-circuit fault occurs outside the DC line protection zone, the DC line traveling wave protection (WFPDL) is prone to misoperation and does not meet the requirements of protection reliability. This article analyzes and accurately locates the defects of the original WFPDL strategy, and proposes a scientific and reasonable optimization scheme for the threshold of voltage mutation du/dt. After RTDS simulation analysis and verification, it shows that the scheme not only improves the reliability of WFPDL effectively, but also meets the requirements for selectivity, speediness and sensitivity, and does not affect the operation characteristic of voltage mutation protection 27du/dt, which is also related to the threshold of du/dt, all the DC line protections can still cooperate correctly. The optimization scheme is permanently implemented on site, and a number of artificial short-circuit tests have been carried out within and outside the DC line protection zone. The results show that in the transient process of faults, the control and protection system of HVDC, travelling wave fault location devices, stability control devices and 3 STATCOMs of inverter station can all respond correctly, their functions and dynamic performance meet the system requirements. © 2021 IEEE.

The power flow distribution of the GuangxiGuangdong AC transmission section (GX-GD section) has changed greatly as Kunliulong and Lugaozhao three-terminal HVDC projects have been put into operation, and it is necessary to study on the adaptability of out-of-step separation devices. Based on the real primary system, an equivalent system model is proposed in this paper which can accurately locate the oscillation center and calculate the minimum voltage at the measuring point. Dynamic real-time simulation is carried out for various types and different principles of out-of-step separation devices. Typical problems such as unreliable out-of-step locking criterion in the fault process and device refusing to move when the oscillation center is located at the device installation point are found and solved At the same time, based on the power grid panoramic simulation test technology and the actual configuration of out-of-step separation devices, the problems in the coordination of out-of-step devices near the GX-GD section are comprehensively studied, and the suggestions of putting the wide area out-of-step separation system into operation as soon as possible are put forward. The improvement and optimization measures proposed in this paper have been applied in the real system. © 2021 IEEE.

ESS (energy storage system) has many advantages such as flexible control, large throughput capacity and fast response speed and can provide strong support for system frequency stability with larger-scale renewable energy. In order to enhance the frequency regulation effect of ESS, this paper proposes an improved comprehensive inertia control strategy based on FC (fuzzy control). The conventional droop control is replaced by fuzzy control to improve the regulation performance and adaptivity of the whole process. SOC (state of charge) is adopted as the input of FC to consider the secure and stable constraints of ESS. In addition, FC is also applied to adjust the virtual inertia coefficients online. The proposed strategy combines the advantages of comprehensive inertial control and adaptive control and improve the frequency supporting ability of ESS under different operation conditions. Finally, simulations are conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method. © 2022 IEEE.

With the continuous development and progress of power electronics technology, the technological innovation of each generation of power semiconductors will have a profound impact on the generation, transmission, conversion and distribution of electrical energy, and has made outstanding contributions to the advancement of human civilization and economic and social development. In recent years, a new generation of wide-bandgap semiconductor power devices has developed vigorously, and new material switching devices such as SiC and GaN MOSFET have entered people's field of vision, which has brought new historical opportunities for the performance improvement of power electronic equipment, as well as new challenges. This paper presents a series-connected SiC MOSFET switching module topology with a single gate driver. Then, the working principle including static state and switching transition is analyzed. The LTspice simulations in the third section validate the analysis and show the usability of the series-connected SiC MOSFET stack topology using a single gate driver.

Heat pumps can play a crucial role in the European energy strategy 2050, which aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. When coupled with thermal energy storage and integrated with advanced control strategies, heat pump operation can be optimized to reduce carbon footprint and respond to the needs of system operators. However, to scale in a multitude of buildings, the transferability of the modeling into heterogeneous systems is crucial. In this paper, two different interpretable linear models, a hybrid (grey-box) and a fully data-driven (black-box) model are investigated. Specifically, two regression-based identification methods (SINDYc and DMDc) are used for dynamic models and the LASSO regression is used for static models. The transferability of the approach is evaluated using two real-world facilities with heterogeneous sizing and configuration. The results show a similar simulation performance for both cases with a maximum normalized RMSE of 0.41 and 0.60, respectively. This confirms the transferability of the approach that is necessary for large-scale implementation. © 2023 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Modern network-constrained unit commitment (NCUC) bears a heavy computational burden due to the ever-growing model scale. This situation becomes more challenging when detailed operational characteristics, complicated constraints, and multiple objectives are considered. We propose a novel simplification method to determine the flexible temporal resolution for acceleration and near-optimal solutions. The flexible temporal resolution is determined by analyzing the impact on generators in each adaptive time period with awareness of congestion effects. Additionally, multiple improvements are employed on the existing NCUC model compatible with flexible temporal resolution to reduce the number of integer variables while preserving the original features. A case study using the IEEE 118-bus and the Polish 2736-bus systems verifies that the proposed method achieves substantial acceleration with low cost variation and high accuracy.
