We employed a metallic wire grating loaded with graphene and operating in total internal reflection (TIR) geometry to realize deep and broadband THz modulation. The non-resonant field enhancement effect of the evanescent wave in TIR geometry and in the subwavelength wire grating was combined to demonstrate a ~77% modulation depth (MD) in the frequency range of 0.2–1.4 THz. This MD, achieved electrically with a SiO_2∕Si gated graphene device, was 4.5 times higher than that of the device without a metal grating in transmission geometry. By optimizing the parameters of the metallic wire grating, the required sheet conductivity of graphene for deep modulation was lowered to 0.87 mS. This work has potential applications in THz communication and real-time THz imaging.

The development of smart grids makes the dependence of powersystems on information systems increasing. However, the optimal routing of power communication networks does not mean the routing for powersystems is optimal. Besides, power communication networks are different from ordinary, public communication networks, as the secondary system of powersystems, the primary purpose is to ensure the reliability of powersystems. Based on the cyber-physical sensitivity analysis, the importance of information flow can be evaluated. Then, a dynamic CPS optimal routing model distinguishing the importance of information flow is proposed to configure more reliable and shorter path to higher importance information flow. Case study on different scenarios of a modified IEEE 14-bus system demonstrates the validity of the proposed routing optimization model.

With the development of distributed generation technology and the requirement of power system flexibility, the research on multiple flexible resource optimization is carried out. Based on the traditional optimal configuration of wind-solar-hydro-storage system, this paper takes electric vehicle into consideration. Firstly, the model of each flexible resource is established. Then, a comprehensive evaluation index system is built. Taking the flexible resources in a city on the eastern coast of China as a case, multi-objective grey wolf optimization algorithm and entropy weight method are applied to do the optimization and evaluation. The simulation result shows that in the optimal configuration, not only the renewable resources can be effectively utilized, but also the requirement of load in different period can be meet. Moreover, the total investment can be greatly reduced. In addition, the participation of electric vehicles can not only improve the performance of the hybrid system, but also increase the income of EV holders.

Operate at ~ 30 K - Typically applications with substantial magnetic field need to operate at lower temperatures to compensate for the reduction in critical current due to the magnetic field. The motors have rotors superconducting and stators are made of copper. HTS materials do have AC losses if operated under time-varying magnetic field or current. Low AC loss HTS conductor needs to be developed for realizing fully superconducting motors and generators. Low AC loss conductor is under development.
