A Two-level Energy Storage System for Wind Energy systems

Wind power outputs fluctuate with the changing of wind speed. The use of energy storage equipment is considered a reasonable solution to suppress wind power fluctuations. An energy storage mode may have its disadvantages over the others, for example, capacity limits, dynamic response, higher prices or shorter lifetime. Moreover, wind power fluctuations are present at different frequencies, to demand the energy storage to offer power support in different time ranges. To improve the performance, in this paper, a combined energy storage mode is discussed to meet the short-term and long-term energy storage requirement for wind power. Short-term energy storage is designed to meet the fast-changing power, using such as super capacitors. Long-term energy is designed to meet the large-scale capacity requirement using Li-ion battery or Vanadium Redox Battery (VRB). By analyzing the actual data of wind power outputs, the capacities of the two kinds of energy storage means are given as an example of the method.

In order to study the electromagnetic coupling law of one typical metal body, electromagnetic simulation software FEKO is utilized to set up the typical metal body model. With the increase of the simulation frequency, different lengths of metal body internal coupling field curve gradually separated, has certain regularity of fitting. Preliminary determination by reducing the length of the metal equivalent for the test model is established and confirmed in law of fitting better experimental spectrum. © 2016 Taylor and Francis Group.

The problem of high resistance grounding fault detection in resonant grounding system is always the pain point and difficulty in the field of power system research. To solve the problem, based on PSCAD software, this paper firstly establishes a typical distribution system model, and analyzes the relationship between the transient component, traveling wave component and the fault initial angle, transition resistance value and arc. Secondly, this paper analyzes the effect of the main fault detection methods such as transient methods and travelling wave method, and gives the effective domain of different detection methods. Above analysis establishes a complete systematic test scheme for the high resistance grounding fault detection, and provides an effective test support for the subsequent effectual fault detection method for high resistance grounding fault. © 2019 IEEE.

An Internet of Energy Things Based on Wireless LPWAN

Under intense environmental pressure, the global energy sector is promoting the integration of renewable energy into interconnected energy systems. The demand-side management （DSM） of energy systems has drawn considerable industrial and academic attention in attempts to form new flexibilities to respond to variations in renewable energy inputs to the system. However, many DSM concepts are still in the experimental demonstration phase. One of the obstacles to DSM usage is that the current information infrastructure was mainly designed for centralized systems, and does not meet DSM requirements. To overcome this barrier, this paper proposes a novel information infrastructure named the lnternet of Energy Things （IoET） in order to make DSM practicable by basing it on the latest wireless communication technology： the low-power wide-area network （LPWAN）. The primary advantage of LPWAN over general packet radio service （GPRS） and area Internet of Things （loT） is its wide-area coverage, which comes with minimum power consumption and maintenance costs. Against this background, this paper briefly reviews the representative LPWAN tech- nologies of narrow-band Internet of Things （NB-IoT） and Long Range （LORa） technology, and compares them with GPRS and area IoT technology. Next, a wireless-to-cloud architecture is proposed for the IoET, based on the main technical features of LPWAN. Finally, this paper looks forward to the potential of IoET in various DSM application scenarios.

In recent years, human electric shock accident caused by line fault of distribution system has happened all over the world. This kind of problem of high resistance grounding fault safety is becoming more and more the attention of the researchers. In this paper, typical arc high resistance grounding fault model is established to simulate the human electric shock accident and the line fell to the ground condition. The transient- state and steady-state fault characteristics of high resistance grounding fault are analyzed in the neutral point grounded through a small resistance grounding system and the resonant grounding system. The above analysis has laid a good foundation for the establishment of an effective fault detection method for high resistance grounding and the realization of human electric shock protection. © 2019 IEEE.

Obtaining the lightning strike density along an overhead transmission line and identifying the lightning strike types are the key to evaluating the lightning protection performance and proposing reasonable protection schemes of transmission lines. In addition, the waveform characteristics of lightning invasion overvoltage are the basis to establish the standard on the insulation tests of power equipment. Measuring the transient process of lightning striking overhead transmission lines is the basis to carry out the work mentioned above. In this paper, a distributed measurement method of transient current on conductors caused by lightning strikes is proposed. The measuring units are installed on the field conductors of transmission lines every 30 km to obtain less-distorted transient current waveforms. In order to enable measuring units to work in field isolated environment, a power supply coil using Faraday electric-magnetic effect and a wireless communication module is designed and developed. By far, 4776 measuring units have been installed on 597 transmission lines of China's power grid. According to measured transient current waveforms, the lightning strike point can be located using the double-end or single-end travelling wave location method, and the lightning strike type can also be identified. Moreover, a novel measurement method of lightning transient voltage based on the integrated optical electric field sensor (IOEFS) is proposed. In this method, the transient voltage waveforms are inversed from space electric field waveforms measured by IOEFSs. A series of performance tests of IOEFS have been carried out. The test results indicate that the response speed can reach several nanoseconds, and the frequency response can cover 5Hz∼100MHz which is wide enough for the measurement of the lightning transient voltage. This paper presents the study of a long electric arc in free air due to lightning stroke on the parallel gap lightning protection device (PGLPD) on high-voltage overhead transmission lines. Based on the latest electric arc model, the analysis method of the magnetic field generated by the current flowing through the PGLPD, electric arc, transmission lines, steel tower, and ground wires is developed, and the movement process of the long arc along the surface of the insulator strings is simulated. The simulation results are in agreement with the experimental results. The study is very helpful for the optimal design and suitable assemblage of the PGLPD. © 2006 IEEE.

The growing penetration of renewables calls for finer temporal resolutions of the day-ahead unit commitment (DA-UC) problem in order to accommodate the fluctuations and improve the performance of UC schedules, leading to the expansion of the DA-UC problem scale. However, due to its high computational burden, the viability of adopting larger UC models in practice becomes a challenge. In this paper, an adaptive time period aggregation strategy and a corresponding DA-UC model are proposed to reduce the model scale while preserving feasibility and accuracy. The aggregation strategy integrates the statistical characteristics of net demand with the operational characteristics of thermal units to effectively capture the consistency in on/off statuses. Case study based on the IEEE 118-bus system validates that, combined with a post-processing procedure, the proposed strategy and model can provide near-optimal UC schedules with approximately 5 times acceleration for various demand profiles, enhancing computational efficiency. © 2022 IET Conference Proceedings. Phase-locked loop (PLL) based on traditional second-order generalized integrator (SOGI) cannot obtain the voltage, frequency and phase information accurately when there are multiple harmonic interference and DC offset in grid voltage. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an improved PLL that can suppress harmonic and eliminate DC component to extract the synchronous signal accurately. First of all, based on the derivation of distorted grid voltage expression, the problem offluctuation in extracting synchronous signal from three-phase unbalanced voltage with harmonic by traditional PLL is analyzed. Then, the design of improved PLL is proposed, which is composed of an improved second-order generalized integrator and a frequency correction component which can suppress harmonics and eliminate disturbances under the condition of grid voltage distortion, and has self-adaptability in large frequency offset. Determine the control parameters to ensure that the proposed PLL structure has a better rejection to harmonic distortion than previous approaches, and realize accurate tracking of grid fundamental frequency synchronization information. Finally, the behavior of the proposed system is verified with MATLAB/Simulink simulation and Hardware-in-Loop Experimental Platform which prove the proposed PLL can realize the synchronous tracking performance of grid frequency and phase quickly and accurately in the non-ideal grid environment, and the results are consistent with the theoretical analysis. © 2021 IEEE

This study proposes a steady-state model of multi-port electric energy router (EER) and a power flow analysis method for AC/DC hybrid system considering control strategies. Firstly, a circuit topology model of EER is put forward, including AC and DC port equivalent parts. Secondly, considering external control characteristics of EER, the control strategies including PQ mode, V/f mode, and droop mode are established, which is suitable for system analysis. Then, using the extended sub-network model, an AC/DC power flow model containing multi-port EER is established. In terms of the power flow algorithm for AC/DC hybrid system, AC/DC network admittance matrix and the extended AC/DC network modification equations are applied to solve the problem. Two examples are designed and show that EER can be used for flexible power regulation and voltage improvement. Besides, power flow analysis method of AC/DC hybrid system is demonstrated to be effective. © 2019 Institution of Engineering and *** right reserved.
