In this tutorial some basic linear algebra problems: basis change and projection, are discussed together with examples of their applications in signal and image processing. In typical linear algebra university courses perpendicular projections are only discussed. However, in image processing, for defining various color spaces, we need non-perpendicular projections. The paper presents project and its verification of a prototype integrated circuit containing an analog, programmable finite impulse response (FIR) filter, implemented in CMOS 350 nm technology. The structure of the filter is based on the switched capacitor technique. In circuits of this type, one of main challenges is an efficient implementation of filter coefficients, which result from several factors described in this work. When implementing such filters as programmable circuits, the values of their coefficients have to be limited to a selected range, i.e. a given resolution in bits. In the implemented prototype filter, the filter coefficients are represented by 6 bits in sign-magnitude notation, so they can take 63 different values only. In such filters, it is not possible to directly implement any frequency response of the filter. Each time, it is necessary to properly round the theoretical values of the coefficients so that they fit into the available range of discrete values resulting from the implementation. The authors of the work designed an algorithm that allows such matching. The latest EASA recommendations from 2024 indicate the possibility of using machine learning techniques in aerodrome monitoring. The aim of the work was to analyze solutions and prepare FOD (Foreign Object Debris) object detection software on aerodromes. In order to implement the issue, a dataset of photos and video recordings for testing algorithms was developed. The dataset consists of 1480 photos showing FOD at aerodromes and photos of the runway itself, according to EASA and FAA recommendations. FOD detection was implemented using a classical, k-means method and effective YOLOv5. © 2024 Division of Signal Processing and Electronic systems, poznan university of technology (DSPES PUT).

Measuring luminous intensity using electronic sensors requires their precise positioning. In the case of mobile measurement platforms, it is important to detect the light source and thus determine the correct direction of movement of the measuring device. This article presents research on a solution for the initial detection of glowing airport lamps based on camera images. The impact of the selection of parameters and image processing methods on the prepared data set was assessed. The histogram filtration method was introduced to improve the effectiveness of airport lamp localization. The proposed solution was investigated in different weather and daytime conditions. The overall accuracy of the proposed solution is more than 90%. © 2024 Division of Signal Processing and Electronic systems, poznan university of technology (DSPES PUT).

The paper analyzes the preparation of software for acoustic signal classification with machine learning techniques for microcontrollers. The design process was tested for three types of devices: Nordic Thingy:53, *** and Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense Lite. The classifier training process was carried out using the Edge Impulse platform. Experimental studies were carried out for the process of classifying sound signals generated by the vacuum cleaner motor. The paper presents research on the accuracy of measuring illuminance and chromaticity of airport lamps. The impact of the type of DC and AC power supply on measurement was assessed with the use of electronic sensors. BH1750 and BH1745 type sensors in a microprocessor system with an I2C interface were used for the measurements. A professional luxmeter was used for comparison purposes. Experimental tests were carried out under laboratory conditions for three types of halogen lamps: approach system lamps, runway centerline lamps, and touchdown zone lamps. © 2023 Division of Signal Processing and Electronic systems, poznan university of technology (DSPES PUT).

The paper presents an analysis of fast selection of neural network for the purpose of visual analysis of mechanical wear on prism lenses of in-pavement airport navigational lighting systems. This issue is particularly important in terms of aviation safety and navigational lighting control, regulated by EASA and ICAO. The article is the next stage of the development of the system for the vision control of lamps, in which the concept of using a different neural network with an increased data set prepared by the authors is presented. The Deep Network Designer tool included in the Matlab 2022b environment was used. The solution using the GoogLeNet neural network allows for the classification of lamps with an accuracy of 88.37%. © 2023 Division of Signal Processing and Electronic systems, poznan university of technology (DSPES PUT).

In recent years, power quality (PQ) measurement system have become essential for enhancing the performance and reliability of power distribution networks. The number of PQ analyzers installed in these networks has increased significantly. Moreover, PQ measurements are now often integrated into various devices, including balance and industrial energy meters. However, the sheer volume of data generated by these meters makes manual inspection and analysis impractical. This highlights the need for advanced automated tools to manage and interpret these vast datasets. This paper presents an approach that uses aggregated 10-minute PQ measurement data from these meters as a screening method to locate sources of PQ disturbances. By employing both deterministic indicators and machine learning techniques, specifically neural network classification, this approach opens new possibilities for automating the analysis process, enabling network operators to effectively identify and prioritize significant sources of disturbances in distribution networks.

In this paper we compare different operation strategies for alkaline electrolyzis (AEL) systems using numeric simulation. We derived general models for mass and energy balances from literature and composed them into a model for an AEL system. Here we considered a numbered-up plant topology, containing multiple AEL stacks with single electrolyte distribution and gas separation systems. The gas impurities and achievable minimal load distribution were compared for the different operating strategies. The results were discussed and further conclusions for the operation of a homogeneous numbered-up AEL system were derived.
