This paper provides an analysis of an attack on wireless networks referred to as Rogue Access Point The concept and phases of a RAP attack are presented. Different variants of the attack were presented. Difficulties and typical network security measures that an attacker may encounter are discussed. The article also contains a brief description of methods and techniques that can be used to secure a network against such an attack. This article provides an analysis of an attack on wireless networks referred to as Evil Twin. In addition to a theoretical description, the article discusses the hardware and system combination used, while pointing out its relatively low complexity, and the complimentary nature of the solutions used, both the operating system and the software used are presented. This clearly translates into the potential when attempting to break through security and gain specific data. Furthermore, the authors present the individual phases of the attack, including the proposed subsequent optimisations, in order to make the attack practically applicable in most cases, regardless of the location and shape of the network under investigation. The paper additionally presents methods for tuning the functionality itself, in order to ultimately increase the probability of success of the attack itself. The article is the result of work devoted to reviewing the literature on the subject and conducting experiments with various scripts including their optimisation. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The evaluation of video quality in over-the-top (OTT) services is crucial to customer satisfaction, which ultimately determines customer loyalty and profitability. This evaluation may take place objectively based on signal-related metrics or subjectively by considering the customer's subjective feelings when consuming content. This short paper presents a subjective quality survey in the DSCQS formula implemented in a production television system using adaptive streaming. The survey is implemented in the form of two video sequences. TV users were asked to rate their perception of video quality on a scale of 1 to 100. Additional information was collected regarding age, viewing level, and vision correction. When designing a survey of this type, it is important to remember that you may get results that are not related to the actual perceived video quality of the test sequence. It could be feedback after a crash or degradation of the TV service or even other Internet related services. The study was developed as part of the QoE rating estimation system for live TV services. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Error estimation is an important step for error correction in quantum key distribution. Traditional error estimation methods require sacrificing a part of the sifted key, forcing a trade-off between the accuracy of error estimation and the size of the partial sifted key to be used and discarded. In this paper, we propose a hybrid approach that aims to preserve the entire sifted key after error estimation while preventing Eve from gaining any advantage. The entire sifted key, modified and extended by our proposed method, is sent for error estimation in a public channel. Although accessible to an eavesdropper, the modified and extended sifted key ensures that the number of attempts to crack it remains the same as when no information is leaked. The entire sifted key is preserved for subsequent procedures, indicating the efficient utilization of quantum resources.

Video streaming generates most network traffic in today’s Internet. For that reason, video on demand streaming is researched heavily in recent years, and many traffic monitoring mechanisms, flow and stream models, and models to predict the user perceived quality are well established. However, the quickly growing live streaming sector is not considered in these Quality of Experience models and not even the relation between network traffic and playback quality has been studied so far, forming a gap in literature. For that reason, we investigate *** streaming as one of the largest live streaming platforms based on a large dataset and investigate the possibility to predict live streaming quality based on uplink request information. We apply approaches that are well studied for on demand streaming to predict quality changes, playback quality, and video interruption events as the most important metrics impairing user perceived quality. In this context, we answer whether these models are suitable for live streaming, if small changes are sufficient for satisfactory prediction results, or if fundamental changes and new models are required.

User-Centric Markov Reward Model for State-Dependent Erlang Loss Systems- Example: Cloud Gaming with Admission Control

Markov reward models are commonly used in the analysis of systems by integrating a reward rate to each system state. Typically, rewards are defined based on system states and reflect the system’s perspective. From a user’s point of view, it is important to consider the changing system conditions and dynamics while the user consumes a service. As an exemplary use case, we consider cloud gaming and provide a Markov reward model to derive the user-centric and system-centric rewards. Thereby, we show by means of measurements that the cloud gaming scenario can be modeled with an Erlang loss model while the reward rates correspond to the video bitrates per *** key contributions are proper definitions for (i) system-centric reward and (ii) user-centric reward of the Erlang loss model M/M/n-0 and M/M(x)/n with state-dependent service rates, as well as (iii) the analysis of the relationships between those metrics. Our key result allows a simple computation of the user-centric rewards. For the cloud gaming use case, we provide (iv) numerical results on the trade-o between user-centric rewards and blocking probabilities to access the online cloud servers. We use Kleinrock’s power metric to identify operational points. The engagement of users is modeled with state-dependent play times of users and its impact on the reward is derived *** work gives relevant and important insights in how to integrate the user’s perspective in the analysis of Markov reward models and is a blueprint for the analysis of other services beyond cloud gaming. © 2023, The Authors. The recent natural disasters, such as the Earthquake in Morocco in September 2023, have demonstrated one more time the necessity of immediately restoring lost connectivity to rescue victims living in rural villages that are far from urban areas. In such a framework, three-dimensional (3D) Non-Terrestrial networks (NTNs) are expected to provide continuous wireless coverage at low Average Revenue Per User (ARPU), in disaster-hit and hotspot areas with the help of 5G New Radio (NR). This paper investigates the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) as transparent aerial networks that perform signal amplification and frequency conversion between a satellite-based 5G network and a User Equipment (UE) using five different frequency bands (i.e., S-band, C-band, X-band, Ku-band, and Ka-band) supporting the satellite communication. The applications of the proposed technology concern connection-critical scenarios like emergency rescue and digital divide mitigation. Results show that 180Mbps to 4.85Gbps throughput can be achieved on the satellite-to-UAV link. Simulated transmission delay and average session time are also evaluated considering a delay budget of 2ms. The related results discussion confirms the viability and effectiveness of the proposed approach in the concerned case of study.

The advent of 5G and the design of its architecture has become possible because of the previous individual scientific works and standardization efforts on cloud computing and network softwarization. Software-defined Networking and Network Function Virtualization started separately to find their convolution into 5G network architecture. Then, the ongoing design of the future beyond 5G (B5G) and 6G network architecture cannot overlook the pivotal inputs of different independent standardization efforts about autonomic networking, service-based communication systems, and multi-access edge computing. This article provides the design and the characteristics of an agent-based, softwarized, and intelligent architecture, which coherently condenses and merges the independent proposed architectural works by different standardization working groups and bodies.
