Referenced the fracture mechanics theories, based on the consideration of the destruction characteristics, the cementation force of ice in the frozen soil and fictitious crack, the wing crack fracture model of base layer of reservoir slope is proposed. The calculated results of finite element analysis agree with soil mechanics experimental results in terms of the soil mass of base layer of reservoir slope, which explains this theoretical model and its research methods are reasonable and effective. It is a meaningful attempt to research the anti-frost damage for base layer of reservoir slope in seasonal permafrost regions, and provides a reference for stability design. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper established a failure criterion of frozen soil based on fracture mechanics considering various defects and destruction mechanism of frozen soil. The criterion fits for frozen soil under small scale yielding conditions or brittle fracture. It indicates that the failure criterion is valid by applying to the actual anti-frozen research of hydraulic structures destruction. It provides a new idea for the research on the anti-frozen damage to hydraulic structures in seasonal frozen soil area. © 2011 IEEE.

The fracture energy release rate G ~ C , which is the important parameter of ice pressure calculation model that is built on energy balance method, is the fracture mechanics performance of ice material. It is related with these factors such as ice material loading rate Ṗ, which must be measured by experiment. It is the experimental method of fracture mechanics used in this paper. These ice specimens on the different thickness loading rate Ṗ were tested with fracture mechanics method at low-temperature testing machine, to obtain the fracture flexibility change rate d/da(1/M) of ice body which contains pre-crack and the values of P - Δ under different conditions of Ṗ, which could determine fracture energy release rate G ~ C of ice body during the ice pressure generated, which provide the necessary experimental data to establish ice layer pressure calculation model for the application of energy balance method.

Based on the study of fracture toughness II of frozen soil, the application of fracture toughness II is firstly used in undisturbed frozen soil in this paper. Because of undisturbed soil not vibrated and microstructures inside of the soil body not change, it is more realistic and more meaningful than remolded soil in laboratory. In the research, bend test stand was improved at first time, and drawing on prefabricated vertical cracks in rock fracture test to observe the cracks size by coloring. With the observations on layering frost heave of the local soil, the relations of frost heave, melt and time are obtained in different deep soil layers, so that the samples production and test temperature can be controlled strictly. The fracture toughness of four-pointbending vertical pre-cracked specimens of test IIof undisturbed frozen soil is obtained. Experimental results indicate that the undisturbed frozen soil mechanics experiment is completely available, and it is feasible to measure the crack size with coloring technology, the fracture toughness II of undisturbed frozen soil is also obtained. © 2011 IEEE.

Based on the previous undisturbed frozen field test, the research and analysis on the Size effect of fracture toughness KIC of vertical crack and herringbone crack of undisturbed frozen soils specimens of test I is performed emphatically, and it is found the rules that it varies with volume change. Meanwhile, a theoretical prediction by using the Gray system Theory methods is made and the theoretical prediction results KIC has been gotten, which is compared with the results of the test and the error fits the accuracy requirement. Thus it has been made a meaningful exploration for the research method of Size effect of fracture toughness KIC of test I of undisturbed frozen soils. © 2011 IEEE.

There is high requirement to the foundation of the raceway of container gantry crane. However, the marine soft soil is distributed extensively at ports. How to predict and control its settlement is a key to assure the design safety of container gantry crane. In the paper, the settlement and bearing capacity of natural and composite foundation of raceway of container gantry crane under design load is analyzed by finite element method of on the basis of geological data, foundation treatment. The relationship of different deformation modulus and foundation bearing capacity is obtained by considering the strength of foundation and the requirement of settlement. The characteristic value of bearing capacity is 150kPa, when the settle of ground arrives at 30cm. Now the inclination value of the container gantry crane is 0.17%, it is less than the permitting value of laws. The boundary of basis is easy to failure, the treatment range extension of foundation should be considered. ©2010 IEEE.

Reservoir revetment in cold regions is often damaged by frost due to the joint action of low-temperatures and cryogenic environment in *** damage reduces or even eliminates the function of the reservoir *** this paper,practical problems in engineering were analyzed for the drainage pumping station of Tuanjie *** on a traditional method of analysis and calculation,fracture mechan-ics was incorporated to provide quantitative analysis and calculation on the problem of anti-freeze damage from the viewpoint of fracture mechanics. Thus,a new idea is put forward to resolve anti-freezing of reservoir slope protection in cold regions.

Irregular wave acting on the superstructure of the perforated breakwaters is simulated through numerical wave flume. And the reflection coefficient in front of perforated structure is analysed. VOF method is utilized to solve the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equation (RANS) and the k-Ε model. In order to simulate successive long-time making wave of irregular waves and absorb the reflected waves from the perforated breakwaters, the internal source generation of wave is applied. An air state equation under the constant temperature condition is used to simulate the air pressure in the chamber when the hole of perforated plate is full of the water. According to the comparison between the numerical result and test data, it is seen that the numerical model is well verified by the experimental data. Then an empirical expression for computing the reflection coefficient is obtained from the linear regression with the main related parameters. The expressions of these empirical relations are simple and useful for actual engineering design. © 2010 by The International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).
