Kazantzakii was born in Athens Greece in 1962. He received both the Diploma and Ph.D. Degree from the Electrical Engineering Department of the National Technical University of Athens in 1986 and 1992 respectively. During the period 1992–1993 he was a member of the Staff of the Hellenic Navy Research Centre working in the area of underwater acoustics. Since 1994 he has been a researcher at the National Technical University of Athens Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Telecommunications Laboratory. His interests include data mobile and integrated services networks. Panagiotis P. Demestichas was born in Athens Greece in 1967. He received the Diploma in electrical engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) Athens in 1993. At present he is a research assistant at NTUA working towards his Ph.D. dissertation. He participated in the BRITE/EURAM-EURATN and in the RACE-TOMQAT and MONET projects. His research interests are in the areas of broadband and mobile networks queueing theory algorithms and complexity theory. He is a Member of the Technical Chamber of Greece. Miltiades E. Anagnostou was born in Athens in 1958. He received the Electrical Engineers Diploma from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 1981. During the period 1981–1987 he was a teaching assistant at NTUA. In 1987 he received his Ph.D. in the area of computer networks. In 1987–1989 he served the Greek army in the Air Force Research and Development Center. In 1989–1991 he was a Lecturer and since 1991 he has been an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Division Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the NTUA. He is currently a Research Fellow at the Centre for Satellite Research University of Surrey U.K. His research interests include multiple access protocols for VSAT networks voice/data integration in low-bit-rate networks and the use of satellites for the provision of BISDN services. Obtained a B.Sc. in Pure and Applied Physics with Electronics in 1983 and an M.Sc. in Modern Electronics in 1984 from the University of Nottingham U.K. He was a project engineer on the Corporate Data Network for the Central Electricity Generating Board U.K. and then a senior lecturer in communication systems at the University of Greenwich UK. At present he is working on his Ph.D. at the Centre for Satellite Engineering Research (CSER) University of Surrey on the performance of communication systems. Has been Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering University of Surrey since 1984. She is the author (or joint author) of more than 80 research papers. Currently she teaches courses in Telecommunication Networks and Computer Architecture. Her research interests include on-board processing for satellites protocols and performance issues. Received the BSc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Microwave Systems from the University of Leeds in 1965/1968. He was British Telecom Lecturer-Reader in Telecommunications Systems at the University of Essex from 1969–1983. In 1983 he was appointed to the Alec Harley Reeves Chair of Information Systems Engineering at the University of Surrey and in 1990 became the first Director of the post-graduate centre for Satellite Engineering Research which houses some 100 researchers. He received the B. Eng. degree in electrical engineering from Concordia University Montreal Canada in 1989. He is at present completing the M.A.Sc. degree in electrical engineering at Concordia University. (S'75–S'79–M'79–SM'86) received the Ph.D. degree from Southern Methodist University Dallas TX in 1979. He spent the next two years working as a Visiting Professor in Egypt after which he moved to Ottawa Canada in 1982. He assumed teaching and research positions in Carleton and Manitoba Univerities and later moved to Concordia University Montreal Canada in 1983 where he is now a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He has published numerous papers in IEEE and international journals in the areas of spread spectrum and networking. He is a well-known expert in these areas and serves as a consultant to many companies. His current research interests include wide-band metropolitan networks switching architectures and performance of on-board multibeam satellites acquisitionless CDMA networks code distribution and orthogonalization of CDMA signals responsive congestion control for ATM-based networks ARQ techniques and investigation of the novel SUGAR CDMA systems in fading channels.
