Q fever is a zoonotic disease caused by infection withCoxiella burnetii(***).Due to its atypical symptoms and the absence of specific detection methods,Q fever is underdiagnosed ***,we report a case of Q fever confirmed by metagenomic next-generation sequencing(mNGS)in March 2024 in Guangdong Province,*** patient initially experienced fever and was admitted to hospital six days *** a series of laboratory tests conducted at the hospital,the pathogen remained *** days after admission,mNGS revealed that the patient was infected *** patient subsequently underwent treatment with doxycycline and recovered *** investigation revealed that the patient had been exposed to sheep infected *** without any protective measures in Jiangxi Province,*** on the comprehensive results of mNGS,exposure history,clinical manifestations and treatment response,the patient was confirmed as a Q fever *** a neglected and underestimated illness,Q fever necessitates an elevation in awareness among medical staff and the *** public should be encouraged to take personal protective measures when exposed to *** research is needed to explore the rational application of mNGS in the diagnosis of uncommon and unknown diseases.

Risk factors for pertussis among children hospitalized for pertussis during 2016-2017, in Guizhou Province of China: a case-control study

U.S. Adolescents’ Exposure to Alcohol Marketing: Self-Reported Exposure on the Internet and Traditional Media

Introduction: Youth exposure to alcohol marketing is a risk factor for underage drinking. In the U.S., research documents the impact of youth exposure to alcohol marketing through traditional media (e.g., TV, radio) on underage drinking, with less known about digital alcohol marketing exposure. This study aims to examine adolescents’ self-reported exposure to alcohol marketing on various types of media, including the internet, by their demographic characteristics. Methods: Data were from the 2021 YouthStyles survey administered by Porter Novelli. Adolescents aged 12–17 years (N=833) completed this national online survey. Two multivariable logistic regression models were conducted in October 2022–April 2023 to examine exposure to alcohol marketing on 2 categories of media (watching TV, streaming videos, or going to the movies or browsing the internet). Models included race/ethnicity, age, gender, and past-week number of hours using the media category being assessed. Results: More than half of the U.S. adolescents reported being sometimes or often exposed to alcohol marketing. Hispanic adolescents had approximately 1.6 greater adjusted odds than non-Hispanic White adolescents of reporting sometimes or often being exposed to alcohol marketing while watching TV, streaming videos, or going to the movies and while browsing the internet. As adolescents’ age increased, self-reported alcohol marketing exposure also increased for both media categories assessed. Conclusions: Monitoring alcohol marketing exposure, including exposure on the internet, can inform efforts for reducing racial/ethnic disparities in underage drinking risk factors. © 2024

BACKGROUND Cognitive dysfunction is the main manifestation of central *** cognitive impairments tend to be overlooked in patients with diabetes mellitus(DM),there is a growing body of evidence linking DM to cognitive *** is closely related to neurological abnormalities,while often disregarded in clinical *** in cerebral neurotransmitter levels are associated with a variety of neurological abnormalities and may be closely related to blood glucose control in patients with type 2 DM(T2DM).AIM To evaluate the concentrations of cerebral neurotransmitters in T2DM patients exhibiting different hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)*** A total of 130 T2DM patients were enrolled at the Department of Endocrinology of Shanghai East *** participants were divided into four groups according to their HbA1c levels using the interquartile method,namely Q1(<7.875%),Q2(7.875%-9.050%),Q3(9.050%-11.200%)and Q4(≥11.200%).Clinical data were collected and measured,including age,height,weight,neck/waist/hip circumferences,blood pressure,comorbidities,duration of DM,and biochemical ***,neurotransmitters in the left hippocampus and left brainstem area were detected by proton magnetic resonance *** The HbA1c level was significantly associated with urinary microalbumin(mALB),triglyceride,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR),and beta cell function(HOMA-β),N-acetylaspartate/creatine(NAA/Cr),and NAA/choline(NAA/Cho).Spearman correlation analysis showed that mALB,LDL-C,HOMA-IR and NAA/Cr in the left brainstem area were positively correlated with the level of HbA1c(P<0.05),whereas HOMA-βwas negatively correlated with the HbA1c level(P<0.05).Ordered multiple logistic regression analysis showed that NAA/Cho[Odds ratio(OR):1.608,95%confidence interval(95%CI):1.004-2.578,P<0.05],LDL-C(OR:1.627,95%CI:1.119-2.370,P<0.05),and HOMA-IR(OR:1.107,95%CI:1.031-

One of the challenges associated with understanding environmental impacts on cancer risk and outcomes is estimating potential exposures of individuals diagnosed with cancer to adverse environmental conditions over the life course. Historically, this has been partly due to the lack of reliable measures of cancer patients' potential environmental exposures before a cancer diagnosis. The emerging sources of cancer-related spatiotemporal environmental data and residential history information, coupled with novel technologies for data extraction and linkage, present an opportunity to integrate these data into the existing cancer surveillance data infrastructure, thereby facilitating more comprehensive assessment of cancer risk and outcomes. In this paper, we performed a landscape analysis of the available environmental data sources that could be linked to historical residential address information of cancer patients' records collected by the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program. The objective is to enable researchers to use these data to assess potential exposures at the time of cancer initiation through the time of diagnosis and even after diagnosis. The paper addresses the challenges associated with data collection and completeness at various spatial and temporal scales, as well as opportunities and directions for future research. © 2024 The Author(s). China’s immunization programs conducted a unified,tightly coordinated COVID-19 vaccination campaign during the dynamic COVID Zero period that reached well over 90%of the population with vaccines having>90%effectiveness against serious-to-fatal *** campaign was eight times the size of the annual routine national immunization program,administering 3.4 billion doses of vaccines while monitoring vaccine coverage,acceptability,safety,and *** asset of the routine immunization program had to be strengthened and expanded to attain high coverage and reach hundreds of millions of adults who had not been vaccinated since *** strengthening and expansion were in directions aligned with the World Health Organization’s Immunization Agenda 2030,which has a vision that"everyone,everywhere,at every age fully benefits from vaccines for good health and well-being"and requires reaching all children,adolescents,and adults with lifesaving *** from this campaign should not be lost but should be invested into achieving what is possible with a properly resourced national immunization program that is now proven to be capable of reaching everyone in the world’s largest country throughout the life course,and to do so with all vaccines recommended by the World Health Organization.
