Presently, the topics of sensor network information sharing and multi-robot mapping in robotics have gained considerable research interest. This paper introduces a real-time map compression methodology developed to address the time-intensive problem associated with large-scale map cross-system transmission. This method employs neighborhood filtering, a modified Moore-Neighborhood tracking algorithm, and polygonal Boolean operation technology to extract the inner and outer boundaries of a 2D raster map, thereby enabling map reconstruction. The proposed methodology specifically focuses on the removal of burrs from the outer boundary and reoptimization of the inner boundary search process. This is done to enhance the efficacy of the map reconstruction. Additionally, the extracted inner and outer boundaries are utilized for the reconstruction of the map. The performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated using several types of maps. The results indicate a relatively low execution time of 300 ms for a map comprising 2 million pixels, which essentially fulfills the real-time requirements for large-scale map transmission and reconstruction. Furthermore, the quality of the map reconstruction was assessed using the Universal Image Quality Index (UIQI), Multi-Scale Structural Similarity (MS-SSIM), and Peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) image evaluation metrics. The reconstruction results reveal that the map effectively satisfies the requirements with a UIQI exceeding 0.9984, an MS-SSIM surpassing 0.9282, and a PSNR above 27.7089. Simultaneously, the map’s compression rate exceeded 99.0%, thereby demonstrating that the algorithm can accomplish a significantly high compression rate. This evidence suggests the algorithm’s potential for effective deployment in real-world applications requiring large-scale map transmission and reconstruction. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023.

The chemical industry is one of the largest consumers of fossil raw materials in the European Union (EU). Phasing out the use of fossil carbon both for energetic and material use (decarbonization/defossilization) requires the introduction of alternative processes and systems of production and consumption. One strategy that brings forward the defossilization of the chemistry sector is the use of biomass (bio-based carbon) as a raw material to produce bio-based chemical products. Our analysis focuses on the intersection of the forest-based bioeconomy, bio-based chemical production, and consumer preferences. It points out how the sustainability transition of the chemical industry changes the forest-based bioeconomy policy subsystem in the EU. Drawing on the Political process inherent Dynamics Approach (PIDA), we apply a mixed-methods research design that integrates three scientific perspectives in an interdisciplinary approach. We illustrate how shifts in forestry, the chemical industry, and consumer preferences change the forest-based bioeconomy policy subsystem. Numerous strategies and goals referring to international agreements have been introduced by the EU in recent years and new actors from the chemical industry are entering the policy subsystem. Yet, new instruments are needed and developed for the regulation of the carbon cycle and negative emissions. The study provides directions for research on the defossilization of the chemical industry through the use of forest biomass and points out potential conflicts and trade-offs in production, consumption, and regulation. © 2025 The Authors

Energy management system (EMS) is an important tool for energy efficiency and reliability of the power system. The optimal power dispatch of energy resources can be obtained using the nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC). It is formulated as an optimization problem subject to linear and nonlinear constraints. Although the existing system works well under the current conditions, power loss has not been considered. Power loss in transmission lines occurs due to their resistance and a high amount of power flow to loads connecting to the system. The power loss leads to decreased efficiency in the electrical system and reduces the lifespan of equipment because of the high temperature from loss. This paper aims to analyze the power loss in the Mae Hong Son (MHS) microgrid. To achieve the research objectives, we employ the EMS of MHS with NMPC and calculate power loss in transmission lines for a period of 7 days. EMS considers three objective functions, namely, total operating cost, total carbon dioxide emission, and combined economic and emission dispatch and take into account of three seasons consisting of rainy, winter, and summer.

The hierarchical binary CdS/NiO hollow heterogeneous architectures(HHAs)with p–n heterojunction are constructed by a facile microwave-assisted wet chemical process for high-efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)from *** as-designed CdS/NiO HHAs are composed of hexagonal n-type CdS nanoparticles with a size in the range of 20–40 nm attaching to cubic p-type NiO hollow microspheres(HMSs)which are aggregates of porous nanoplates with a thickness of about 20 *** photocatalytic water splitting over CdS/NiO HHAs is significantly increased under simulated solar irradiation,among which the most active sample of CdS/NiO-3(the mass ratio of CdS to NiO is 1:3)exhibits the fastest photocatalytic HER rate of 1.77 mmol∙g^(−1)∙h^(−1),being 16.2 times than that of pure *** boosted photocatalytic HER could be attributed to the synergistic effect on the proportional p–n heterojunction with special hierarchical hollow and porous morphology,an enhancement of visible light absorption,and an improvement of photoinduced charge separation as well as the photo-stability given by the composite *** work shows a viable strategy to design the heterojunction with special morphology for the efficient hydrogen generation by water splitting utilizing solar energy.

Optimization of Quality process control and Preventive Maintenance Strategy: A Case Study

The studied process concerns a wet grinding and cycloning unit, set up to ensure that the particle size it processes complies with the requirements in terms of pipe transport mode. Frequent shutdowns, low reliability, the risk of delivering a product with inappropriate particle size, and the lack of operational parameters’ control are all obstacles for the unit, having enormous repercussions on its relevance and performance. To improve this situation, the implementation of an innovative 5-month quality and process control study has proven crucial to establish a culture of quality among operators, aiming to achieve the targeted grain size. However, the innovative aspects of our approach lie in its thoroughness and inclusiveness since it addresses the process both qualitatively and quantitatively, focusing not only on theoretically modeling and simulating the grinding circuit but also providing an integrated method to address every component of the unit. By going through the seven stages of this study, we were able to enhance the overall performance of the unit controlling the particle size at the output. After establishing a set of quality control tools, we observed a remarkable development in mastering various parameters influencing the targeted particle size. The benefits generated by the study are extremely satisfying for the unit at different levels, particularly in terms of quality, process control, and resource optimization. Furthermore, the integration of maintenance management into the process has proven essential to ensure the reliability and sustainability of the installation, thereby contributing significantly to the overall efficiency of the unit. A classical density functional approach to depletion interaction of Lennard-Jones binary mixtures

In this article,we apply classical density functional theory to investigate the characteristics of depletion interaction in Lennard-Jones(LJ)binary fiuid ***,to confirm the validity of our adopted density functional formalism,we calculate the radial distribution functions using a theoretical approach and compare them with results obtained by molecular dynamics ***,this approach is applied to two colloids immersed in LJ solvent *** investigate the variation of depletion interaction with respect to the distance of two colloids in LJ binary *** find that depletion interaction may be attractive or repulsive,mostly depending on the bulk density of the solvent and the temperature of the binary *** high bulk densities,the repulsive barrier of depletion force is remarkable when the total excluded volume of colloids touches each other and reaches a *** height of the repulsive barrier is related to the parameters of the LJ potential and bulk ***,the depletion force may exhibit attractive wells if the bulk density of the solvent is *** attractive well tends to appear when the surface-surface distance of colloids is half of the size of the polymer and deepens with temperature lowering in a fixed bulk *** contrast with the hard-sphere system,no oscillation of depletion potential around zero is observed.

As digitalization shapes Industry 4.0, integrating software engineering practices into the manufacturing domain becomes a key focus. DevOps is such a practice and methodology that enhances collaboration and automates processes in software development and IT operations. In previous work, we discussed challenges and opportunities of applying the DevOps paradigm in Cyber-Physical Production systems (CPPS) engineering, which are complex systems that integrate physical components with computer-controlled operations. This paper instantiates our DevOps4CPPS framework, spotlighting the application of GitOps and microservices in a CPPS environment. A real-world case study from laser ultra short pulse manufacturing illustrates how the approach effectively addresses the inherent challenges of CPPS, boosting agility and operational performance, while reducing downtime. The paper provides guidance to researchers and practitioners on applying DevOps practices to CPPS, and suggests future research directions. © 2023 IEEE.
