In this paper, a distributed control scheme based on population games is proposed. The controller is in charge of dealing with the energy consumption problem in a Heterogeneous Cellular Network (HetNet) powered by hybrid energy sources (grid and renewable energy) while guaranteeing appropriate quality of service (QoS) level at the same time. Unlike the conventional approach in population games, it considers both atomicity and non-anonymity. Simulation results show that the proposed population-games approach reduces grid consumption by up to about 12% compared to the traditional best-signal level association policy. © 2018 AACC.

For the lack of process data of the Gas-Steam combined cycle power plant in initial operating stage, this article presents a method for the output power prediction of CCPP using the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy process(FAHP). Firstly, based on the analysis of the main factors that affect the CCPP output, a hierarchical structure for the prediction of CCPP output is established by combining with Analytical Hierarchy process and calculating weight vectors according to experts' experience. Then, analyze and correct the operating characteristic curves of CCPP, which will be taken as the input and output membership functions. Finally, the output prediction model can be established, and the effectiveness of output prediction model of CCPP based on improved FAHP is demonstrated by the data set from a real case.

Biomass concentration is an important indicator of production rate in polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) fermentation process. In current practice, measurement of biomass concentration is done off-line by laboratory analysis that is unsuitable for online process monitoring and control. Soft-sensor is often used as an alternative that provides an estimate of hard to measure parameters from easy to measure process data. However, most of these studies use simulated data or data generated from mathematical model that was developed without full consideration of process and measurement uncertainty. In this study, a soft-sensor is developed from real production data for PHA fermentation in pilot-scale bioreactor with the appropriate data pre-processing techniques applied to process data that was obtained from this system. Multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural network is used to estimate biomass concentration using secondary process parameters such as dissolved oxygen (DO), temperature, pH and agitation speed as inputs. Different models are developed based on different batches of production data and various network architecture in order to study the appropriate integration of process data and network topology that gives the best model accuracy. Results indicate that the biomass soft-sensor developed using MLP-ANN provides a better estimate of biomass in comparison to radial basis function (RBF) neural network and support vector regression (SVR) methods. The developed soft-sensor can be further used in monitoring and control of production output.

This paper investigates cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) of vehicles, focusing on the effect of medium access control (MAC) protocol and the inaccurate acceleration measurement. A Markov chain is used to describe the randomness in vehicular network access under a MAC protocol;a reduced-order observer is proposed to estimate the relative acceleration of neighboring vehicles. Based on stochastic system techniques, a series of sufficient conditions are given in the form of backward recursive Riccati Difference Equations (RDE) to guarantee the stable tracking error. Numerical simulations are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2018 IEEE.

The modularization of process plants is an approach to cope with the changing requirements of the process industry, such as highly volatile markets and shorter product lifecycles. Each module offers services as encapsulated process functions to the superior control system for the orchestration. These services are controlled in a state-based way. The encapsulation of these services in a reasonable way is a difficult task, because aspects of process and automation engineering must be considered. This contribution introduces an approach for the encapsulation of process functions in services from an automation point of view. Furthermore, the operation modes of modules, services and field devices are discussed. Additionally, possible solutions for the orchestration based on recipe models are introduced. The developed concepts have been tested within a simulation environment.

Oil–water two-phase flow patterns in a horizontal pipe are analyzed with a 16-electrode electrical resistance tomography(ERT) system. The measurement data of the ERT are treated as a multivariate time-series, thus the information extracted from each electrode represents the local phase distribution and fraction change at that location. The multivariate maximum Lyapunov exponent(MMLE) is extracted from the 16-dimension time-series to demonstrate the change of flow pattern versus the superficial velocity ratio of oil to water. The correlation dimension of the multivariate time-series is further introduced to jointly characterize and finally separate the flow patterns with MMLE. The change of flow patterns with superficial oil velocity at different water superficial velocities is studied with MMLE and correlation dimension, respectively, and the flow pattern transition can also be characterized with these two features. The proposed MMLE and correlation dimension map could effectively separate the flow patterns, thus is an effective tool for flow pattern identification and transition analysis.

This paper presents designing of output feedback nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) for nonlinear systems. NMPC employs the state feedback and updates the control input at each sampling step. The control design of NMPC is formulated as optimal control which requires the information of states of the process. However, in practice, we can measure only some states of the process. This paper aims to use the state observer to estimate the unknown states and use them as feedback for NMPC. We apply output feedback NMPC to inverted pendulum on cart. Numerical results show the response of output feedback NMPC asymptotically converges to that of state feedback NMPC.

This paper studies the controllability of networked multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) systems, in which the network topology is weighted and directed, and the nodes are heterogeneous higher-dimensional linear time-invariant (LTI) dynamical systems. The primary objective is to search for controllability criteria beyond those already known for homogeneous networks. The focus is on the effects of the network topology, node dynamics, external control inputs, as well as the inner interactions on the network controllability. It is found that a network of heterogeneous systems can be controllable even if the corresponding homogeneous network topology is uncontrollable. The finding thus unravels another fundamental property that affects the network controllability—the heterogeneity of the node dynamics. A necessary and sufficient condition is derived for the controllability of heterogeneous networked MIMO LTI systems. In this paper, we study the problem of finding the least square solutions of over-determined linear algebraic equations over networks in a distributed manner. Each node has access to one of the linear equations and holds a dynamic state. We first propose a distributed least square solver over connected undirected interaction graphs and establish a necessary and sufficient on the step-size under which the algorithm exponentially converges to the least square solution. Next, we develop a distributed least square solver over strongly connected directed graphs and show that the proposed algorithm exponentially converges to the least square solution provided the step-size is sufficiently small. Moreover, we develop a finite-time least square solver by equipping the proposed algorithms with a finite-time decentralized computation mechanism.
