Based on the electromagnetic induction theory, the process of electromagnetic tomography is described as follows, exciting magnetic field is produced by alternating current which is injected into electromagnetic sensor array at the boundary of object field, and the induced magnetic field, which is affected by exciting magnetic field, is aroused in the electrical or magnetic conductive objects. The exciting and induced magnetic fields superimpose together, and this superposition signal reflects the distribution of conductivity or permeability in the harmonic magnetic field. Through the harmonic field, induced voltage would be acquired from the coils, who act as detected ones. By measuring voltage signal from detected coils at the boundary of object field, the conductivity or permeability information can be accessed and the spatial distribution images of the object space can be reconstructed. Comparing with the compound electrodes excitation strategy from others electrical tomography, distinct excitation strategies are proposed in electromagnetic tomography system. The finite-element simulation software, COMSOL Multiphysics, is used to simulate the output condition of three different strategies, and simulated results provide theoretical basing in system reconstructed optimization.

In recent years, fault prediction method, which means forecast process fault in an early time based on the current condition of the system, has attracted more and more attention by companies and scientists. However, it still has many problems in this area, especially for its application in industrial process. In the present work, a multi-step ahead fault prediction method combining principle component analysis, empirical mode decomposition and extreme learning machine are developed to realize early prediction of fault. The application of the presented method is illustrated with respect to simulated data collected from the Tennessee Eastman process. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

As a kind of visual measurement technique based upon variations in conductivity, electrical resistance tomography has great potential in process application. A new data acquisition system for electrical resistance tomography is described. This data acquisition system is built based on the CompactPCI bus and the FPGA. The application of the CompactPCI bus can make the single plane electrical resistance tomography system extended and upgraded easily to multi-plane by adding additional CompactPCI cards and simple changes of configuration in FPGA chips and software in host computer. Besides, the injecting method and strategy can be controlled flexibly by FPGA. Meanwhile, the desired signals are measured and processed using digital signal processing technique in FPGA chips. This approach allows the system flexible, fast and precise. The new data acquisition system is tested in laboratory, the speed of the system can reach more than 1500 frame/s at the 100kHz sine wave injecting signal, even faster at higher frequency;the Signal-to-Noise ratio of the system can reach above 73dB.

The digital FIR filter is widely used in electronic instruments. It is the time delay of the filter that affects the real-time performance of the conventional ERT system. This paper discusses the advantages of applying the distributed digital FIR filter in ERT system. Compared with the traditional filter, both the SNR and the channel consistence were improved to some extent. More importantly, the real-time performance has been improved;especially the data acquisition rate is increased from 600 frames per second to 1040 frames per second for the sixteen electrode system.

Robust H∞ output feedback control problem for a class of switched linear discrete-time systems possessing norm-bounded uncertainty and time-varying delay is investigated. A switched dynamic output feedback controller is sought that can robust exponentially stabilize and reduce to a prescribed level the effect of disturbance input on the controlled output in the closed loop. A delay-dependent linear matrix inequality based sufficient condition for the problem to be solvable is derived via the switched Lyapunov functions. controller design is performed by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities. An illustrative example along with simulation results is given to demonstrate the validity of these novel derivations. © 2011 Chamber of Turkish Electric.

The robust H∞ control problem for a class of uncertain switched linear systems by using the variable structure control is investigated. A robust H∞ single sliding surface is shown to exist as long as a convex combination of the subsystems of the switched system is robustly stabilizable with disturbance attenuation level γ. A switching law is constructed via the single Lyapunov function technique. Variable structure controllers of subsystems are designed so as the resulting closed-loop system guarantees the robust H∞ performance. An illustrative example and simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method. © 2011 Chamber of Turkish Electric.

This paper investigates the problem of non-fragile static output feedback control (SOF) design for discrete-time linear systems. Interval type of additive gain variations to reflect imprecision in controller implementation is considered. The non-fragile SOF controller design is firstly formulated as a robust convex problem. Then a deterministic algorithm and a randomized one are proposed to solve the obtained robust convex problem. These two algorithms complements each other. The deterministic algorithm is suitable for systems with low dimensions, while the randomized one is applicable for systems with high dimensions. In addition, the randomized algorithm can alleviate the conservatism of the deterministic one. Two examples are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The fault diagnosis performance of Fisher Discriminant Analysis(FDA) method is superior to Principle Component Analysis(PCA) by taking into account both normal and fault data for modeling. For the cases with insufficient fault data, a diagnosis strategy is developed based on Bootstrap and phase-based Recursive Multi-way Fisher Discriminant Analysis(RMFDA). By this method, modeling data was constructed by Bootstrap. Besides, the diagnosis information of the previous phase was introduced in the next phase for MFDA modeling by combining recursive method. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by applying it to the hydraulic tube tester.

This paper develops a hierarchical gradient-based iterative estimation algorithm for multi-input multi-output output error moving average (OEMA-like) models. In order to solve the difficulties that the noise-free outputs and the noise terms in the information vector/matrix of the corresponding identification model are unmeasurable, we replace the unknown variables in the information vector/matrix with their estimates. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Recursive partial least squares (RPLS) regression is effectively used in process monitoring and modeling to deal with the stronger collinearity of the process variables and slow time-varying property of industrial processes. Aim at the RPLS cannot solve the modeling speed and the accuracy problems effectively, a modified sample-wise RPLS algorithm is proposed in this paper. It updates the PLS model according to the process status. We use the approximate linear dependence (ALD) condition to check each new sample. The model is reconstructed recursively such that the new samples satisfy the ALD condition. Experimental study on modeling parameters of ball mill load shows that the proposed modified RPLS algorithm is computationally faster, and the modeling accuracy is higher than conventional RPLS for the time-varying process. © 2011 Chinese Assoc of Automati.
