The exponential growth of academic publications has made scholarly research recommender systems indispensable tools for researchers. These systems rely on diverse evaluation metrics to assess their effectiveness and relevance. This paper provides a comprehensive review and analysis of these metrics, categorizing them into accuracy, ranking, diversity, user-centric, coverage, temporal, and computational metrics. By employing a mixed-methods approach, combining systematic literature review and empirical analysis, we identify the prevalence and application of these metrics across various scholarly domains such as literature, conferences, and reviewers. Our findings highlight the widespread use of traditional metrics like precision, recall, and Fl-score, while emphasizing the growing importance of novel metrics such as unexpectedness and serendipity, especially in literature and conference recommendations. We also underscore the domain-specific nature of metric selection, with user-centric evaluations more prominent in literature recommendations, and ranking-focused metrics dominant in conference and reviewer recommendations. Furthermore, the study reveals a significant gap in the use of temporal and computational metrics, suggesting key areas for future research. This review offers valuable insights for researchers and practitioners, guiding them in metric selection and highlighting potential directions for enhancing the effectiveness, adaptability, and user satisfaction of scholarly recommender systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Home Energy Management systems (HEMS) equip users with additional control over their energy consumption, allowing them to schedule economically how their appliances may be used. The essence of HEMS is to provide energy and cost saving while avoiding user inconvenience. A significantly high number of the proposed HEMS solutions in literature are focused mainly on developing algorithms for appliance scheduling while putting less emphasis on the selection of the appropriate technologies and modelling techniques. Moreover, the current rise of the internet-of-Things (IoT) and low-cost microcontroller hardware present further opportunities for development of better HEMS. This work contributes to the study of HEMS in three ways. Firstly, it proposes an IoT-based HEMS framework. Secondly, it provides a brief comparison suitable for low-cost computing hardware. Lastly, it presents design considerations necessary for implementing HEMS. The analysis shows that the considerations must review available Demand-side management programmes, communication technologies and energy driving variables. © 2021 IEEE.

Appliances in home networks come in various types and models. Homes are fitted with smart televisions, fridges, speakers and even smart locks. All these interact in a smart home area network and many store data in the cloud. The security risks of these devices include all risks involved with the collection of the data, the transmission of the data and the cloud storage of the data. Unauthorised user access may lead to disastrous consequences for the home owner. Home owners are not aware of the risks posed by the technical specifications of their latest appliance. When these seemingly different devices are investigated from a theoretical computer science architecture perspective, they share a layered architectural design, comprising of a perception layer, network layer, support layer and an application layer. This paper explores the security risks and threats from this architectural perspective. The theoretical investigation is supported by an empirical investigation of manufacture release documents and product reviewer documents using data from document and content analysis. The findings of the paper show how the network architecture design of the device along with specific design decisions of manufacturers impact the security risk of the device for the home owner. © 2022 IEEE.

The distributed nonconvex optimization problem of minimizing a global cost function formed by a sum of n local cost functions by using local information exchange is *** problem is an important component of many machine learning techniques with data parallelism,such as deep learning and federated *** propose a distributed primal-dual stochastic gradient descent(SGD)algorithm,suitable for arbitrarily connected communication networks and any smooth(possibly nonconvex)cost *** show that the proposed algorithm achieves the linear speedup convergence rate O(1/(√nT))for general nonconvex cost functions and the linear speedup convergence rate O(1/(nT)) when the global cost function satisfies the Polyak-Lojasiewicz(P-L)condition,where T is the total number of *** also show that the output of the proposed algorithm with constant parameters linearly converges to a neighborhood of a global *** demonstrate through numerical experiments the efficiency of our algorithm in comparison with the baseline centralized SGD and recently proposed distributed SGD algorithms.

The visual recognition of sheet metal parts is a crucial component of industrial automation sorting, particularly under complex lighting and background interference conditions. To enhance the accuracy of sheet metal part recognition, this paper curates a dataset of sheet metal parts acquired by an intelligent light field image sensor and proposes a visual recognition model, PA-CBAM, based on an improved Mask R-CNN. By improving the original feature pyramid FPN and introducing the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM), the model enhances multi-scale feature fusion and the focus on key features: (1) Bottom up paths and shortcut connections have been added between different layers of the traditional FPN feature pyramid, thereby improving multi-scale object detection capability. (2) CBAM further optimizes the model's channel and spatial attention mechanisms, effectively enhancing the capture of edge details and the suppression of background noise. Experimental results show that the proposed PA-CBAM model significantly improves detection and segmentation performance compared to traditional methods, particularly in terms of edge recognition accuracy for sheet metal parts under complex lighting conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

The lithium-ion battery is increasingly critical in the fields of electric vehicles and sustainable energy. Accurate prediction of the Remaining Useful Life (RUL) of lithium-ion batteries is essential to mitigate risks and minimize potential losses. This paper introduces a novel fusion algorithm, FPSOGWO, which combines Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) with an enhanced Circle chaos strategy and a random adaptive weighting strategy. The FPSOGWO algorithm, integrated with Support Vector Regression (FPSOGWO-SVR), was utilized to predict the RUL of health factors in lithium batteries. Compared to other optimization algorithms, FPSOGWO exhibits superior optimization speed and value, effectively overcoming issues of local optimality. Specifically, when benchmarked against the Whale Optimization Algorithm-SVR (WOA-SVR), the R-Square values of FPSOGWO-SVR showed improvements of 15.62%, 1.28%, 5.67%, and 10.65% across four different types of batteries. Experimental results demonstrate that FPSOGWO-SVR provides more accurate RUL predictions for lithium batteries, highlighting its potential for broader application in battery health management systems. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

The article deals with the navigation system elements development process. The movement and positioning of a two-wheeled mobile robot with a high level of accuracy are realized through this system. Also, the algorithms mechanisms based on the construction of the optimal path for the autonomous device movement and based on a map building in an unknown area and avoiding obstacles are described. Using mathematical models, computer modeling of the device executive system is carried out using the engineering program MatLab. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

In terms of surface defect detection of glazed tiles, there are problems such as false detection and insufficient ability to identify small target defects due to the rich texture on the surface of glazed tiles. In response to these challenges, this article has compiled a dataset of glazed ceramic tiles and proposed an improved algorithm ECANet-FPG based on Faster R-CNN. Due to the similarity in texture and defects on the surface of ceramic tiles, this algorithm introduces the Efficient Channel Attention (ECA) module into the feature extraction network of Faster R-CNN to enhance the ability to extract deep features. At the same time, a Feature Pyramid Grids (FPG) structure is adopted to achieve efficient fusion of multi-scale features, in order to improve the recognition accuracy of small target defects. The experimental results show that the improved algorithm achieves higher detection accuracy and efficiency than the baseline model, demonstrating its effectiveness and practicality in detecting surface defects on glazed ceramic tiles.
