The basic structural and functional element of a belt conveyor is the conveyor belt, which is supported by carrying rollers. Research in this area is important for increasing the service life of mining belt conveyor components. The rollers are subject to various forms of wear. Tribological interactions between the roller, the conveyor belt, and the particles of the transported material or impurities from the environment that enter the tribological system cause various forms of mechanical wear. Abrasion is the predominant type of wear for a given friction node. Abrasive wear causes tearing and cutting of the surface of the rollers. Moreover, they are also subject to chemical wear, namely corrosion of the damaged steel shells of the rollers. The combination of the individual types of wear led to damage that affected the thickness of the roller shell and its basic mechanical property, namely Vickers hardness. In this paper, non-destructive testing methods were applied, while the hardness was determined by the UCI (Ultrasonic Contact Impedance) method and the shell thickness was determined by the ultrasonic method. © 2024 International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. Transport by mine hoisting equipment is used to remove excavated materials, deliver materials, machinery, and equipment required for the mining process and related activities, as well as transport persons. These technological devices use transport containers to pull the load in the form of a skip, cage, or skip-cage from underground to the surface. Mining machines are intended for vertical and inclined pits. Scientific research discussed in the present article focuses on the transport capacity of the mine hoisting equipment in mining minerals. The article applies a mathematical calculation of transport capacity on the base simulation. A simulation model was created in the ExtendSim10 simulation system. ExtendSim10 combines discrete and continuous simulation possibilities and is used by researchers in various fields. The output from the simulation model (number of transport cycles) serves as the basis for the capacity determination. The simulation model can be used to verify the results obtained by calculation based on available mathematical relationships or measurements obtained during operation. © 2024 International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. Efficient determination and expansion of transport capacity is now becoming crucial for the economic growth and efficient management of any business in the transport sector. The aim of investing in transport is to create beneficial social effects such as reducing transport costs, reducing travel times, eliminating accidents or other adverse environmental impacts of transport. By evaluating the specific steps of applying the CBA (Cost-Benefit Analysis) methodology to address fuel consumption in a company's transport infrastructure using a model project as an example, we can determine its role in determining an effective investment project solution. A comprehensive analysis of the CBA methodology and its implementation on a specific project, focusing on the calculation of fuel consumption using available data and traffic surveys, brought a new dimension of data analysis. Using the software, we investigated how the selected factors affect fuel consumption and the economic viability of the project. The comprehensiveness of conducting cost-benefit analyses served as a basis for decision making and investment decisions in accordance with the CBA methodology. © 2024 IEEE.

The automotive catalysts contain significant quantities of platinum group metals, namely, platinum, palladium, and rhodium, depending on the specific catalyst type used. This attribute positions them as potential reservoirs of these rare metals. The primary goal of this discussion is to familiarize individuals with catalysts in a broader context, encompassing their historical importance and particularly exploring various methods to extract and utilize these valuable metals. The article primarily focuses on the theoretical aspects of handling depleted catalysts, exploring both pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical methods. Platinum-group metals (PGM) are incredibly rare and challenging to obtain on Earth, presenting a substantial risk of potential supply deficits. Despite this challenge, their significance remains pivotal for both the European Union and the automotive industry. It’s noteworthy that not every catalyst available in the market is efficiently recyclable, primarily due to the absence of these valuable metallic components. These discussed automotive catalysts, therefore, provide an avenue for recycling precious metals and concurrently serve as a crucial resource for treating automotive exhaust gases. This subject holds a critical role in today’s landscape, especially concerning sustainable utilization of natural resources and reducing environmental impact. Given the contemporary global focus on environmental sustainability, it’s crucial to explore innovative extraction and recycling approaches for these scarce metals. Seeking novel methodologies that minimize energy consumption while optimizing metal acquisition efficiency poses a challenge for industry and scientific research alike. Progressive technologies and innovative solutions are frequent subjects of improving management processes in the construction industry. Building information modeling presents opportunities to digitize this environment as well. These technologies facilitate work with data and thus contribute to better information, based on which correct decisions can be made and project management. The research is focused on the use of building information modeling (BIM) technology in the management of construction projects and also analyzes the possible impacts on the key performance indicators of these projects. Effectiveness and performance are possible ways to measure the appropriateness of implementing and using digital tools such as BIM. The research aims to map the level of use of BIM technology in three countries where the construction industry and the construction market are approximately similar based on the production volume. The research sample is representative of projects implemented in these countries. Research data were obtained through questionnaires and interviews with project managers, who were asked to fill in the questionnaire in the same way. Data quantification was based on the Likert scale. Within the definition of cost indicators, the research focuses on operational indirect costs, i.e., sales, communication, and administrative costs. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

This article focuses on the utilization of educational robots in the process of design and education, as well as in the creation of automated workplaces. Current advancements in technology, referred to as Industry 4.0 or Industry 5.0, bring forth new possibilities in logistics management and the implementation of autonomous systems into practical use. These innovations create space for utilizing educational robots in teaching and in modeling work environments that correspond to real conditions in industries. The article highlights the necessity of employing educational robots in the creation of automated workplaces. As robotics and automation continue to progress, simulating robotic workplaces becomes a crucial part of developing manufacturing processes. To accurately model these workplaces, the use of educational robots, faithfully representing elements found in actual manufacturing operations, is indispensable. The primary goal is to create a functional model of a robotized workplace in a laboratory setting using educational robots and their components. This model serves as a physical demonstration of logistics flows on a reduced scale and allows simulation of real work environments in various industry sectors. The current research institute at the BERG Faculty possesses educational robots and actively endeavors to integrate these resources into research efforts, aiming to enhance the efficiency of the teaching process. In terms of the technological aspect of research, the objective is to develop autonomous systems with the assistance of educational robots and to model workplaces like real industry settings. The paper addresses the sustainability of technological transport, specifically the transport of materials by pipe conveyors. Environmental aspects must also be addressed as part of the solution to the sustainability of pipe conveyors. Pipe conveyors are suitable for the efficient transport of large volumes of bulk material with a minimum of environmental pollution. Closed rubber conveyor belts are a basic structural element of pipe conveyors. These types of conveyor belts have to resist a combination of factors such as abrasion, heat, frost, chemicals, oil, burning, ozone and ultraviolet radiation. These requirements are associated with an almost confusing range of test methods and quality standards set by the standard setters of the Committee of European Standardization and the International Organization for Standardization. The main purpose of the paper is to create a concept of product quality subsystem of pipeline transport with closed rubber conveyor belts, taking into account the factors acting on the conveyor belt during its operation with the specification of methods suitable for testing their quality. The principles of system analysis are applied by creating a system. After formulating the problem, the system is defined and the basic quality factors of the conveyor belts are identified. This is followed by a general analysis of quality factors and a synthesis of the knowledge gained. © 2022 International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. All rights reserved.

Due to technological and system developments, companies must constantly improve their production systems and processes. Production planning and control help to implement these changes and evaluate them based on correctly chosen methods. Production planning depends on customer demand. It is a process that ensures sufficient raw materials, labour, and resources to produce finished products according to a set plan and, simultaneously, manages these processes to be carried out on time and quality. With the help of a production plant, the company can streamline the flow of processes, ensure the purchase of material, and minimize costs and production time. Based on the analysis of the selected company, a proposal was adopted for streamlining the production process and operations. The research aimed to adopt solutions for the implementation of efficient production with sufficiently high-quality products, satisfied customers and employees with maximum efforts to gain and maintain a stable position of the company in the market. Through the proposed implementation of an information system for the management and operation of medium and large enterprises ERP ABRA Gen, the surveyed company can effectively plan and manage all processes "in one" to connect all work sections.
