Size-induced axial segregation of binary mixtures in rotating drum of different lengths

This study investigates the size-induced axial segregation of binary mixtures in rotating drums, particularly focusing on the effect of drum length. The results indicate that long drums require more time to achieve stable segregation and form more segregation bands. The core region under the free bed surface remains predominantly filled with small particles, indicating that radial segregation occurs simultaneously with the axial segregation. The angle of repose of large particle bands is consistently greater than that of small particle bands, which drives the migration of large particles. Short drums are more sensitive to changes in rotational speed, while long drums with moderate rotational speed promote the formation of segregation bands. The width of small particle bands shows an increasing–decreasing-stabilizing trend with the drum length increasing. An analysis of particle velocities reveals that the characteristics of segregation bands are closely related to the relative velocity difference between large and small particles. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Method of Calculating Lake Water Storage in Areas without Topographical Data Based on Google Earth Engine

Accurate ecological lake water calculation plays an important role in maintaining ecological health of and protecting lakes. However, the lack of topographical data for the bottom of the lake results in some complexity to the calculation of ecological lake water storage. This study uses remote sensing big data to overcome the data limitations of water calculations and accurately calculates the ecological water storage of Baiyangdian Lake. The results show that the water surface area of Baiyangdian Lake can be divided into a dry period (average water area of 7.15 km2), a decline period (155.64 km2), a stable period (67.29 km2), and a recovery period (119.17 km2). The ecological water storage of the lake has evolved from 200 million m3 to the current 300–600 million m3. This study provides an important reference for the ecological lake water calculations when topographical data is not available and for lakes with complex bottom topography.

Receding horizon control(RHC) gains much attention in industry owing to its merits that it is able to tackle explicitly the constrained and multi-variable optimization problem. However, a remarkable drawback of RHC is the heavy commutating load of the on-line solver algorithm, especially for nonlinear optimization problem. Hence, rare implementation can be found in engineering practice with a ‘fast‘ control system. To overcome this issue, some numerical solvers have been developed to improve the real-time performance of the optimization calculation, wherein the C/GMRES(Continuation/General Minimum Residual)algorithm gains bonus on its successful applications on fast control system. This tutorial paper proposes a brief introduction about C/GMRES algorithm, and then focuses on its applications to automotive powertrain control, including engine torque control, speed control, and energy management of hybrid electric vehicle(HEV). The control effects and real-time performance are validated by simulation and bench tests.

Aiming at the structure and accuracy of the single pump valve core grinder, the working process and structural characteristics of the core of the single pump were analyzed in this paper. The general structural design scheme of the grinder with the "L" type lathe bed and the high-precision motorized spindle as the sand wheel shaft and the CBN grinding wheel was put forward. Through the analysis of the grinding error, determine the error distribution principle. According to the characteristics of valve structure, characteristics and precision grinding, the errors are decomposed. And then, ultimately determine the range of error, to ensure that the total error can meet the processing requirements of grinder, laid the foundation for the following detailed design. © 2018, North Atlantic University Union. Distribution of bacterial communities across plateau freshwater lake and upslope soils

Microorganisms are involved in a variety of biogeochemical processes in natural *** differences between bacterial communities in freshwaters and upslope soils remain unclear. The present study investigated the bacterial distribution in a plateau freshwater lake,Erhai Lake（southwestern China）, and its upslope soils. Illumina MiS eq sequencing illustrated high bacterial diversity in lake sediments and soils. Sediment and soil bacterial communities were mainly composed of Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, Actinobacteria,Bacteroidetes, Chloroflexi and Planctomycetes. However, a distinctive difference in bacterial community structure was found between soil and sediment ecosystems. Water content, nitrogen and p H affected the distribution of the bacterial community across Erhai Lake and its upslope soils. Moreover, the soil bacterial community might also be shaped by plant types. This work could provide some new insights into plateau aquatic and terrestrial microbial ecology.

Research on Durability of Recycled Ceramic Powder Concrete

Ceramic was ground into powder with 325 mesh and used to prepare for concrete. Basic mechanical properties, carbonation and chloride ion penetration of the concrete tests were conducted. In addition, 6-hour electric fluxes of recycled ceramic powder concrete were measured under loading. The results showed that the age strength of ceramics powder concrete is higher than that of the ordinary concrete and the fly ash concrete. The ceramic powder used as admixture would reduce the strength of concrete under no consideration of its impact factor; under consideration of the impact factor for ceramic powder as admixture, the carbonation resistance of ceramic powder concrete was significantly improved, and the 28 day carbonation depth of the ceramic powder concrete was only 31.5% of ordinary concrete. The anti-chloride-permeability of recycled ceramic powder concrete was excellent.

simulation of Corrosion process for Structure with the Cellular Automata Method

In this paper, from the mesoscopic point of view, under the assumption of metal corrosion damage evolution being a diffusive process, the cellular automata (CA) method was proposed to simulate numerically the uniform corrosion damage evolution of outer steel tube of concrete filled steel tubular columns subjected to corrosive environment, and the effects of corrosive agent concentration, dissolution probability and elapsed etching time on the corrosion damage evolution were also investigated. It was shown that corrosion damage increases nonlinearly with increasing elapsed etching time, and the longer the etching time, the more serious the corrosion damage; different concentration of corrosive agents had different impacts on the corrosion damage degree of the outer steel tube, but the difference between the impacts was very small; the heavier the concentration, the more serious the influence. The greater the dissolution probability, the more serious the corrosion damage of the outer steel tube, but with the increase of dissolution probability, the difference between its impacts on the corrosion damage became smaller and smaller. To validate present method, corrosion damage measurements for concrete filled square steel tubular columns (CFSSTCs) sealed at both their ends and immersed fully in a simulating acid rain solution were conducted, and Faraday's law was used to predict their theoretical values. Meanwhile, the proposed CA mode was applied for the simulation of corrosion damage evolution of the CFSSTCs. It was shown by the comparisons of results from the three methods aforementioned that they were in good agreement, implying that the proposed method used for the simulation of corrosion damage evolution of concrete filled steel tubular columns is feasible and effective. It will open a new approach to study and evaluate further the corrosion damage, loading capacity and lifetime prediction of concrete filled steel tubular structures.
