Two-tier control structure design methodology applied to heat exchanger networks

Because of its paramount importance in the successful industrial control strategy of a given heat exchanger network(HEN),the control structure designs for providing appropriate manipulated variable(MV)and controlled variable pairings have received considerable ***,quite frequently HENs with such control structures face the problem of hard constraints,typically holding the HENs at less controlled operating *** both the MV pairings and the above control pairings should be considered to design a control *** paper investigates the systematic incorporation of the two pairings,and presents a methodology for designing such two-tier control *** is developed based on the sequential strategy,coupling an indirect-tier with direct-tier control structure design,wherein the intention is realized in the former stage and the latter is implemented for further *** MV identification and pairing are achieved through variations in heat load of heat exchangers to design the indirect-tier control *** the direct-tier control structure is followed the relative gain array pairing *** the proposed methodology,on the one hand,it generates an explicit connection between the MV pairings and the HEN configuration,and the quantitative interaction measure is improved to avoid the multiple solutions to break the relationship among all the control pairings into individuals;on the other hand,a two-tier control structure reveals control potentials and control system design requirements,this may avoid complex and economically unfavourable control and HEN *** application of proposed framework is illustrated with two cases involving the dynamic simulation analysis,the quantitative assessment and the random test.

In the present work,nanoporous carbon(NPC)was prepared from a metal-organic framework(zeolite imidazolate framework 8,ZIF-8).Different concentrations of graphene oxide(GO)were used to make NPC/reduced graphene oxide(NPC/rGO-x,x=0.5,1.0,1.5,and 2.0)composites,and thenγ-MnS/NPC/rGO-1 composite was synthesized via a simple hydrothermal *** electrochemical characteristics of porous carbon composites(NPC/rGO-x)andγ-MnS/NPC/rGO-1 electrodes were investigated by galvanostatic charge and discharge,cyclic voltammetry,and electrochemical impedance ***/rGO-1 showed the highest specific capacitance of 207 F/g at 0.5 A/***,theγ-MnS/NPC/rGO-1 electrode demonstrates exceptional electrochemical performance with a high specific capacitance of 300 F/g at 0.5 A/g and impressive cyclic stability of 70%capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles at 1 A/*** a result,this study demonstrates thatγ-MnS/NPC/rGO-1 electrode can be considered a promising candidate for high-performance supercapacitors.

Adaptive Model Compression for Efficient Federated Learning in IoT systems

Federated learning (FL), as an emerging collaborative learning paradigm, offers a promising solution to tackle learning challenges in IoT environments. However, the inherent mechanism of FL often results in significant communication overhead, which poses challenges in resource-constrained IoT systems. Moreover, most existing model compression methods struggle to balance model accuracy and compression ratio effectively with low resource consumption: excessive compression degrades accuracy, while insufficient compression incurs high communication overhead. To address this issue, we propose adaMC, an adaptive model compression algorithm for FL in IoT systems. This method integrates two types of network models: main and auxiliary networks. The auxiliary networks generate optimal sparsification strategies to guide the corresponding layers in the main network to become sparse. To ensure robust performance, we develop a bias correction method that guarantees both model accuracy and convergence, accompanied by a theoretical analysis. Experimental results on widely used deep learning models and public datasets demonstrate that our adaMC method is effective, achieving competitive performance compared to FL without compression. © 2014 IEEE.

When we apply field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) as HPC accelerators, their memory bandwidth presents a significant challenge because it is not comparable to those of other HPC accelerators. In this paper, we propose a memory system for HBM2-equipped FPGAs and HPC applications that uses block RAMs as an addressable cache implemented between HBM2 and an application. This architecture enables data transfer between HBM2 and the cache bulk and allows an application to utilize fast random access on BRAMs. This study demonstrates the implementation and performance evaluation of our new memory system for HPC and HBM2 on an FPGA. Furthermore, we describe the API that can be used to control this system from the host. We implement RISC-V cores in an FPGA as controllers to realize fine-grain data transfer control and to prevent overheads derived from the PCI Express bus. The proposed system is implemented on eight memory channels and achieves 102.7 GB/s of the bandwidth. It overcomes the memory bandwidth of conventional FPGA boards with four channels of DDR4 memory despite using only 8 of 32 channels of the HBM2. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Single-atom catalysts(SACs)attract widespread attention in heterogeneous catalysis due to their maximum atomic utilization efficiency and unique physical and chemical ***,their applications in chemical sensing keep huge potential but remain ***,a Ni-N_(4)-C SAC was synthesized for the trace detection of dopamine(DA)and uric acid(UA).The Ni-N_(4)-C SAC exhibited superior sensing performance compared to the Ni *** detection range for DA and UA were 0.05–75μM and 5–90μM with detection limits of 0.027 and 0.82μM,*** functional theory(DFT)computations indicate that Ni-N_(4)-C has a lower reaction barrier during electrochemical process,indicating that the atomic Ni sites possess higher intrinsic activity than Ni ***,DA and UA show strong potential dependency on the Ni-N_(4)-C catalyst,indicating its applicability for their concurrent *** work extends the application of SACs in chemical sensing.

The positive definiteness of real quadratic forms with convolution structures plays an important rolein stability analysis for time-stepping schemes for nonlocal operators. In this work, we present a novel analysistool to handle discrete convolution kernels resulting from variable-step approximations for convolution *** precisely, for a class of discrete convolution kernels relevant to variable-step L1-type time discretizations, weshow that the associated quadratic form is positive definite under some easy-to-check algebraic conditions. Ourproof is based on an elementary constructing strategy by using the properties of discrete orthogonal convolutionkernels and discrete complementary convolution kernels. To our knowledge, this is the first general result onsimple algebraic conditions for the positive definiteness of variable-step discrete convolution kernels. Using theunified theory, we obtain the stability for some simple nonuniform time-stepping schemes straightforwardly.

Recycling precious metals with high-efficiency is undoubtedly beneficial to optimize resource utilization for environmental remediation and sustainable ***,we report an efficient route to recycle the palladium(Pd)and platinum(Pt)electrocatalysts using a phase transfer *** strategy involves acidic dissolution of deactivated precious metal(Pd/Pt)electrocatalysts from their loading substrates,mixing with an ethanolic solution of dodecylamine(DDA),subsequent extraction of metal ions into a non-polar organic phase,and final reduction by sodium borohydride to reproduce high-performance electrocatalysts towards typical electrochemical reactions,e.g.,oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and ethanol oxidation reaction(EOR).In specific,the transfer efficiencies are up to 98%and the final recovery rate is over 85%for Pd and Pt electrocatalysts in each *** approach symbolizes a facile and efficient way to recover precious metals,which might be applied to recycling a wide range of metals in various realms after appropriate modifications.
