Promotive Effects of Siltfence on Deposition of Suspended Particles: Evaluations of Diffusion Suppression of Radionuclides in Rectangular Open Channel via Numerical Simulations

A siltfence is installed to prevent the spread of suspended sediments generated by engineering construction works in rivers and on the coast. Thus, the siltfence is regarded to be a tool to prevent radioactive materials adsorbed on suspended sediments from diffusing into the sea in ports of nuclear power plants during nuclear accidents. However, the prevention effects of the siltfence as sediment control structures have not yet been fully evaluated. Therefore, in this paper, we simulate the behaviors of suspended sediment particles using a coupled simulation scheme composed of water flow and deformation of the siltfence in a rectangular open channel under uniform steady flow, and evaluate the promotive effects of the installed siltfence on suspended sediment deposition. The results demonstrate that the installation of the siltfence significantly promotes deposition, especially of particles with low settling velocities. However, it should be noted that the opposite case is also possible, i.e., the siltfence promotes the diffusion of suspended sediments under particular conditions. These results suggest that a careful installation strategy is necessary. The present simulation scheme is useful in assessing the prevention effects of siltfences prior to their installation. © 2023 Atomic Energy Society of Japan, All Rights Reserved.

Lead sulfide(PbS),a typical functional semiconductor material,has attracted serious attention due to its great potential in optoelectronics ***,controllable growth of PbS single-crystal film still remains a great ***,we report heteroepitaxial growth of large-scale highly crystalline PbS films on alkali salt(NaCl and KCl)substrates via chemical vapor deposition(CVD).Structural characterizations demonstrate that the as-grown PbS films exhibit an atomically sharp interface with the underlying *** epitaxial relationships between the epilayers and substrates were determined to be PbS(100)//NaCl(100)or KCl(100),PbS[010]//NaCl[010]or KCl[010].Owing to the high solubility of alkali salt,the epitaxial PbS films can be rapidly released from the underlying substrates and transferred to other substrates of interest while maintaining good integrity and crystallinity,the process of which is particularly attractive in the fields of electronics and ***,photodetectors based on the transferred PbS films were fabricated,exhibiting a high photoresponsivity of 7.5 A/W,a detectivity of 1.44×10^(12)Jones,and a rapid response time of approximately 0.25 *** work sheds light on the batch production,green transfer,and optoelectronic application of PbS films.

In this paper, we describe the Graphics processing Unit (GPU) implementation of our City-LES code on detailed large eddy simulations, including the multi-physical phenomena on fluid dynamics, heat absorption and reflection by surface and building materials, cloud effects, and even sunlight effect. Because a detailed simulation involving these phenomena is required for analyses at the street level and several meters of resolution, the computation amount is enormous, and ordinary CPU computation cannot provide sufficient performance. Therefore, we implemented the entire code on GPU clusters with large-scale computing. We applied OpenACC coding to incrementally implement relatively easy programming and eliminate data transfers between the CPU and GPU memories. Based on this research, we determined that the elimination of data transfers is effective, even in the case where a part of the code execution on the GPU is slower than the CPU, owing to the absence of spatial parallelism. The objective of this study is to perform a complete climate simulation on a few square-kilometers field around the Tokyo Station, considering the finest resolution of the original highlighted area of the Marathon race in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. We successfully transferred the entire code to the GPU to provide approximately eight times the performance of CPU-only computation on multi-GPU per node with a large scale cluster. © 2022, IFIP International Federation for Information processing.

The implementation of titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a photocatalyst material in hydrogen (H2) evolution reaction (HER) has embarked renewed interest in the past decade. Rapid electron-hole pairs recombination and wide band gap of a photo-sensitive material of TiO2 are detrimental toward the targeted catalytical reaction. In this study, we present the rational design, fabrication, photocatalytic performance of TiO2-Cu/CuO/Cu2O heterostructures (CuTi) using viable chemical reduction method. The Z-scheme and S-scheme are succesfully generated across the TiO2/CuO/Cu2O interfaces, while the Schottky junction arises on the Cu perimeters. This is evidenced from the blue shifted about 0.3 eV of Cu 2p core level determined by using X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), in combination with the formation of inverse V-shape of the Mott-Schottky plots. In addition, we find that Cu/CuO/Cu2O facilitates photon absorption range up to the visible region. The multiple heterojunction and the large number of OHsurface enhanced charge carrier transfer are associated to the suppression of photoluminescence (PL) intensity, high surface hydroxyl (OHsurface) density in CuTi probed by XPS, and fast electron transfer based on the electrochemical measurements. The presence of OHsurface inhibits the recombination of electron. A significant H2 photogeneration rate enhancement is achieved when an optimized 5 wt% Cu/CuO/Cu2O concentration is used on TiO2 to achieve 7,157.19 μmol·g−1 (1,789.30 μmol·g−1·h−1). Based on this finding, zero emission energy innitiative could be materialized under multiple heterojunctions in photocatalytic process is beneficial for enhancing the H2 production. © 2025 The Authors

Text classification is an essential task of Natural Language processing (NLP) that intends to classify texts into predefined classes. Most recent studies show that transformer-based pre-trained language models such as BERT and RoBERTa have achieved state-of-the-art performance in several downstream NLP tasks. Despite their advantages, these models suffer from one primary drawback of the restricted input size. Because of this limitation, they cannot operate the entire input long texts. This paper presents an approach that utilizes the self-attention mechanism to address the bottleneck of most pre-trained language models of long input texts in the case of Amharic, regarded as a low-resourced language. Specifically, our method carefully investigates the significance of each word in the dataset using a self-attention mechanism. Then identify and select the most relevant words according to their attention scores. Finally, we train our model on the filtered text. Our results show that the approach achieves better performance in terms of accuracy compared to the baseline model.

High-temperature superconductivity in a two-dimensional electride

Electrides constitute a unique class of materials that can be developed as conventional superconductors with diverse dimensional superconductivity. However, the transition temperatures (Tc) of electride superconductors are generally low and promoting their Tc usually requires extremely high external pressures that are formidable for practical applications. Here, based on the first-principles calculations, we proposed that the recently reported electride, Be2N, can exhibit a two-dimensional (2D) superconductivity, which has a Tc of 10.3 K that is the highest Tc ever found for bulk electride superconductors at ambient pressure. More interestingly, we found that the high Tc of Be2N is mainly attributed to the large average phonon frequency, rather than the strong electron-phonon coupling, which can be further understood by the small atomic weight of Be atoms and the strong Be-N bonds. Moreover, compared to most conventional superconductors, we identified an unusual dependence of the superconductivity of Be2N on external pressures, originating from a unique charge transfer from its cationic framework to its anionic electron cloud. Our studies provide a deeper understanding of the superconductivity of 2D electrides and suggest a feasible way for the development of high-temperature electride superconductors at ambient pressure.

In this work, we have developed a range of organic Donor- π -Acceptor;we are changing the π-spacers by adding novel substitutions (F, CH3, and CN) to the base molecule D-TTOxTT-A for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Our aim is to improve the photovoltaic performance of these engineered organic dyes. We use the B3LYP (d,p) and TD/CAM-B3LYP (d,p) to study the impact of different types of the introduction of the substitution in the spacer, on the sensitizer characteristics, with the aim of highlighting the links between structure and property. Based on these results, it is possible to use these dyes as promising sensitizers for DSSCs. In addition, M4 could be an ideal compound for high throughput DSSC due to its planar geometry, low energy gap (1.73eV), higher absorption wavelength (449.3nm), longer lifetime (2.366 ns), lower ΔGreg (-0.64 eV), large hardness (-0.869 eV) and reasonable energy reorganization (0.488eV). © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
