In this paper we have developed a discriminative word alignment method using the liner CRF model for Mongolian-English language pair. Discriminative approaches have the ability to use large variety of features flexibly and to combine information from various sources. According to the differences between Mongolian and English, we discuss and select the different features, and experiments on Mongolian-English task demonstrate our word alignment model's superiority in performance over the popular GIZA++.

Determining global mean-first-passage time of random walks on Vicsek fractals using eigenvalues of Laplacian matrices

The family of Vicsek fractals is one of the most important and frequently studied regular fractal classes, and it is of considerable interest to understand the dynamical processes on this treelike fractal family. In this paper, we investigate discrete random walks on the Vicsek fractals, with the aim to obtain the exact solutions to the global mean-first-passage time (GMFPT), defined as the average of first-passage time (FPT) between two nodes over the whole family of fractals. Based on the known connections between FPTs, effective resistance, and the eigenvalues of graph Laplacian, we determine implicitly the GMFPT of the Vicsek fractals, which is corroborated by numerical results. The obtained closed-form solution shows that the GMFPT approximately grows as a power-law function with system size (number of all nodes), with the exponent lies between 1 and 2. We then provide both the upper bound and lower bound for GMFPT of general trees, and show that the leading behavior of the upper bound is the square of system size and the dominating scaling of the lower bound varies linearly with system size. We also show that the upper bound can be achieved in linear chains and the lower bound can be reached in star graphs. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of random walks on the Vicsek fractals and general treelike networks.

In this paper, we address the reference model adaptive neural network control problem for a class of switched nonlinear singular systems under the case of single input and multiple inputs. Based on RBF neural network, the state tracking controller and a switching strategy are designed so that switched nonlinear singular system can asymptotically track the desired reference model. It shows that RBF neural network are used to approximate the positive nonlinear unknown function. The approximation errors of the RBF neural networks are introduced to the adaptive law in order to improve the performance of the whole systems. A simulation example is performed in support of the proposed neural control scheme.

How to preserve causal and totally ordered event delivery is an important issue in real-time serverless DVE(Distributed Virtual Environment). However, most of the related works are designed to maintain causal order merely or time stamped order with intensive computation and bandwidth overhead. In this paper, we proposed a novel distributed algorithm to maintain the before-and-after relationship between events, both causal and concurrent, of DVE at each individual node. Several simulation experiments are carried out to evaluate the performance of our algorithm and the results demonstrate that the algorithm is effective in preserving causal and totally ordered event delivery and more efficient than the previous algorithms.

In this paper, we present a novel learning-based face hallucination method based on the assumption that similar faces will have similar local pixel structures. We use the low- resolution (LR) input face to search a database for K example faces that are the most similar to the input and align them with the input accordingly. The local pixel structures of the target high-resolution (HR) image are learned from those warped HR example faces in a neighbor embedding manner, and a total variation (TV) constraint is employed to aid the learning of all pixels' embedding weights. The learned local pixel structures are then used as constraints to reconstruct a HR version of the input face. Experimental results show that the method performs well in terms of both reconstruction error and visual quality.

Spectral techniques on Abelian groups are a well-established tool in diverse fields such as signal processing, switching theory, multi-valued logic and logic design. The harmonic analysis on finite non-Abelian groups is an extension of them, which has also found applications for particular tasks in the same fields. It takes advantages of the peculiar features of the domain groups and their dual objects. Representing unitary irreducible representations, that are kernels of Fourier transforms on non-Abelian groups, in a compact manner is a key task in this area. These representations are usually specified in terms of rectangular matrices with matrix entries. Therefore, the problem of their efficient representations can be viewed as handling large rectangular matrices with matrix-valued entries. Quantum Multiple-valued Decision Diagrams (QMDDs) and Heterogeneous Decision Diagrams (HDDs) have been used for representation of matrices with numerical values, under some restrictions to the order of matrices to be represented. In this paper, we present a generalization of this concept for the representation of rectangular matrices with matrix-valued entries. We also demonstrate an implementation of an XML-based software package aimed at handling such data structures.

An automatic recognition and processing method for freehand state transition diagram(STD) is proposed in paper. Firstly, a strategy of graphic primitive is employed to process freehand state transition and the graphics and characters are expressed by graphic primitives. Secondly, character-graphics separation is implemented using the mode of graphic primitive connected region increasing, and then characters and graphics contained in freehand STD are recognized respectively. Finally, the semantic understanding framework of STD is built by virtue of graphic attribute and spatial relationship. Experiments on the determination of finite automation and regular grammar corresponding to STD are realized semantic understanding which show that the proposed method is feasible and accurate in processing freehand graphics.

The standard condition number (SCN) is a fundamental metric in the context of multiple-input multiple-output communication systems, linear detection and classical linear algebra. Hence, in this paper we propose a novel generic framework for the SCN distribution of three different classes of Wishart matrices which leads to new results and insights. In particular, our analysis covers both central and non-central Wishart distributions of arbitrary dimension and therefore is applicable to uncorrelated/semi-correlated Rayleigh fading and Ricean fading scenarios. For the special case of dual semi-correlated central Wishart matrices, we derive exact and asymptotic polynomial expressions for the SCN distributions. All analytical results are validated via Monte-Carlo simulations with the attained accuracy being excellent in all cases. The impact of the model parameters on channel conditioning is also investigated in detail.

In several publications, the use of non-Abelian groups has been suggested as a method to derive compact representations of logic functions. The compactness has been measured in the number of product terms in the case of functional expressions and the number of nodes, the width, and the interconnections in the case of decision diagrams. In this paper, we discuss Fourier representations on finite non-Abelian groups in synthesis for regularity. The initial domain group for a logic function (binary or multiple-valued) is replaced by a non-Abelian group by encoding of variables. The function is then decomposed into matrix-valued Fourier coefficients, that are easy to implement as building blocks over a technological platform with regular structure. We point out that spectral representation of non-Abelian groups is capable of capturing regularities in functions and transferring them in the spectral domain. In many cases, weak regularities in the original domain are converted into much stronger regularities in the spectral domain due to the regular structure of unitary irreducible group representations upon which the Fourier expressions are based.

This paper surveys a collection of sample applications for networked user-centric context-aware embodied music listening. The applications have been designed and developed in the framework of the EU-ICT Project SAME (***) and have been presented at Agora Festival (IRCAM, Paris, France) in June 2009. All of them address in different ways the concept of embodied, active listening to music, i.e., enabling listeners to interactively operate in real-time on the music content by means of their movements and gestures as captured by mobile devices. In the occasion of the Agora Festival the applications have also been evaluated by both expert and non-expert users. © Institute for computer sciences, Social-Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2010.
