Personalized federated learning aims to address data heterogeneity across local clients in federated learning. However, current methods blindly incorporate either full model parameters or predefined partial parameters in personalized federated learning. They fail to customize the collaboration manner according to each local client's data characteristics, causing unpleasant aggregation results. To address this essential issue, we propose Learn2pFed, a novel algorithm-unrolling-based personalized federated learning framework, enabling each client to adaptively select which part of its local model parameters should participate in collaborative training. The key novelty of the proposed Learn2pFed is to optimize each local model parameter's degree of participant in collaboration as learnable parameters via algorithm unrolling methods. This approach brings two benefits: 1) mathmatically determining the participation degree of local model parameters in the federated collaboration, and 2) obtaining more stable and improved solutions. Extensive experiments on various tasks, including regression, forecasting, and image classification, demonstrate that Learn2pFed significantly outperforms previous personalized federated learning methods. This paper proposes an audio watermark extraction technique which adopts independent component analysis (ICA) for blind watermark decoding. Unlike the existing work, our method allows to combine data synchronization and watermark decoding into one optimization procedure, thus robust to transmission over different channels. Watermark encoder is designed as a nonlinear data embedding machine which is compatible to MPEG Layer 1 Model 1. It is shown that the proposed ICA based watermark decoding scheme allows decoding watermark info accurately even though the watermark to signal ratio is less than -20 dB. The method is robust to stereo-to-mono conversions and performs very well when the channel noise level is high.

The Commensal Radio Astronomy Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) Survey (CRAFTS) utilizes the novel drift-scan commensal survey mode of FAST and can generate billions of pulsar candidate signals. The human experts are not likely to thoroughly examine these signals, and various machine sorting methods are used to aid the classification of the FAST candidates. In this study, we propose a new ensemble classification system for pulsar candidates. This system denotes the further development of the pulsar image-based classification system (PICS), which was used in the Arecibo Telescope pulsar survey, and has been retrained and customized for the FAST drift-scan survey. In this study, we designed a residual network model comprising 15 layers to replace the convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in PICS. The results of this study demonstrate that the new model can sort >96% of real pulsars to belong the top 1% of all candidates and classify > 1.6 million candidates per day using a dual-GPU and 24-core computer. This increased speed and efficiency can help to facilitate real-time or quasi-real-time processing of the pulsar-search data stream obtained from CRAFTS. In addition, we have published the labeled FAST data used in this study online, which can aid in the development of new deep learning techniques for performing pulsar searches. In the paper, we propose a novel ordinal regression method called minimum class variance support vector ordinal regression(MCVSVOR). MCVSVOR is derived from minimum class variance support vector machine(MCVSVM) which is a variant of SVM, and so inherits the latter's characteristics such as taking the distribution of the categories into consideration and good generalization performance. Finally, the experimental results validate the effectiveness of MCVSVOR and indicate its superior generalization performance over SVOR.

In clinical practice, digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is a powerful technique for the visualization of blood vessels in X-ray image sequences. Different with traditional DSA image registration processes, in our proposed image registration method, the control points are selected from the vessel centerlines using multiscale Gabor filters, and mutual information (MI) is then taken as the similarity criterion to find the correspondences. Experimental results demonstrate our algorithm efficiently yields satisfying registration result for DSA images.

This paper studies a strike path strategy for quadcopter drones targeting ground maneuvering targets. The strategy sets the strike path to two different strike speeds, which improves the stability and robustness of quadcopter drones while shortening strike time and increasing hit rates. Consider the attitude control of quadcopter unmanned aerial vehicles during motion, and verify the flight reliability of the mechanism through simulation experiments. Set different slope strike paths and obtain the optimal strike path through experiments, while proving the effectiveness of this strike strategy in engineering applications.

One-shot distributed algorithm for generalized eigenvalue problem

Nowadays, more and more datasets are stored in a distributed way for the sake of memory storage or data privacy. The generalized eigenvalue problem (GEP) plays a vital role in a large family of high-dimensional statistical models. However, the existing distributed method for eigenvalue decomposition cannot be applied in GEP for the divergence of the empirical covariance matrix. Here we propose a general distributed GEP framework with one-shot communication for GEP. If the symmetric data covariance has repeated eigenvalues, e.g., in canonical component analysis, we further modify the method for better convergence. The theoretical analysis on approximation error is conducted and the relation to the divergence of the data covariance, the eigenvalues of the empirical data covariance, and the number of local servers is analyzed. Endobronchial intervention is increasingly used as a minimally invasive means for the treatment of pulmonary diseases. In order to reduce the difficulty of manipulation in complex airway networks, robust lumen detection is essential for intraoperative guidance. However, these methods are sensitive to visual artifacts which are inevitable during the surgery. In this work, a cross domain feature interaction (CDFI) network is proposed to extract the structural features of lumens, as well as to provide artifact cues to characterize the visual features. To effectively extract the structural and artifact features, the Quadruple Feature Constraints (QFC) module is designed to constrain the intrinsic connections of samples with various imaging-quality. Furthermore, we design a Guided Feature Fusion (GFF) module to supervise the model for adaptive feature fusion based on different types of artifacts. Results show that the features extracted by the proposed method can preserve the structural information of lumen in the presence of large visual variations, bringing much-improved lumen detection accuracy.

This paper presents a generic video vehicle detection approach through multiple background-based features and statistical learning. The main idea is to configure several virtual loops (as detection zones) on the image, assuming moving vehicles may cause pixel intensities and local texture to change, and then by identifying such pixel changes to detect vehicles. In this research, multiple pattern classifiers including LDA + Adaboost, SVM, and Random Forests are used to detect vehicles that are passing through virtual loops. We extract fourteen pattern features (related to foreground area, texture change, and luminance and contrast in the local virtual loop zone and the global image) to train pattern classifiers and then detect vehicles. As experimental results illustrate, the proposed approach is quite robust to detect vehicles under complex dynamic environments, and thus is able to improve the accuracy of traffic data collection in all weather for long term.
