We study the transport and spectral property of a segmented diode formed by an XX + XXZ spin chain. This system has been shown to become an ideal rectifier for spin current for large enough anisotropy. Here we show numerical evidence that the system in reverse bias has three different transport regimes depending on the value of the anisotropy: ballistic, diffusive and insulating. In forward bias we encounter two regimes, ballistic and diffusive. The system in forward and reverse bias shows significantly different spectral properties, with distribution of rapidities converging towards different functions. In the presence of dephasing the system becomes diffusive, rectification is significantly reduced, the relaxation gap increases and the spectral properties in forward and reverse bias tend to converge. For large dephasing the relaxation gap decreases again as a result of Quantum Zeno physics. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Stroke rehabilitation procedure with tricycle is arranged according to health standard especially stroke patients. The procedure consists of vital sign examination, Six Minute Walking Test (6MWT), and Fugl Meyer Assessment of Lower Extremity (FMA-LE). As the implementation of procedure, five respondents of stroke patients who had passed the critical period and are carrying out physical therapy in RSU Haji Surabaya take therapy by using tricycle. The results showed that the respondents have motor function score improvement from low to very good category. While based on fitness, the respondents have improvement of VO2maks capacity from 27.714 mL/(***) to 29.424 mL/(***). It can be said that the tricycle has a great meaning for stroke rehabilitation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Quantum evolution is crucial for the understanding of complex quantum systems. However, current implementations of time evolution on quantum photonic platforms face challenges of limited light source efficiency due to propagation loss and merely single-layer complexity. In this work, we present a loop quantum photonic chip (Loop-QPC) designed to efficiently simulate quantum dynamics over multiple time steps in a single chip. Our approach employs a recirculating loop structure to reuse computational resources and eliminate the need for multiple quantum tomography steps or chip reconfigurations. We experimentally demonstrate the dynamics of the spin-boson model on a low-loss Silicon Nitride (SiN) integrated photonic chip. The Loop-QPC achieves a three-step unitary evolution closely matching the theoretical predictions. These results establish the Loop-QPC as a promising method for efficient and scalable quantum simulation, advancing the development of quantum simulation on programmable photonic circuits. Active transradial prostheses research has been rapidly progressing in large parts due to the advent of additive manufacturing. However, commercially available prostheses are far from being affordable. Even with advanced or affordable prostheses available in research and in the commercial sector, the device abandonment rate has been quite high. The design investigation provides a description of a low-cost 3D-printed prosthetic hand aimed at addressing the top reasons for device abandonment, by devicing a new prosthesis hand-arm system that is light in weight, promotes active cooling of the residual limb and is cost-effective. Surface EMG (s-EMG) signals are acquired from the residual limb muscles and the processed signals are inferred into a simplified hand and wrist activity. The prosthesis discussed below consists of a 14-DOF, single degree of actuation robotic hand, with a rotary thumb. This is interfaced with a rotary wrist, which is mounted on an actively cooled residual limb interface that house the required control electronics and the s-EMG sensors.

Similaritons have attracted considerable attention thanks to their outstanding output performance in recent years. In this paper, we explored the entire dynamic evolution process of similaritons in an all-normal dispersion fiber laser through the time-stretch dispersive Fourier transform technique. Particularly, the narrow-band spectral filtering effect on the pulse evolution dynamics has been investigated. Two important features have been found during the build-up process: the ‘memory’ ability in the relaxation oscillation state has been partially lost;the build-up time is much shorter owing to the strong spectral filtering effect. Furthermore, the extinction process of the similariton fiber laser is observed and evaluated for the first time as well. An unstable time period accompanied by a high spectral peak over the spectrum is captured during the extinction process, and after this the damped relaxation oscillation state is observed. In addition, the spectral broadening and spectral ‘breathing’ process can be clearly observed in our experiment. These results can provide new perspectives into the ultrafast transient process of similaritons in all-normal dispersion fiber lasers and the dynamics of sophisticated nonlinear systems. © 2022, The Authors. Volume control of low-cost ventilator with automatic set-point adaptation

This paper considers the control design for a low-cost ventilator that is based on a manual resuscitator bag (also known as AmbuBag) to pump air into the lungs of a patient who is physically unable to breathe. First, it experimentally shows that for accurately tracking tidal volumes, the controller needs to be adapted to the individual patient and the different configurations, e.g., hardware or operation modes. Second, it proposes a set-point adaptation algorithm that uses sensor measurements of a flow meter to automatically adapt the controller to the setup at hand. Third, it experimentally shows that such an adaptive solution improves the performance of the ventilator for various setups. One objective of this paper is to increase awareness of the need for feedback control using sensor measurements in low-cost ventilator solutions in order to automatically adapt to the specific scenario. Companies producing Robot-Like Systems (RLS) must increase efficiency in design and production in order to stay competitive in the international market. Such RLS range from small SCARA robots to entire production facilities. Very different systems for similar tasks are published in research or offered in the market. A clear path to an optimal configuration for a given task is apparently not available to the engineer. This indicates that the gear drives of such RLS and their integration with automation technology are still insufficiently researched, and their efficient design poses significant challenges for the industry. This paper identifies and provides a concise overview of requirements and challenges in the context of drives for such RLS. Building on this overview, suggestions are made for the future course of action in research.
