The powder samples of Ca_(9)Sc(PO_(4))_(7):xDy^(^(3+))white emitting phosphors were prepared via a solid state reaction *** Ca_(9)Sc(PO_(4))_(7):Dy^(3+)samples were researched by using the GSAS Rietveld refinement and X-ray diffraction(XRD) methods,and SEM images and elemental maps were *** 350 nm excitatio n,the emission spectra of Ca_(9)Sc(PO_(4))_(7):xDy^(3+)samples have two obvious peaks and one weak peak at 484,572 and660 nm,corresponding to the characteristic electron transitions of(^(4)F_(9/2)→ ^(6)H_(15/2),blue),(^(4)F_(9/2)→ ^(6)H_(13/2),yellow) and(^(4)F_(9/2)→ 6 H11/2,red),*** concentration quenching effect,decay lifetime and thermal quenching of the as-synthesized Ca_(9)Sc(PO_(4))_(7):Dy^(3+)samples were researched *** Ca_(9)Sc(PO_(4))_(7):0.02 Dy^(3+)phosphor possesses a good thermal stability,of which the emission intensity at 423 K can maintain 79% of the initial value(273 K).In addition,through the study of the chro maticity coordinates of the Ca_(9)Sc(PO_(4))_(7):0.02 Dy^(3+)phosphor,it is found that it is located in the white region,and the Commission Internationalede L’Eclairage(CIE) chromaticity coordinates are(0.339,0.389),The above results show that Ca_(9)Sc(PO_(4))_(7):xDy^(3+)phosphors can be excellent candidate material for applications in NUV-excited white LEDs.

Portable robots for upper-limb rehabilitation after stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Background: Robot-assisted upper-limb rehabilitation has been studied for many years, with many randomised controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effects of robotic-assisted training on affected limbs. The current trend directs towards end-effector devices. However, most studies have focused on the effectiveness of rehabilitation devices, but studies on device sizes are relatively few. Goal: Systematically review the effect of a portable rehabilitation robot (PRR) on the rehabilitation effectiveness of paralysed upper limbs compared with non-robotic therapy. Methods: A meta-analysis was conducted on literature that included the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) obtained from the PubMed and Web of Science (WoS) electronic databases until June 2023. Results: A total of 9 studies, which included RCTs, were completed and a meta-analysis was conducted on 8 of them. The analysis involved 295 patients. The influence on upper-limb function before and after treatment in a clinical environment is analysed by comparing the experimental group using the portable upper-limb rehabilitation robot with the control group using conventional therapy. The result shows that portable robots prove to be effective (FMA: SMD = 0.696, 95% = 0.099 to.293, p < 0.05). Discussion: Both robot-assisted and conventional rehabilitation effects are comparable. In some studies, PRR performs better than conventional rehabilitation, but conventional treatments are still irreplaceable. Smaller size with better portability has its advantages, and portable upper-limb rehabilitation robots are feasible in clinical rehabilitation. Conclusion: Although portable upper-limb rehabilitation robots are clinically beneficial, few studies have focused on portability. Further research should focus on modular design so that rehabilitation robots can be decomposed, which benefits remote rehabilitation and household applications. © 2024 The Author(s). This study investigated the effects of floor and cage rearing systems on performance,meat quality,and enteric microorganisms of male and female yellow feather *** hundred Xueshan chickens(42 days old;100 of each sex)were divided into four groups,according to sex and rearing system(stainless-steel cage or litter floor).Male and cage-reared broilers exhibited better(P<0.001)performance and higher(P≤0.001)eviscerated percentage than female and floor-reared *** interaction between rearing system and sex had an effect(P<0.05)on the percentage of breast and thigh *** floor-reared broilers presented the highest(P<0.02)percentage of breast and thigh muscles among all the *** both sexes,the abdominal fat content in cage-reared broilers was higher(P<0.01)than that in floor-reared *** cage-reared broilers exhibited better(P<0.05)meat quality of breast muscle than other *** analysis of welfare observations indicated that the feather quality of floor-reared broilers was better(P<0.01)than that of cage-reared broilers,whereas the gait scores were not significantly affected(P>0.05)by rearing *** enteric microbiota assessment by 16 S rRNA amplicon-based sequencing showed that Firmicutes,Proteobacteria,and Bacteroidetes were the most prevalent phyla in both rearing systems,and that the cecum was relatively stable in terms of microbiome ***-reared broilers exhibited a richer diversity of bacteria in the intestinal tract than cage-reared broilers,while alpha diversity was not significantly different(P>0.05)among the *** ratio of Bacteroidetes to Firmicutes and the abundance of Helicobacter and Romboutsia could potentially affect the production of *** findings indicate that cage rearing improved the production of male Xueshan broilers,which may be due to the difference in enteric microbiota between cage and floor rearing systems.

Bio-inspired design can inspire highly innovative technical solutions. However, biological inspirations in most cases have to be abstracted to transfer useful analogies to the technical domain. Is it worth the effort to use supporting methods, namely BioCards and KoMBi, or can design teams develop bio-inspired solutions of the same quality without these methods? To answer these questions, we conducted workshops with pairs of engineering design students collaborating in an agile development project. The results of our study show that the task-specific quality of solution ideas increased significantly when using the BioCards method. The analysis of the prototypes developed throughout the project shows that the use of both abstraction methods has the highest effect on the abstraction level of analogical transfer and on the depth of understanding of the biological inspiration. These results indicate that the use of abstraction methods is recommendable for bio-inspired design teams in a comparable setting. © ICDC 2020.

On Integrating Prior Knowledge into Gaussian Processes for Prognostic Health Monitoring

Gaussian process regression is a powerful method for predicting states based on given data. It has been successfully applied for probabilistic predictions of structural systems to quantify, for example, the crack growth in mechanical structures. Typically, predefined mean and covariance functions are employed to construct the Gaussian process model. Then, the model is updated using current data during operation while prior information based on previous data is ignored. However, predefined mean and covariance functions without prior information reduce the potential of Gaussian processes. This paper proposes a method to improve the predictive capabilities of Gaussian processes. We integrate prior knowledge by deriving the mean and covariance functions from previous data. More specifically, we first approximate previous data by a weighted sum of basis functions and then derive the mean and covariance functions directly from the estimated weight coefficients. Basis functions may be either estimated or derived from problem-specific governing equations to incorporate physical information. The applicability and effectiveness of this approach are demonstrated for fatigue crack growth, laser degradation, and milling machine wear data. We show that well-chosen mean and covariance functions, like those based on previous data, significantly increase look-ahead time and accuracy. Using physical basis functions further improves accuracy. In addition, computation effort for training is significantly reduced. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The Chinese crested(CC)duck is a unique indigenous waterfowl breed,which has a crest cushion that affects its survival ***,the CC duck is an ideal model to investigate the genetic compensation response to maintain genetic *** the present study,we first generated a chromosome-level genome of CC *** genomics revealed that genes related to tissue repair,immune function,and tumors were under strong positive selection,indicating that these adaptive changes might enhance cancer resistance and immune response to maintain the genetic stability of CC *** also assembled a Chinese spot-billed(Csp-b)duck genome,and detected the structural variations(SVs)in the genome assemblies of three ducks(i.e.,CC duck,Csp-b duck,and Peking duck).Functional analysis revealed that several SVs were related to the immune system of CC ducks,further strongly suggesting that genetic compensation in the anti-tumor and immune systems supports the survival of CC ***,we confirmed that the CC duck originated from the mallard ***,we revealed the physiological and genetic basis of crest traits and identified a causative mutation in TAS2R40 that leads to crest ***,the findings of this study provide new insights into the role of genetic compensation in adaptive evolution.

One of the limitations of classical SysML is that it does not provide information on how to model system component's constraints, which can result in individual model solutions for the same elements. To address this issue, we propose utilizing the reference mechanism in SysML to refer to REXS and ECLASS data standards, which can unambiguously define characteristic properties. Environmental factors such as temperature or humidity constraints play a vital role in designing components of mechatronic systems, like transmissions, or electrical and electronic components like sensors and actuators. Mechatronic component's properties may change depending on temperature and humidity and may show degradation. Such information is provided to some extent in the component's classified properties, like ECLASS and/or REXS, the engineering tool to configure gears. Such properties and constraints are further detailed in specification sheets provided by the manufacturer, e.g., by multi-dimensional manufacturer-specific parametric curves which are proposed to be explicitly included in the modeling process as SysML constraints. The proposed approach allows to include additional, not yet standardized environmental effects such as dirt layers in a formalized way. The formalized properties are modeled in parametric diagrams of SysML.

For some products, such as radars, communication devices and key production line devices, the ability of continuous operating has an important impact on fulfilling tasks. As an important technical index, continuous operating time reflects the ability of products to operate continuously. But statistical model of continuous operating time has not yet been researched. In this paper, the definition of continuous operating time is given. Considering confidence level, an evaluation model of continuous operating time is proposed based on Minimum Order Statistic. Test plans are designed to verify continuous operating time with different consumer risks. Then a prediction model of continuous operating time is also constructed. A numerical example is introduced to illustrate the rationality and engineering applicability of the methods proposed in this paper.

When components of structures are designed separately, special attention must be paid to component interaction. For example, the natural eigenfrequency of a structure is a system property that depends on all components. Therefore, the mechanical properties of each component, i.e., its distribution of stiffness and inertia, have to be compatible with all other components. The resulting need for coordination can be reduced by breaking down system requirements into component requirements, before the component details are specified. This way, the system is decomposed into components that can be developed and optimized separately. This paper is concerned with decomposing the system requirement of maintaining a minimum natural eigenfrequency into least restrictive requirements on mass and stiffness distributions of components. The requirements are formulated as precise one-sided limits rather than target values on stiffness and mass distributions for each component and guarantee, when all satisfied, that the system requirement is satisfied. The paper presents generic limits on stiffness and mass distributions of all components derived from Rayleigh's Quotient. The general theory is then simplified to the special case of mass-less support elements that are attached to an arbitrary body. A particular choice of limit distributions is motivated by assuming quasi-rigid body motion of the main components. This assumption is then relaxed to produce requirements for arbitrary flexible *** approach is applied to the structural design of a space payload instrument, the ATHENA Wide Field Imager. The requirement on the system eigenfrequency is decomposed into requirements on the so-called primary structure and support structure elements. Both are then optimized independently. The increasing demand for clean water necessitates the development of advanced desalination technologies. Capacitive deionization (CDI) utilizing porous carbon electrodes presents a sustainable approach to the need for abundant fresh water. However, traditional carbon-based materials suffer from low efficiency and high manufacturing costs. This study dealt with this problem by modifying the I2@ZIF-8 material to improve CDI performance. By adding redox iodine, we were able to increase electrical conductivity while keeping the ZIF material's high porosity. The I2@ZIF-8 (2:1) demonstrates remarkable desalination capabilities, exhibiting 53.12 mg/g salt adsorption capacity (SAC) in a 1500 ppm NaCl solution. Notably, the electrodes remain stable and demonstrate excellent regeneration properties over 40 charge-discharge cycles, utilizing a potential range of -0.2 to 1.0 V with a current density of 25 mA/g. On the other hand, the I2@ZIF-8 (2:1) material effectively removes various other metals from the aqueous solution, with desalination efficiency following the order Ca2+ > Mg2+ > K+ > Na+, attributed to the combined influence of ionic charge and hydrated radius. Thus, our study presents an effective strategy for designing non-carbon materials having a hierarchical structure, resulting in enhanced SAC with low energy consumption in CDI applications. © 2023, The Authors.
