Dynamic modeling and control of the windshield wiper mechanisms

Determining the real behavior of the windshield wiper mechanisms is a priority in the design stage since the emergence of the computer graphic simulation. The paper attempts to analyze and simulate the windshield wiper systems by using a complex virtual prototyping platform, which integrates specific software solutions for realizing the 3D solid model (CATIA), modeling the MBS mechanical model (ADAMS), and controlling the mechanism (MATLAB). For applying the design strategy, we considered a tandem pattern double-lever system, which is approached in the concurrent engineering concept, by integrating the control system in the mechanical model at the virtual prototype level. To drive the mechanism, a DC motor is used, the objective being to control the angular velocity of the rotor, which is the input parameter in the mechanical model;the output, which is transmitted to the controller, is the motor torque. Driving the system by using the motor torque is more realistic than attaching a motion generator and driving the motion directly.

This paper treats a special topic of Bayesian filteringbased modeling concerning the analysis of the estimation process. The analysis involves the graphical representation of the estimation process. The paper suggests a three level hierarchical structure dedicated to the behaviourist representation of knowledge. The first level, referred to as the strategic one, is used in the problem solving providing the solution. The second level, called the tactical one, is employed in the solution implementation. The third level, named as the operational one, is meant for the solution execution. The first level is a strategically level the second is a tactical level and the third is an operational level. Feedback information from all higherhierarchical levels is used in learning to develop the lower levels. A case study concerning the control system of an autonomous car is considered to exemplify the design of the new knowledge representation structure.

Mechanical behavior analysis with the finite elements method of solar collector's tracking systems

The paper presents the finite elements analysis of the mechanical behavior for three main solar collector tracking systems: for plate, for dish and for trough solar collectors;There are presented the modeling algorithm by using FEM, the characteristics of the loads and of the restrictions. Finally, the aim is to find out the critical position of the tracking systems, when the equivalent stresses and the displacements have a maximum value and to identify the free oscillations characteristics (modes, frequencies, accelerations). According to the conclusions can be compared, as mechanical behavior, the analyzed structure of the tracking systems.

In this paper, we present a solution for increasing the efficiency of the photovoltaic systems. The idea is to design a dual-axis tracking system, which changes the position of the photovoltaic panel for maximizing the incident radiation on panel. The tracking system is approached in mechatronic concept, integrating the control system in the mechanical model of the tracking system. The virtual model is a control loop composed by the multibody mechanical model connected with the dynamic model of the actuators and with the controller model. Using the virtual prototype, we are able to optimize the tracking mechanism, choose the appropriate actuators, and design the optimal controller. The keyword for the design process of the tracking system is the energetic efficiency; our design strategy is to maximize the incoming solar radiation, and to minimize the energy consumption for tracking the sun path on the sky dome.

Customer evaluation of concepts plays an important role in the design of handheld devices, such as bottles of douche gels and shampoos, where the phenomenon of grasping needs to be evaluated. In these applications important information on the aspects of ergonomics and user behaviors could be gathered from computer simulation. It is our ultimate goal to develop an environment in which users and designers can freely interact with product concepts. In our approach to grasping simulation there is no tactile feedback and we do not measure the exerted grasping forces. There is no wiring of the human hand, and the users are not limited in their movements. We measure the motion of the human hand, compute the grasping forces based on anthropometric data, and simulate the reaction of product concepts in a physically based virtual reality environment. Our contribution consists of: (i) a method, which takes into account the anatomy of the human hand in order to determine the maximum grasping forces, and (ii) an approach which enables to control the grasping forces based on (a) the penetration of the virtual human hand into the virtual model of product concept (b) the posture of the grasping, and (c) the angles of the joints. The paper deals with a new variant of a cycloidal planetary transmission (CPT) with modified structure, proposed by the authors, able to accomplish high kinematical ratio and high efficiency, useful to fit mechatronic systems of renewable energy systems (RES). Through the conceptual design approach, six new transmission variants were generated and the principle solution was established. Further on, optimization studies on the geometrical features and dynamic behavior of the new planetary gear were performed. Based on a physical prototype and using a modern high-tech stand, experimental researches on the efficiency of the new cycloidal transmission tested as reducer were performed. The obtained experimental results comply with the theoretical model, and some performance features of the transmission prototype are thus derived.

This paper intends to continue the author research program on modular robots by a new solution of the inverse kinematics problem. An original method based on plausible reasoning is proposed. The paper structure consists on the following parts: an introduction where the inverse kinematics problem and the plausible reasoning principles are presented, the description of the proposed method and simulations results illustration. Conclusion and future works intentions will end the paper.

The paper intends to continue the research program of human knowledge. We will present a theory of commune sense which is related to plausible reasoning. In order to do this we will establish the principles and some theoretical results which have been obtained from the mentioned principles: the Bayesian theorem and the Bayesian filter. The next step was to use these theoretical results in models creation. The paper presents such an example.
