This paper proposes a modeling and controller design approach for a wind-diesel hybrid system including dump load. The proposed control scheme for power quality is fuzzy PI controller which has advantages of PI and fuzzy controller. Simulation results show that the proposed controller is more effective against disturbances caused by wind speed and load variation than the PI controller, and thus it contributes to a better quality wind-diesel hybrid power system. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Among essential treatment of cardiovascular disorders are fibrinolytic proteases. Most thrombolysis agents are fibrinolytic enzymes from group of bacterial proteases. This work reports a potent bacterium isolated from fermented intestine of H. scabra, which could produce fibrinolytic protease with high thrombolysis activity. Bacterial selection was conducted based on proteolytic and fibrinolytic activities indicated as clear zone on skim milk and fibrin agar media, respectively. Crude proteases from the selected bacterial isolates were subjected to thrombolytic activity test based on gravimetric method, which results were confirmed after 7 repetitions. As result, 4 fibrinolytic protease-producing bacterial isolates HFSI-3, HFSI-4, HFSI-5 and HFSI-8 were obtained. Among them, HFSI-5 isolate identified as Bacillus tequilensis on the basis of the 16S rRNA gene sequencing and morphological properties produced crude protease with the highest thrombolytic activity. The thrombolytic activity of crude protease produced by B. tequilensis HFSI-5 is worthy of comparing to that of standard fibrinolytic enzyme Nattokinase showing its potential as thrombolysis agent. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Cholangiocarcinoma(CCA), the adenocarcinoma of the biliary duct, is commonly reported in Asia with the highest incidence in northeastern Thailand. Chemotherapy of this type of cancer is limited due to the lack of effective chemotherapeutic drugs. A series of previous studies support further research and development of Atractylodes lancea(Thunb) DC.(AL) as a potential candidate for the treatment of CCA as a crude ethanolic extract. In the present study, we aimed to develop an oral pharmaceutical formulation(capsule) of the standardized AL crude ethanolic extract for further clinical development in patients with CCA. Major steps included macroscopic and microscopic authentication of the AL rhizomes, preparation of standardized AL extract, preparation of oral pharmaceutical formulation(capsule) of the standardized AL extract, quantitative and qualitative analysis of the marker compound(atractylodin) in the formulated AL extract, evaluation of contaminations of heavy metals, pesticides residues, and microorganisms in the ground AL rhizomes and the formulated(capsule) powder of AL, physicochemical and pharmaceutical properties of the formulated AL extract/capsule, and cytotoxicity evaluation of the formulated AL extract. Results of all evaluations confirmed satisfactory pharmaceutical properties of oral(capsule) formulation of the standardized AL extract.

Daylighting offers huge potential for the reduction of energy consumption due to lighting in commercial buildings. It can reduce lighting energy use by 40-60% when properly implemented. In addition, it provides other benefits like increased occupant health and well-being. However, as with other implementations, there are challenges, including the cost of windows and lighting control systems, added design complexity to ensure siting and interior space facilitates daylighting, glare management and the implementation of effective lighting controls. Currently, buildings only have about 2-5% of space that has enough skylight area for toplighting, as opposed to 60% of commercial floor space that is directly under a roof.

The Advanced Concept Ejection Seat (ACES) currently uses the Analog Sequencer, designed in the 1960's and 1970's with analog technology, to control ejection event timing and ejection mode selection. Continued usage of the Analog Sequencer is undesirable due to limitations with respect to its installed life, electronic component obsolescence, flexibility to accommodate seat safety improvements, and mode differentiation capability at the Mode 1 to 2 crossover point. The Digital Recovery Sequencer (DRS) program was undertaken by Goodrich, the seat Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), and the Cartridge Actuated Device / Propellant Actuated Device (CAD/PAD) Joint program Office (JPO) to design and qualify a sequencer based on digital technology as a replacement for the Analog Sequencer. The DRS program was established with three phases: Phase I for requirements definition and supplier selection, Phase II for design and qualification, and Phase III for pre-planned production (P3I) improvements. Phase I was completed in 2003. Phase II is complete through design, firmware verification, component qualification, and sled testing. Phase II is on track to conclude with approval of the Safe-to-Fly certification in October 2005. The DRS is in the early stages of production with deliveries scheduled for the 4th Quarter of 2005 and the 2nd Quarter of 2006. The program progress to-date, the DRS design including its safety related improvements;and results from the DRS firmware verification, component qualification, and sled tests are presented herein.

Novel hydroxychloroquine (HCQ)-sugar conjugates were evaluated for their antimalarial activity against chloroquine-sensitive ( Pf 3D7) and multi-resistant ( Pf Dd2) strains of Plasmodium falciparum , cytotoxicity, and hydrolytic stability. HCQ-galactose conjugate with a 1,2-orthioester linkage exhibited the highest activity against Pf 3D7 (IC 50 value of 0.018 ± 0.001 μg/mL). Per- O -acetyl-β- d -glucopyranosyl-HCQ exhibited the highest activity against Pf Dd2 (IC 50 = 0.20 ± 0.02 μg/mL), while also maintaining comparable activity against Pf 3D7. Orthoester-linked conjugates were gradually hydrolyzed in human serum, resulting in HCQ release, which may contribute to their high activity. Glycosidic bond-linked conjugates showed high hydrolytic stability, retaining a certain level of activity, possibly without releasing HCQ. Toxicity assessments using the BHK21 cell line indicated significantly lower cytotoxicity for all HCQ-sugar conjugates compared to HCQ.

The objective of the present work is to assess the impact of improvements in standard characterization figures of merit of electrical steels, typically found in manufacturers catalogs (B_(50) and W_(10/400)), in the performance of high speed electrical motors. From the motor manufacturer standpoint, changing to new materials may represent a complicated and costly procedure. Besides, the motor manufacturer has to deal with process variability and building tolerances that may overcome minor improvements in the electric steel. The electrical steel manufacturer has to deal with numerous process variables and long and expensive development times to come up with new products. Hence, even a small improvement in the B_(50) and W_(10/400) figures are considered to be great achievements. In order to verify if such improvements really translate into real gains in electrical motors, a series of prototypes were constructed with newly developed electrical steels. The core losses of these prototypes were determined by the loss segregation method. Test results support the conclusion that the standard steel characterization figures of merit do not carry enough information for steel and motor manufacturers to conclude on the performance of an electrical steel grade. A datasheet of the electrical steel is proposed. Such datasheet carries useful information for the electrical motor designer and should also be used in the steel development process as a new product assessment tool.

This study was to investigate the combined effect of polydextrose and guar gum, as a fat replacer, on physical, chemical, textural, and sensory properties of developed Sungyod rice cookies (SYRC). The variation of polydextrose (5.00-9.50%), guar gum (0.50-1.00%), and butter (12.00-16.50%) were optimized using a d-optimal mixture design with 3 center points. The suitable formulation for SYRC with the optimized quantity of polydextrose (5.00%), guar gum (1.00%), and butter (16.00%) was obtained and can substitute the fat content in control SYRC up to 6%. The substitution of polydextrose and guar gum significantly affected the physical, chemical, textural, and sensory properties, especially fat content which could be reduced by 27.86% as compared with control SYRC formulation. The consumer acceptance of optimized SYRC was in the range of like slightly to like very much (6.7–7.4). The research outcomes indicated that polydextrose and guar gum can substitute fat content in SYRC and can be applied to create bakery products which can further recommend the exploitation of various ingredients to deliver reduced-fat products. © 2022

The issues of the food safety, the increasing globalization of food production, and the perceived food risks have raised consumer’s doubt about the industrial food system and changed consumer’s purchasing habits. That is resulting in the emerging food system that food produced and consumed locally. The short supply food chain and transparent procedure could enhance food quality. The basis of the local food system is the face-to-face relationship between producers and consumers. However, there are many different concepts in the literature that explain the local food system. The purpose of this study is the concept of local food systems and ‘Local Consumption of Locally Produced, LCLP’ from the restaurant manager’s perspective. This study will conduct a review of literature related to the local food system and the ‘Locavore’, and through personal interviewing, focus groups, to understand ‘LCLP’, as well as conceptualize comprise production, consumption, and management dimensions. The theory that external collaboration is linked to radical innovation is supported by recent research findings cited in the article.
