Alzheimer's disease(AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder with multiple ***-amyloid(AB) self-aggregation and overexpression of class IIa histone deacetylases(HDACs) are strongly implicated with AD *** this study,a series of novel diarylheptanoid derivatives were designed,synthesized and evaluated for use as dual Aβ self-aggregation and class IIa HDAC *** these compounds,4 j,5 c and Se displayed effective inhibitions for AB self-aggregation,HDACS activity and HDAC7 activity with IC50 values of < 10 μ*** compounds contain three common features:(1) a catechol or pyrogallol moiety,(2) a carbonyl linker and(3) an aromatic ring that can function as an HDAC cap and create hydrophobic interactions with Aβ***,compounds 4 j,5 c and 5 e showed no significant cytotoxicity to human neuroblastoma SH-SY5 Y cells and also exhibited neuroprotective effect against H2O2-induced ***,these promising in vitro data highlighted compounds 4 j,5 c and 5 e as lead compounds that are worthy for further investigation.

The characteristics of palm oil plantation solid biomass wastes as raw material for bio oil

Indonesia is the largest palm oil plantations estate in the world. It reached 11,30 million hectares in 2015 and increased up to 11,67 million hectares in 2016. The advancement of technology recent, the solid waste of palm oil plantation can be re-produced become bio oil through pyrolysis hydrothermal process and utilized for biofuel. The purpose of this research was to analyze the characteristics of feedstock of bio oil of solid waste of palm oil plantations estate. The feedstock used was derived from solid waste of palm oil plantations in Riau Province. Characteristic analysis of waste oil included chemical compound content (cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin), ultimate analysis (C, H, N, O, S) to know height heating value (HHV). The result of analysis of chemical content showed that solid waste of palm cellulose 31,33 – 66,36 %, hemicellulose 7,54 – 17,94 %, lignin 21,43 - 43,1. The HHV of hydrothermal pyrolysis feedstock was 15,18 kJ/gram - 19,57 kJ/gram. Generally, the solid waste of palm oil plantations estate containing lignocellulose can be utilized as bio oil through hydrothermal pyrolysis. The CG-MS analysis of bio oil indicated hydrocarbon contents such as pentadecane, octadecane, hexadecane and benzene.

Despite substantial declines since 2000, lower respiratory infections (LRIs), diarrhoeal diseases, and malaria remain among the leading causes of nonfatal and fatal disease burden for children under 5 years of age (under 5), primarily in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The spatial burden of each of these diseases has been estimated subnationally across SSA, yet no prior analyses have examined the pattern of their combined burden. Here we synthesise subnational estimates of the burden of LRIs, diarrhoea, and malaria in children under-5 from 2000 to 2017 for 43 sub-Saharan countries. Some units faced a relatively equal burden from each of the three diseases, while others had one or two dominant sources of unit-level burden, with no consistent pattern geographically across the entire subcontinent. Using a subnational counterfactual analysis, we show that nearly 300 million DALYs could have been averted since 2000 by raising all units to their national average. Our findings are directly relevant for decision-makers in determining which and targeting where the most appropriate interventions are for increasing child survival. © 2022, The Author(s).

Far Target Location (FTL) is a key element of the US Army's Force Operating Capabilities (FOC) doctrine to see, understand, and act first and foremost on the battlefield. Precise FTL data provides today's Soldier with essential information pertaining to direct and indirect fire, surveillance, and maneuver missions, where reliable and accurate Situational Awareness (SA) is vitally important for dismounted military operations. The US Army in conjunction with our industry partners, have spent the last ten years canvasing the marketplace to develop, optimize, and make available for fielding a lightweight, low power and accurate north finder and position keeping inertial module. This effort has included the technologies of Fiber Optic Gyros (FOGs), Ring Laser Gyros (RLGs), Magnetohydrodynamic gyros (MHD), Hemispherical Resonator Gyros (HRG), and MicroElectroMechanical Systems gyros (MEMS) and various hybrid solutions. Included in these efforts have been major breakthroughs in the evolution of the technologies, many challenges, and a continuing effort to push the boundaries of what is possible in this rapidly changing field. This paper will cover the progress, present state, and visions for the future as it applies to the dismounted soldier and combat vehicle crew members. © 2016 IEEE.

This research is aimed at developing a strain-rate and temperature dependent crushing model for expanded polystyrene foam (EPS). EPS is a closed cell foam that is mainly used in applications where energy absorption is critical such as in bicycle helmets. It has good mechanical properties and offers at the same time a reduction on material costs and weight. The main purpose of this work is to study the dynamic properties of EPS foams by deriving stress-strain curves at different strain rates and temperatures. Further objective is to study the compressive loading of EPS foam in bicycle helmets by finite element (FE) simulation and to create a model to simulate the behavior of the EPS foam. Finally, it is also aimed to establish a comparison of the FE analysis in LS-DYNA with the dynamic compression test results. The stress-strain curves for different strain rate and for different temperatures are the output of this experimental test program. During compression, no internal damage was observed in CT-scans. This result allowed the creation of a uniform foam model. The methodology in this research allows developing more accurate FE models for bicycle helmets that can be used during a design process. © 2016, European Conference on Composite Materials, ECCM.
