Complex Event Processing (CEP) 's main purpose is recognizing interesting phenomena upon streams of data. So its only natural that it would find applications in the maritime domain, where detecting vessel activity plays an important role in monitoring movement at sea. In this study we briefly examine the field of Complex Event Processing; we present two CEP implementations, one based on machine learning techniques and a rule-based system modeled with Event Calculus. Finally, we evaluate their ability in modeling activities that involve multiple vessels, by comparing their results on real-life examples.

The commercial satellite market is currently experiencing a major upheaval. In that course of, new large satellites in medium and geostationary earth orbits are no longer foreseen with Chemical Propellant systems but rather with Electric Propulsion (EP). Next generation Satcom platforms, such as Electra and Neosat, are even equipped with full EP systems. As a result, vast amounts of Xenon (up to 1500 kg) must be reliably stored under high pressure and faces to a set of challenging requirements and constrains. In parallel, significant reaction forces and cycling loads acting during launch and in-orbit phases. In order to satisfy these demands, MT Aerospace has developed a "Large Xenon Tank Assembly" (LXTA). The LXTA represents a low-mass, high-performance pressure vessel, which enables a maximum degree of flexibility over a large volume range of 300-900 liters. Conception and verification of the LXTA has been performed under consideration of all relevant launch vehicles and under close collaboration with multiple European primes as well as satellite operators. Due to the comprehensive relevant heritage and sophistication of the applied fracture mechanics analysis as well as the state-of-the-art non-destructive inspections (NDI) and welding methods, the wall thickness of the titanium liner is minimal. Accordingly, the liner comprises less than 20 percent of the overall tank mass, yet remains compliant with "safe life" requirements as specified in respective international standards. Special feature of the composite over-wrapped pressure vessel (COPV) with metallic liner is an integral equatorial composite skirt. It is machined to provide lugs, which enables both tight dimensional tolerances as well as ease of integration to the interfacing satellite structure. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently experiencing a bloom driven by deep learning (DL) techniques, which rely on networks of connected simple computing units operating in parallel. The low communication bandwidth between memory and processing units in conventional von Neumann machines does not support the requirements of emerging applications that rely extensively on large sets of data. More recent computing paradigms, such as high parallelization and near-memory computing, help alleviate the data communication bottleneck to some extent, but paradigm- shifting concepts are required. Memristors, a novel beyond-complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology, are a promising choice for memory devices due to their unique intrinsic device-level properties, enabling both storing and computing with a small, massively-parallel footprint at low power. Theoretically, this directly translates to a major boost in energy efficiency and computational throughput, but various practical challenges remain. In this work we review the latest efforts for achieving hardware-based memristive artificial neural networks (ANNs), describing with detail the working principia of each block and the different design alternatives with their own advantages and disadvantages, as well as the tools required for accurate estimation of performance metrics. Ultimately, we aim to provide a comprehensive protocol of the materials and methods involved in memristive neural networks to those aiming to start working in this field and the experts looking for a holistic approach. © The Author(s) 2024.

GNSS spoofing detection by supervised machine learning with validation on real-world meaconing and spoofing data—part II

Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) meaconing and spoofing are being considered as the key threats to the Safety-of-Life (SoL) applications that mostly rely upon the use of open service (OS) signals without signal or data-level protection. While a number of pre and post correlation techniques have been proposed so far, possible utilization of the supervised machine learning algorithms to detect GNSS meaconing and spoofing is currently being examined. One of the supervised machine learning algorithms, the Support Vector Machine classification (C-SVM), is proposed for utilization at the GNSS receiver level due to fact that at that stage of signal processing, a number of measurements and observables exists. It is possible to establish the correlation pattern among those GNSS measurements and observables and monitor it with use of the C-SVM classification, the results of which we present in this paper. By adding the real-world spoofing and meaconing datasets to the laboratory-generated spoofing datasets at the training stage of the C-SVM, we complement the experiments and results obtained in Part I of this paper, where the training was conducted solely with the use of laboratory-generated spoofing datasets. In two experiments presented in this paper, the C-SVM algorithm was cross-fed with the real-world meaconing and spoofing datasets, such that the meaconing addition to the training was validated by the spoofing dataset, and vice versa. The comparative analysis of all four experiments presented in this paper shows promising results in two aspects: (i) the added value of the training dataset enrichment seems to be relevant for real-world GNSS signal manipulation attempt detection and (ii) the C-SVM-based approach seems to be promising for GNSS signal manipulation attempt detection, as well as in the context of potential federated learning applications. © 2020 by the authors. As one of the key technologies of digitalization, Augmented Reality (AR) provides significant innovation potentials for the product service business. However, the design of AR-based product service systems proves to be challenging due to interdependencies of product, service and AR functionalities. In this paper, a semi-formal, domain-spanning specification technique is presented. It helps companies to systematically create concepts for product service systems, taking into account the technology-specific requirements of AR, and enables a transparent communication between the domains involved. © 2018 Faculty of Mechanical engineering and Naval Architecture. A dynamical constraint-generating algorithm for the Single-Vehicle Cyclic Inventory-Routing Problem

The Single-Vehicle Cyclic Inventory-Routing Problem (SVCIRP) is a variant of the Inventory-Routing Problem (IRP) in which the replenishment decisions of a recurring distribution plan are optimized. In this paper, we investigate the current formulation of the SVCIRP and propose a number of improvements for it. First, we introduce a new binary variable in the model to distinguish tours in which only one retailer is visited. Additionally, we formulate three new sets of valid inequalities. Because one of the sets contains an exponential number of inequalities, we develop a procedure to insert only the violated inequalities. We present an algorithm, based on this procedure, to solve the SVCIRP effectively. Our computational results show that our algorithm outperforms the other exact methods in literature. We obtain 25 new best bounds and we find 13 improved solutions. © 2018

Recently, feeding assembly stations with parts is becoming more and more difficult. This is especially true for complex products with a large variety of individual models and an increasing number of parts. The consequential lack of space at assembly stations requires not only to rethink feeding methods but also sizing assembly stations. Outsourcing selective maintenance problem in failure prone multi-component systems

RésuméIn many industrial settings, there are systems designed to perform consecutive missions interspersed with finite breaks during which only a set of component repairs can be carried out due to limited time, budget, or resources. The decision maker then has to decide which components to repair in order to guarantee a given performance level. This is known as the selective maintenance problem (SMP). This paper introduces a new variant of the SMP by specifically taking into account the maintenance outsourcing alternative. A novel integrated non-linear programming formulation where both the in-house and outsourcing maintenance alternatives are accounted for is developed and optimally solved. The effect of the outsourcing alternative on maintenance decisions is investigated through numerical experiments. The overall results obtained demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach. © 2018
