The objective of this study was twofold: first, to investigate how fermentation treatments influence the volatile composition across different cocoa fractions, from beans to chocolate;and second, to apply and demonstrate the use of the ComDim method for analyzing multi-block datasets generated by the same analytical technique. While principal component analysis was used to provide insights into individual datasets, ComDim revealed complementary information across all data tables, enhancing data interpretation. Cocoa pulp reduction and inclusion of malt residue and banana peel partially affected the volatile composition of cocoa beans, nibs, liquor, and chocolate. The results indicated that cocoa beans and nibs were more affected by fermentation treatments than liquor and chocolate. This study not only advances the understanding of cocoa volatile chemistry but also highlights the potential of circular economy practices by incorporating valuable co-products into cocoa fermentation, thereby enhancing sustainability and adding value throughout the cocoa supply chain. © 2024

In the last decade, evidence-based medical practice has been supported on a large scale by computerized decision support tools, aiming to reduce diagnostic and therapeutic uncertainty, complementing the actions of the health professional. With technological developments, it is now possible to consider these systems as part of clinical intervention, both for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The literature has described the implementation of e-health tools, that is, technological innovations in the health area such as software, applications, serious games, among others, as a strategy to improve the process and adherence to treatment. However, there is still no standardized instrument in Brazil that can be used to guide the development, from the research phase, and the implementation of these tools as a health intervention, also impacting patient outcomes. With the objective of investigating a new therapeutic and preventive form, based on intervention with a computerized system, this work proposes the creation of guidelines for the registration and implementation of e-health tools as a clinical intervention. The proposal aims to be able to assist in the reporting standardization from the development stage to the application of the e-health tool helping in the treatment of diseases, registering all the experience lived in the research and applying it in different contexts of health.

This bibliometric study examines publications spanning from 1995 to 2023 on biobased materials for food-packaging (BMFP), often proposed as alternatives to petroleum-based on FP. The number of articles related to this topic exhibited an annual growth rate (AGR) of 105.7% from 2019 to 2023 compared to 1995 to 2018, indicating a growing interest in this field over the past 28 years, with 2082 articles published in high-impact journals. Notably, countries such as China, India, and Brazil demonstrate significant scientific output per capita, with influential groups based in institutions from Malaysia and Spain (Universiti Putra Malaysia, IATA, and CSIC). Among over 4,000 key-words, those with high co-occurrence were analyzed to identify crucial research areas and current knowledge gaps. Using the SC database, 1,233 articles from 2019 to 2023 were selected to explore the research landscape and key areas of interest within BMFP. Temporal keyword analysis revealed emerging themes, including active food packaging (AFP) and its antimicrobial capabilities, nanotechnology and composites in FP, biodegradability and edible-films, biopolymers for food-packaging, and pectin-based active packaging materials. Thus, eco-friendly food packaging solutions based on nanoparticles and polysaccharides show prospects for development or contribution to advancements. Consequently, the use of AFP demonstrates a prosperous trend for the food packaging-industry in the future. © 2025 The Author(s)

In its competitive form, CrossFit® intends on assessing the performance of athletes in a wide variety of aspects that determine their conditioning. CrossFit Games is an official competition and intends to recognize the best conditioned athlete in the world to each class. Thus, measuring an athlete’s Physical Conditioning is, in a sense, assigning a set of performance outputs that can determine the efficiency and efficacy of the athlete, discriminating the performance of one or more athletes. Since the scores obtained by the athletes in the various workouts are directly identifiable, the conditioning can be seen through the performance in a competition, it is, therefore, a result of the interpretation and scope of the workouts in measuring the performance. This work analyzed data form "CrossFit Open" and has as an objective to propose a new theoretical arrangement to the sport discipline while being of the Item Response Theory which is capable of providing data such as, discriminatory capacity and difficulty level of the workouts, as well as, an assessment of the competition. In other words, intends to describe the probability of an athlete performing a workout and obtaining a score, given his/her physical conditioning. Analysis of the main indications that refer to a good quality of the measurement tool indicates it is a high quality competition. Lastly, this work accomplished both objectives proposed, methodological as well as practical, and recognizes the limitations derived from the reduced amount of qualitative data on the topic and the little use of applied probability models. © 2022, CC BY.

Bidding processes are common for transparency purposes in several areas, such as civil construction and energy exploration. Usually, public agencies are responsible for the projects and formal notices are launched for the competition of interested parties. Also, those processes may occur in the private sector, and the decision process involves multiple dimensions that may be conflicting. The present study presents a multicriteria model to support decisions involving the allocation of deliveries (pallets) in the bidding process of a beverage company, where a set of carriers compete for the distribution of beverages in routes. On each route, there is a specific set of competing carriers. In addition, a carrier can participate in the process of more than one route, however, the carrier's capacity must be respected, considering the combination of allocations received on the solution. The Best-Worst Method (BWM) is used to obtain weights for criteria that are later applied in the PROMETHEE II method. The net flows from PROMETHEE II are then used in an assignment model, which outputs the share allocated to each carrier in each route. The tests and models include several practical constraints, and the approach achieved consistent results that may be replicated to support decision-making and future processes.

The aviation industry has a significant impact on the environment, accounting for 13% of global fossil fuel consumption and 2% of annual CO2 emissions. One of the factors that increase this consumption is engine degradation due to the accumulation of dirt on compressor blades. To mitigate this effect and restore efficiency, compressor washing is essential, but it requires high water consumption. This study analyzes the operational, economic, and environmental benefits of optimizing this process, based on the Blue Economy. Fuel efficiency was assessed using the Fuel/RTM indicator, financial viability using ROI, and environmental impacts using the MIF index. The results indicate a 1.8% gain in fuel efficiency, annual savings of $179,000, a 6.9% reduction in environmental impact, and a 50% drop in water use. The findings demonstrate that sustainable maintenance practices generate economic and environmental gains, contributing to the conservation of water resources in aviation. © 2025 The Author(s). engineering Reports published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Health Sector is depending on interoperability between systems. Over the past 10 years, materials science and engineering have shown increasing interest in incorporating lignocellulosic fibers into polymer and hybrid composites (LCF-CPH). This bibliometric analysis, covering the period 2012 to 2022, examines the current state of research on the application of these fibers in composites, with the aim of identifying significant contributions, new trends, and possible future directions. The analysis included a comprehensive database search using specific criteria, which revealed a significant increase in research activity on a variety of lignocellulosic fibers, such as flax, jute, hemp and sisal. This growth is particularly evident in the packaging, automotive, aerospace and construction industries. Hybrid composites based on these fibers have gained prominence due to their enhanced properties, which include improvements in mechanical, thermal and environmental characteristics. The findings of this research have significant implications for governments, corporations, and academic institutions. Researchers gain a deeper understanding of emerging trends, industry gains valuable insights into the advantages of adopting lignocellulosic fibers, and policymakers gain essential information to support the development of sustainable composites. In the field of advanced composites and sustainable materials, this work lays a solid foundation for future research and industrial applications. © 2024

The critical minerals industries in Indonesia may pose possible environmental and human health risks due to the release of pollutants into soil, water, and air, as well as the use of materials and energy. This study investigates the possible environmental and human health impacts of Indonesia's nickel, gold, copper, tin, and bauxite mining and processing industries. This study utilizes the latest version of the OpenLCA software, version 2.0, in combination with the Ecoinvent 3.8 database. To evaluate potential environmental consequences and health effects on humans, CML-IA Baseline and Environmental Priority Strategies (EPS) are employed in product development. The EPS system was developed utilizing a hierarchical methodology with the objective of furnishing the product developer with data regarding the financial impact of human health impairment resulting from a particular product development. The production of one tonne of gold, nickel, bauxite, tin, and copper results in the emission of 7.34.E+07, 4.61.E+04, 3.10.E+04, 1.02.E+04, 8.01.E+03 kg CO₂ eq/t, respectively, contributing to global warming. This production is associated with asthma cases of 7.79.E+01 (gold industry), 2.21.E−03 (copper industry), 1.81.E−03 (tin industry), 9.21.E−04 (nickel industry), and 4.71.E−06 (bauxite industry) Personyears/t. Electricity consumption and the release of carbon dioxide are the main factors contributing to global warming. The primary cause of asthma cases is the utilization of fuel oil and electricity. Power plant chimneys can employ various technologies, such as cyclones, bag filters, and scrubbers, to mitigate the release of polluting gas emissions. The critical mineral industry must prioritize handling and governing of steam power facilities to minimize their negative effects on the environment and human health. © 2024 The Authors

Business logistics have an undeniable strategic importance and organizations can reach new markets and improve service levels for their customers by outsourcing. To maximize the benefits of the relationship between a shipper (i.e. logistics buyer) and a logistics provider, an alignment of goals and objectives is required. Thus, this paper developed a model that connects the perceptions of both parties. The model was based on the trade-off matrix, the priority matrix, and the importance-performance analysis matrix. A case study was adopted, considering two companies located in Caruaru-PE, Brazil. This case study highlights the divergent perceptions between the companies studied and how the proposed methodology can help in directing actions that create synergy in the supply chain.
