An ensemble of deep models is commonly used to provide more robust and accurate performance for medical image classification. A drawback of the most common ensemble aggregation operators is that they give the same importance to all models in the ensemble. As a consequence, they cannot identify weak models that may negatively influence the ensemble performance. In this work, we propose a new method based on the Dirichlet distribution and Mahalanobis distance to learn dynamic weights to an ensemble of deep learning models. Through this method, it is possible to reduce the influence of weak models for each new sample evaluated by the ensemble and perform online ensemble pruning. We evaluate this method for an ensemble of six well-known deep models applied to four medical imaging datasets. The experiments show that our method achieves the best balanced accuracy for 2 out of 4 datasets and increases the confidence of the ensemble predictions.

This article uses thought-experiments grounded on Clausewitz’s theory of war to (1) explain the limitations and dispel the confusion that stems from transposing “victory" from the outcome of battle (which admits zero-sum results) to the outcomes of war (which largely do not), and (2) to propose criteria for the substantive assessment of the outcomes of the political use of war, gauging the extent, cost, and implications of political goals gained, approximated or leveraged, and the result and effects of the use and expenditure of force to the resulting balance of forces among belligerents and in the broader political environment. © 2020 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

A declining trend of Samosir Panorusan goat population has been identified. As the Panorusan is an endemic and endangered species goat where the pure breed only 250,000 heads left, a research was conducted in order to find the cause factors for declining trend of population from April to June 2018 in Pangururan District, Samosir Regency. The method used was multiple linier regression analysis with variabel limitations such as goat feed, disease, breeders'experience, local culture and marketing rate of productive ewe. This research was conducted by asking directly to Panorusan goat breeders. The total of 55 goat breeders was divided into 2-3 breeders/villages. The results of this study indicated that the variable of local culture was significantly as a dominant factor that causing a declining trend of Samosir Panorusan goat population. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Strategies have been developed in the last decades to improve the sustainability of produced goods,including cleaner production (CP) as an important approach in identifying problems and propose alternatives for improvement under a holistic *** Serrana city,located at Minas Gerais state,Brazil,has a footwear cluster considered fundamental for the regional socioeconomic ***,the production is still based on outdated management techniques that make it economically noncompetitive and cause high load on the natural environment,which claims for studies supporting decisions towards higher *** work aims to discuss about the results obtained after applying the CP approach in three footwear factories located in Nova Serrana ***,the factories are assessed under emergy (with an "m") and material flow accounting *** show that CP was helpful in identifying opportunities for improvement related to better management that is usually easy and cheap to be achieved,including employee training,updating internal control of material storages,reusing scrap materials,and redesigning the procedure of synthetic leather *** indicators obtained from the used environmental accounting tools suggest two approaches for a decision: (i) when pursuing sustainability under a global perspective,footwear factory C should be promoted since it causes lower load on the upstream processes by demanding lower emergy (3.8 E 18 sej/yr),abiotic,water and air resources (1.13 E6 kg/yr,3.66 E7 kg/yr,and 3.82 E5 kg/yr respectively);(ii) when pursuing sustainability by considering socioeconomic short to medium needs,footwear factory B should be promoted since it has higher efficiency in producing footwear (4.03E13 sej/kg for emergy demand,10.64 kg/kg for abiotic,319.09 kg/kg for water and 3.96 kg/kg for air).This work contributes with practical basis for the environmental accounting and management of footwear enterprises providing important su

The chloroplast (cp) is an essential organelle in higher plants. The genes of the plastome are well suited to infer phylogenetic relationships among taxa. In this study, we report the assembly of the cp genome ofArtocarpus altilisand its phylogeny among species from Moraceae family. The cp genome ofA. altiliswas 160,822 base pair (bp) in length, comprising one large single-copy region of 88,692 bp, one small single-copy region of 19,290 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRs) of 26,420 bp. A total of 113 different genes were predicted, including 79 protein-coding genes, 30tRNA genes, and fourrRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis of 19 species belonging to the Moraceae family confirmed the phylogenetic proximity of the genusArtocarpusandMorusand the genetic similarity ofA. camansiandA. altilis.

The aim of this study was to map the innovation of services in small and medium-sized enterprises, as reported on the Web of Science and SCOPUS databases, using a structured review, involving 121 papers published between 1946 and 2019. There has been an increase in the number of studies in recent years, covering 23 countries on six continents, with the UK representing 48.78% of the studies. Patterns in the use of methods applied in research were identified, as well as a conceptual structure of the field. The main areas of science were finance, marketing, energy, and green engineering. The study makes an original contribution to the literature, highlighting the interest in the expansion of knowledge among the academic community, in addition to enabling a deeper analysis of the relation between the evaluated constructs. © 2020, The Author(s).

Application of Genetic Algorithms to the Multiple Team Formation Problem

Allocating of people in multiple projects is an important issue considering the efficiency of groups from the point of view of social interaction. In this paper, based on previous works, the Multiple Team Formation Problem (MTFP) based on sociometric techniques is formulated as an optimization problem taking into account the social interaction among team members. To solve the resulting optimization problem we propose a Genetic Algorithm due to the NP-hard nature of the problem. The social cohesion is an important issue that directly impacts the productivity of the work environment. So, maintaining an appropriate level of cohesion keeps a group together, which will bring positive impacts on the results of a project. The aim of the proposal is to ensure the best possible effectiveness from the point of view of social interaction. In this way, the presented algorithm serves as a decision-making tool for managers to build teams of people in multiple projects. In order to analyze the performance of the proposed method, computational experiments with benchmarks were performed and compared with the exhaustive method. The results are promising and show that the algorithm generally obtains near-optimal results within a short computational time. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Subcritical water extraction (SWE) is a remarkable method for the simultaneous extraction of high- and low-polarity bioactive compounds from ginger. This study investigated the effects of temperature, pressure, and extraction time on the crude polysaccharide yield, protein content, total phenolic content (TPC), and amounts of 6-gingerol and 6-shogaol. The pressure was maintained at 30 bars, and the temperature and extraction time were optimized to maximize the polysaccharide yield, protein, TPC, gingerols, and shogaols contents. The rising temperatures (100–160 °C) and extended extraction times (10–50 min) enhanced the yield and TPC but negatively affected protein stability, leading to thermal degradation when the temperature surpassed 180 °C. Specifically, the content of 6-gingerol decreased at high temperatures because of its conversion into 6-shogaol. The optimal extraction conditions were 160 °C for 40 min at 30 bars, resulting in a polysaccharide yield of 8.54 %, protein content of 100.35 mg body surface area/g dry mass, TPC of 18.10 mg Galic acid (GA)/g dry mass, 6-gingerol content of 2.14 mg/g dry mass, and 6-shogaol content of 0.28 mg/g dry mass. Therefore, SWE effectively extracts various polar bioactive compounds from plant materials in a single step. © 2025 The Authors

In the current industrial revolution, additive manufacturing (AM) embodies a promising technology that can enhance the effectiveness, adaptability, and competitiveness of supply chains (SCs). Moreover, it facilitates the development of distributed SCs, thereby enhancing product availability, inventory levels, and lead time. However, the wide adoption of AM in industrial SCs creates various challenges, leading to new difficulties for SC design. In this context, this paper proposes a new design approach to AM SCs using optimization methods. More specifically, the proposed approach, comprising the pmedian and mixed-integer linear programming models, considers the decision of deploying productive resources (3D printers) in specific locations of generic spare part SCs. The approach was evaluated in a real-world use case of an elevator maintenance service provider. The obtained results demonstrated the promising capabilities of the proposed design approach in managing the challenges arising from the forthcoming widespread use of 3D printers in manufacturing SCs. © 2020, CC-BY-NC-ND.

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Multi-criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA), and Cluster Analysis (CA) are techniques widely used to help decision-makers determine the solution to problems with multiple and often conflicting criteria. This study presents a comprehensive review of the literature on the DEA, MCDA, and CA models to identify existing and potential applications and future development trends. To this end, the Methodi Ordinatio was applied to determine which publications have the greatest impact, considering articles in three databases: Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science. We pair the techniques two by two since no results were found to integrate the three techniques. The results point to a portfolio with 490 articles, in which approximately 43.87% of the articles combine DEA and MCDA techniques for solving efficiency and productivity analysis problems. © 2023 The Author(s)
