To optimize resource use in production, Lean manufacturing is the most widely implemented method in the world. One of the most useful tools in Lean production is Value Stream Mapping (VSM). With focus on visualizing key data of a production process in a single picture, VSM attempts to reveal bottleneck steps in a process. As a consequence, industrial engineers can determine which stages of the process should be put emphasis on improving. However, VSM sole consideration is economics and other aspects of sustainability such as societal and environmental are neglected. With Sustainable Value Stream Mapping (SVSM), all necessary illustrations for a sustainable manufacturing process can be visualized, which leads to higher chances to identify potential problems in the efficiency of production processes beyond the ones identified using lean manufacturing. This research provides a case study where SVSM is applied in an apparel company in order to identify potential issues in the sustainability of their production process. Furthermore, this paper highlights several potential solutions such as Radio-frequency identification (RFID), big data and ergonomics improvement by discussing the impact of their implementation on the process sustainability. Finally, the conclusion section discusses limits in the solutions implementation and suggest future research. © 2018 IEEE.

The general law principles for protection the personal data and their importance

Rapid technological change and globalization have created new challenges when it comes to the protection and processing of personal data. In 2018, Brazil presented a new law that has the proposal to inform how personal data should be collected and treated, to guarantee the security and integrity of the data holder. The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the principles of the General Law on Personal Data Protection, informing real cases of leakage of personal data and thus obtaining an understanding of the importance of gains that meet the interests of Internet users on the subject and its benefits to the entire Brazilian society. Sustainability and functioning of silvopastoral ecosystems are being threatened by the forecasted warmer and drier environments in the Mediterranean region. Scattered trees of these ecosystems could potentially mitigate the impact of climate change on herbaceous plant community but this issue has not yet tested experimentally. We carried out a field manipulative experiment of increased temperature (+2-3 ?) using Open Top Chambers and rainfall reduction (30%) through rain-exclusion shelters to evaluate how net primary productivity and digestibility respond to climate change over three consecutive years, and to test whether scattered trees could buffer the effects of higher aridity in Mediterranean dehesas. First, we observed that herbaceous communities located beneath tree canopy were less productive (351 g/m(2)) than in open grassland (493 g/m2) but had a higher digestibility (44% and 41%, respectively), likely promoted by tree shade and the higher soil fertility of this habitat. Second, both habitats responded similarly to climate change in terms of net primary productivity, with a 33% increase under warming and a 13% decrease under reduced rainfall. In contrast, biomass digestibility decreased under increased temperatures (-7.5%), since warming enhanced the fiber and lignin content and decreased the crude protein content of aerial biomass. This warming-induced effect on biomass digestibility only occurred in open grasslands, suggesting a buffering role of trees in mitigating the impact of climate change. Third, warming did not only affect these ecosystem processes in a direct way but also indirectly via changes in plant functional composition. Our findings suggest that climate change will alter both the quantity and quality of pasture production, with expected warmer conditions increasing net primary productivity but at the expense of reducing digestibility. Microalgae is one of the main substances used in the biomass production process in order to produce environmentally-friendly biofuels. Microalgae biomass production process influenced by several of environmental factors, specifically, the use of catalysts which play an important role in order to produce a significant yield of microalgae biomass. The use of catalyst should obey the rules of green chemistry and also minimalizing the negative impact to the environment. This paper aims to compare the effectiveness of the use of three types of catalysts: biocatalysts (enzymes), homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts. These three types catalyst then used as additive components in the transesterification process to produce microalgae biomass. This study was conducted by collecting data related to the yield of biomass contained in several scientific journals through the Science Direct website using the systematic literature review method. The data processing involves a semi meta-analysis method using the one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test, followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test using Fisher’s method.

Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) are a great source of social impacts and are more vulnerable to have worse social performance on their workers than bigger firms. Thus, it is important to aid decision-making to optimize the social impacts of MSEs on their workers. Hence, the purpose of this study is to apply a quantification framework to the qualitative results of a previous social life cycle assessment study applied in MSEs and to prove whether the quantification of the social impacts on their workers can aid to decision-making in this type of organizations. The method follows a four-step procedure and uses customized score factors for quantifying the social impacts on workers and was applied in three MSEs from three service activities. The results show several social hotspots that impacts negatively on MSEs' workers (Freedom of association, Fair salary, Working hours, and Social benefits), thus, some actions, such as the encouragement of association of workers to labor unions, the increasing of salaries, the reduction of working hours and the provision of more social benefits, are suggested to enhance the social impacts on MSEs' workers. So, the quantified results of social life cycle assessment allow to recognize social hotspots, they are a guidance to realize in what issues MSEs are impacting negatively on their workers and, thus, it aids to the decision-making, and encourages MSE-owners to take actions on it, in order to be more responsible with their workers and more socially sustainable.

Normal Move Out (NMO) Correction using Common Mid-Point (CMP) data based on shallow target seismic. It has several problems for NMO correction. This constraint is caused by changes in extreme velocity gradients, resulting in less optimum value shallow target Common Mid-Point (CMP). The increased velocity causes a stretch in the Normal moveout (NMO) process which can reduce the S/N ratio. To minimize the stretch effect on NMO processing, we use a dynamic time warping algorithm analysis seismic signal with dynamic time warping algorithm based calculation time shift at time series sequence. The results of the NMO-DTW show that there is no change phase and frequency in the trace seismic with the far offset. Because algorithm calculation is based on the initial trace on CMP.

This paper addresses the subject of software measurement, namely, the method of Function Point Analysis, which consists in functionally sizing the software. The sizing activity held between customer specialists and suppliers causes disagreements because it involves multiple vague factors that are difficult to quantify. This paper aims to develop the AITOD- Intelligent Decision-making Support system, based on Paraconsistent Annotated Evidential Logic Eτ. This system aims to contribute to the decision-making process of managers. Such methodology has as a precept the materialization of artefacts derived from concepts. The AITOD product has achieved significant improvements in the process of mitigating project recounts. Through the AITOD system, it was verified that 46 projects would result in approval of 28.57% of the projects, 50 projects would result in approval of 64.10% of the projects. With these results, companies would avoid unnecessary expenses and rework. In the scope of the innovative project, the results achieved on the reduction of values spent on project recounting stands out, being proved the viability of the AITOD product.

Effects of corrective insole on leg muscle activation and lower extremity alignment in rice farmers with pronated foot: a preliminary report

Background: Execution of strenuous activities in conjunction with slippery and viscous muddy working terrain in rice cultivation leads to a high prevalence of farmer musculoskeletal disorders and malalignments. Recommended intervention strategies originally designed for congenitally disabled individuals may also be applicable to farmers, including simple corrective wedges to reduce foot eversion. The objective of the present study was to conduct a preliminary investigation of the effects of corrective wedges on lower extremity muscle activity and alignment when subjects stood on flat rigid ground or muddy terrain, simulating typical work conditions encountered by the unique but populous Thai rice farming workforce. Methods: Nine healthy farmers with pronated feet were recruited to participate and wedges were custom fabricated for each farmer based on physical therapy assessment and use of rapid prototyping techniques. Participants were asked to stand barefoot or with wedges on the two surface types. Results: Results revealed foot pronation and knee valgus to improve (ranging, on average between 5.5 and 16.1 degrees) when participants were equipped with corrective wedges. The muscle activity of the peroneus longus and the tibialis anterior increased for muddy terrain, as compared with the rigid surface. In general, the wedges induced less tibialis anterior activity and greater peroneus longus activity, compared to when participants were standing barefoot. An elevation in evertor muscle activity may reflect stretching of the shortened muscle as a result of the reduced degree of foot pronation. Conclusions: Findings demonstrate potential benefits of corrective insole usage for farmers with pronated feet, including improved lower extremity alignment and invertor muscle activity reduction for both rigid and muddy terrains. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd
