Discovery of rare association rules in the distribution of lawsuits in the federal justice system of Southern Brazil

In the context of data mining, infrequent association rules may be beneficial for analysing rare or extreme cases with very low support values and high confidence. In researching risky situations or allocating specific resources, such rules may have a much greater impact than rules with high support value. The objective of this study is to obtain association rules from the database of lawsuits filed in the Federal Court of Southern Brazil in 2016, including both frequent and rare rules. By finding these rules, especially rare ones, the information collected can assist in the decision-making process, in this case, such as training clerks or establishing specialised courts. In retrograde gas condensate reservoirs, the accumulation of liquid from natural gas below the dew-point pressure leads to condensate blockage, a significant issue in reservoir damage. Although most of this liquid doesn't reach the level required for production, it hinders the flow of natural gas, affecting its production. This study focuses on the impact of gas injection methods (like methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen) and high-temperature steam on an Egyptian retrograde gas condensate reservoir. Various scenarios were tested, involving different temperatures, enthalpy levels, types of injection gases (CO2, N2, CH4), and injection rates. The findings revealed that neither conventional nor thermal gas injection methods significantly increased cumulative gas production compared to simply depleting the reservoir. However, non-thermal gas injection methods boosted cumulative condensate production by 8.6%. Notably, thermal CO2 injection showed a substantial increase, enhancing condensate production by 28.9%. The study found that thermal gas injection does not vaporize condensate more effectively than conventional injection methods under similar reservoir pressure trends. Instead, the primary benefit of thermal injection is in enhancing condensate mobility. Therefore, thermal injection is most suitable for depleted retrograde reservoirs, where a significant amount of non-producible liquid has already accumulated. The research also explored the operational aspects of implementing thermal gas injection in retrograde gas condensate reservoirs. This includes considerations for carbon dioxide recovery units, compressors, storage tanks, corrosion-resistant pipelines and tubing strings, as well as corrosion inhibitors and downhole gas heaters. The global agribusiness context faces at the same time challenges of feeding a growing global population that is used to safe and nutritious food, opportunities based on innovation, high technology and efficiency in the agri-food production systems from field to table. Given the context, this article aims to present the main key aspects of the circular economy to agro-industrial cooperatives. These contributions were named key aspects, such as circular and symbiotic practices, competitive advantages, innovation, cooperation and barriers and opportunities. The field presents a problem that few literature in fact discusses circular economy approaches in the context of agro-industrial cooperatives. As a methodological procedure, a literature review was carried out in three databases to obtain relevant documents and thus analyse and discuss some characteristics based on circular economy practices applied in agro-industrial cooperatives. As a result, a diagnosis of the current scenario that agro sector organizations are facing in terms of the main rural activities and sustainable practices that relate to the circular economy;measures taken to generate competitive advantage;innovation behaviour;and how linear and circular business models are being applied in the agroindustry. A framework is presented to show potential routes strategies for closing the cycle in an agro-industrial cooperative. The opportunities are based on the implementation of high technology in the field, the use of bioenergy and the development of new circular business models throughout the agro-value chain. The study has contributions to rural properties and managers of cooperatives in terms of waste reduction, innovation generation and increases in activities and processes based on circular economy. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Due to the momentum of Industry 4.0 in various product and service sectors, academic and business investments in the development of new technologies in the logistics sector also stand out. Based on these trends, bibliographical research was carried out of articles dedicated to robotics with application in the logistics sector. Based on the bibliographic survey results, this work proposes a prototype of an autonomous terrestrial mobile robot that must go through corridors in specific layouts in logistics centres focusing on the aid of control tasks and management information for decision making. The main contribution is testing a para-analyzer algorithm based on non-classical logic such as Paraconsistent Annotated Logic Eτ, as the decision-making tool to avoid obstacles. © 2021, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

Clothes consumption and disposal practices: a look at the profile of Brazilian apparel consumers

Purpose This paper aims to contribute to understanding Brazilian fashion consumer behavior. The subsequent research question is formulated as follows: How are the consumers purchasing new clothes and disposing of used ones, and how is their awareness of sustainable fashion consumption and disposal of used clothes? Design/methodology/approach An online questionnaire was sent to nearly one thousand e-mails. A database was formed with 182 complete answers to 13 questions concerning consumer behavior toward sustainability, especially clothing acquisition, use and disposal. A multimethod approach was used to analyze the initial attributes, applying descriptive statistics, cluster analysis and data mining. Findings This survey obtained valuable answers from Brazilian fashion consumers grouped into four clusters. Age and yearly income were more critical in determining the clusters. Only four attributes were chosen by the algorithm to build the trees (age, annual income, yearly spending on clothes and how long the clothes are worn). The consumer's profile may help the fashion industry redirect investments in sustainability. The most critical factor leading to the sustainability of clothing fashion was the duration of the clothes. The study dealt with a limited sample size that was not representative of Brazil's broader population. Despite numerous attempts to seek responses through e-mail, the participant pool was predominantly composed of highly educated individuals. Originality/value This assessment of Brazilian consumer behavior toward sustainability and fashion presents essential knowledge to understand the relationships among variables affecting the purchase and discharge of clothes.

Demand generation is crucial for organizations, supplying sales teams with well-qualified commercial opportunities. Despite the wide variety of existing opportunity qualification methodologies, the subjective nature of experts' final evaluation remains an obstacle to efficiency and productivity in the business process. This research investigated how Fuzzy Set Theory and Fuzzy Logic could be applied to the BANT methodology for qualifying commercial opportunities, aiming to replace these deliberative evaluations by experts to increase the sales cycle performance. A fuzzy inference system was developed to emulate the assessments of the experts. The analysis of the ratings obtained after processing a sample of commercial opportunities from 2022 and 2023 confirmed the system's effectiveness in aligning with expert perceptions. While the study indicated room for refinements in the model, the findings underscore the potential to streamline the qualification of opportunities and improve sales cycle performance. © 2024 The Authors.

The use of long short-term memory models to estimate soybean pricing: a regional climate data evaluation from Brazil

This work uses machine learning methods to analyze the influence of the Brazilian climate on international soybean price variability. For this purpose, climatic data, historical series of the extended national consumer price index, dollar price historical series, soybean harvest historical series, and international soybean price historical series are collected from different data sources. The data is then preprocessed and grouped by state. Afterward, data from the five most productive Brazilian states, Mato Grosso (MT), Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), Goiás (GO), Paraná (PR), and Rio Grande do Sul (RS), which together correspond to 74.9% of total production, are chosen. Then, predictive models were built using the long short-term memory (LSTM) method, which is applied to each state dataset considering two different settings: with and without climatic data. Thus, two models were built for each Brazilian state, totaling ten predictors. These models are evaluated using 10-fold sequential split cross-validation, whose predictive results are used for performance comparison through statistical hypothesis testing. In the experimental evaluation, when trained with climatic data, the PR model achieved the lowest average values of root mean squared error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE), which are 20.90 and 16.72, respectively. Regarding predictors trained without climate data, the RS and PR obtained the lowest averaged values of RMSE (20.84) and MAE (16.81), respectively. After performing statistical hypothesis tests, no significant differences were found between the models, stating, with certainty 95%, that the Brazilian climatic data did not influence soybean prices in our study. © 2013 IEEE.

COVID-19 pandemic accelerates the perception of digital transformation on real estate websites

In early March, the newspapers reported the arrival of the Coronavirus in Brazil. The period of confinement directly affected our routines and transformed our consumption habits. Amidst the fear of contagion and uncertainty, people isolated themselves and postponed changes. Previous studies indicate that digital practices were accelerated after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, facilitating communication and improving the performance of various sectors of the economy. Thus, to better understand the behavior of Brazilian real estate market professionals in this period, the objective of this research was to verify whether the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the process of perception of digitalization in real estate websites. To this end, five experts in the digital real estate market were interviewed, asked what are the main items that a quality real estate website should have to improve user experience. Based on the items selected by the experts, a questionnaire was developed and a question was constructed for each item. The questionnaire was sent online to 2144 realtors, asking about the importance of these items before and after the pandemic started. Using a 5-point Likert scale, and strict criteria for analysis, our survey yielded 423 valid responses. The results indicate that regardless of the groups analyzed, the hypotheses confirm that after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the perception of the importance of digital technology in Brazilian real estate websites was enhanced, increased. Managers took advantage of the pandemic and the availability of digital technology to offer specialized service to customers, thus creating a new competitive scenario. The tools associated with the visualization of the property and information such as ‘360°/Video Tour’, ‘Video Visit Broadcast’, ‘Chatbots’ and ‘FAQ List’ had the greatest increase in perception. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V.

The pillars of Environment, Social and Corporate Governance at Naval Terminal are of utmost relevance, which it is carries out 70% of the bulk loading of soybean meal in the Santos Harbor, and responsible for 40% in Brazil. This study aims to present the optimization of ESG actions developed by the Compliance area. A project was developed based on financial, social and environmental materiality, implementation of internal audits and monitoring for Certifications. This is a exploratory research carried out by the naval terminal Compliance area. Implementation of a Reporting Channel, Due Diligence for suppliers, and Certifications: ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System), GMP Plus (Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety) and ISO 45001 (System of Occupational Health and Safety Management), HACCP Certification - Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (Food Safety on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points). These actions contributed to ensuring excellent quality in its bulk loading processes. © 2024 The Authors.

Growing concern about environmental pollution has led to a tightening of legislation worldwide. An example is the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) principle, which holds producers responsible for the life-cycle management of their products. In this context, the management of End-of-life tires (ELT) presents a significant challenge due to the pollution they cause by being disposed of in landfills without prior treatment. Thus, there is an opportunity to implement ELT recovery technologies that explore new sustainable alternatives. This work presents a multi-period, multi-product, multi-objective optimization model that supports decision-making for the design of a sustainable reverse logistics network. A case study is presented to show the usefulness of this model, considering the implementation of pyrolysis plants for the treatment of ELT in Chile under the regulatory framework of the EPR Law. The results show that even though the objectives are opposed, the regulatory framework of the EPR Law allows for mitigating the conflict between economic, environmental, and social decisions by establishing collection goals. The epsilon-constraint method can find economically profitable solutions, obtaining gaps of at least 8.5% and at most 19.3%. However, this will depend on the changes and sensitivity of the uncertain parameters of the model. Conclusions call for reinforcement of regulatory policies involving reverse logistics and ELT management. Future work considers the implementation of robust optimization to deal better with uncertainty. © 2023 IEEE.
