The theme of Sustainable Development has gained more and repercussion in the society spheres contributing to a greater awareness of the need for natural resources conservation, as well as the challenge of keeping promoting the socio-economic development of the regions. One of the key issues for this sustainable development is in the Electric Power Generation with the increasing use of renewable energy, and less harm to the environment. In this scenario, the state of Paraná historically has been one of the largest producers of electricity in the country, almost entirely through hydroelectric plants due to the large watershed in the state. However, the use of this source is in constant decline due to the hydric potential exhaustion, and also due to the pressure from society related to the environmental, social and economic impacts occasioned by its installation. To overcome these limitations, other sources have been studied and applied such as the biomass, the wind and photovoltaic in isolated systems. Most recently, as a function of the Call No. 13/2011 and the Resolution 482/2012 from ANEEL (Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency), there was also the possibility of generating electricity through Grid-connected Photovoltaic Power Systems. These systems have been widely employed in the urban environment as electricity generators near the distributed point of consumption, intensely applied in many countries, especially in Europe, usually requiring no additional area, since they can be installed on the roof of the building or integrated in it. This paper aims to present the Photovoltaic Map of the Paraná State, Brazil, which represents the potential for generating electricity through solar photovoltaic power, and also to compare the preliminary results of the values of electricity generation measured in the Gridconnected Photovoltaic Power System located at the Technological Federal University of Paraná (UTFPR) in the city of Curitiba, capital of Paraná-Brazil.

The goal of this paper is to show a study to evaluate the possibility of using ontologies to support maintenance procedures in IT equipment in a small power company. The aim is to improve the degree of reliability in detection of potential failures and defects in maintenance processes of information technology critical assets, trying to obtain less downtime of services that they provide. The methodological procedures used in this study were literature review, to present the modeling concepts of knowledge focused on ontologies creation and state of the art in building of field procedures describing the steps from initial drafting of ontology finishing with their tests. The results demonstrate that it is viable to utilize this technique, where the network equipment that keeps critical services require high level of availability on meeting the needs of the corporation.

The aim of this paper was to study three variables in hydrogen peroxide bleaching of cotton fabrics： the amount of hydrogen peroxide （H2O2）, peroxide stabilizer （Na2SiO3） and the process temperature. The factorial planning of two levels and three factors was done in order to obtain an optimized recipe for subsequent comparison with commons recipes used in industry. Were evaluated the brightness （DL）, energy consumption （dQ）, H2O2 residual （Rox）, processing time and ecological costs.

The literature identifies a trend of new vehicles development at global level resulting in a global product development (GPD). In this context, this paper aims at analyzing the decentralization of GPD in an assembler of commercial vehicles. Factors that contribute to the decentralization of GPD are considered in this investigation as well as their causes. Case-based research is adopted as the research methodological approach, conducted in a Brazilian assembler and its headquarters in Germany. The results indicate that the organization reacts similarly to other economics industrial sectors (e.g. telecommunications) when facing the decision of decentralizing GPD. Unlike other studies, it was also found that modular design has influence on the GPD decentralization process. The interest of the local market and historical aspects of the evolution of the subsidiary were found to be relevant. From these results a proposed structure for GPD and adoption of modular design is suggested. © 2012 IEEE.

Objective This paper proposes the unification of entrance exams to medical residency programs (MRP) in Brazil. Problems related to MRP and its interface with public health problems in Brazil are highlighted and how this proposal is able to help solving these problems. Methods The proposal is to create a database to be applied in MRP unified exams. Some advantages of using the Item Response Theory (IRT) in this database are highlighted. Results The MRP entrance exams are developed and applied decentralized where each school is responsible for its examination. These exams quality are questionable. Reviews about items quality, validity and reliability of appliances are not common disclosed. Conclusion Evaluation is important in every education system bringing on required changes and control of teaching and learning. The proposal of MRP entrance exams unification, besides offering high quality exams to institutions participants, could be as an extra source to rate medical school and cause improvements, provide studies with a database and allow a regional mobility. Objetivo Este artigo propõe a unificação dos exames de acesso aos programas de Residência Médica (RM) no Brasil. São destacados problemas relacionados à RM e a sua interface com problemas da saúde pública no Brasil e como esta proposta pode auxiliar no enfrentamento desses problemas. Métodos A proposta consiste na criação de um banco de itens para ser aplicado na seleção unificada para a RM. São destacadas algumas vantagens em utilizar a Teoria de Resposta ao Item (TRI) nesse banco de itens. Resultados Os exames de seleção para os programas de RM são elaborados e aplicados de forma descentralizadas, cada instituição é responsável por sua avaliação. A qualidade dessas provas é questionável, os estudos referentes à qualidade dos itens, a validade e a confiabilidade dos instrumentos não são comumente divulgados. This paper discusses the importance of social responsibility as a base for sustainability and tries to provide an overview of this relationship in Brazil nowadays. It is recognized as necessary the existence of three classes of economical, ecological and social sustainability and the big challenge of reconciling these three elements. Are included the results and discussion of a research aiming to identify the different viewpoints on these subjects and its awareness in a group composed by lawyers and other professionals. It is expected that this research may contribute for the adoption of propositions able to improve this degree of awareness in Brazil, including a better commitment of the legal professionals. © 2012 IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

MICR Automated Recognition based on Paraconsistent Artificial Neural Networks

The purpose of this paper is to discuss an automated computational system able to recognize MICR characters commonly used on bank checks based on Paraconsistent Artificial Neural Networks due to their intrinsic ability to deal with imprecise, inconsistent and paracomplete data. The recognition process is carried out from character features chosen in advance based on Graphology and Graphoscopy techniques. The analysis of such features and the character recognition are performed employing Paraconsistent Artificial Neural Networks. Actual checks batches were presented to validate the proposed study and 97.8 percent of the characters were recognized correctly by the system.
