We analyze a finite horizon, single-product, periodic review model in which pricing and inventory decisions should be made simultaneously at the beginning of each period. Besids the traditional cost such as order cost, inventory cost, there IS a new introduced cost called the reimbursement cost. Customers are ensured to be reimbursed the difference between the current purchase price and any lower price within a fixed future time limit. The price has a direct impact on the distribution of the demand and the expected demand is a non-increase function of the price. The model is formulated as a discrete-time optimal control problem. Its objective is to maximize expected revenue over the planning horizon. The existence of its optimal solution has been proved based on the (s, S, p) policy. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper we analyze and explain the performance of CIGS on Ti cells which have been mounted in the Dutch Delfi-C 3 nanosatellite that was launched in April 2008. The CIGS experiment includes several novel technologies for thin film solar cells in space. A new interconnect method based on pressure contacts between the cells was developed to minimize stresses between the electrical contacts. A thin protective coating was developed especially for a high emissivity. An electrical model is presented to predict the electrical characteristics. The thermal properties of the cells have been modeled and simulated. Effective cell temperatures in space were in between -100°C and 82°C. The following measurements were taken: IV-curves, indirect cell temperatures and irradiance in the array plane. The monitoring fraction was 1.4 %. The efficiency at 25°C was 10.3 % at 700 W/m 2 irradiance. The performance in space has been compared to solar simulator measurements in the laboratory. The performance after three months in space is equal to laboratory measurements for all four solar arrays. There has been no indication of degradation during the first three months.

This paper explores two important themes in the implementation of RFID in supply chain management: (1) analyzing differences between actual (perceived) and potential (expected) key benefits to see if there are benefit shortfalls for the key performances; and (2) performing a two-dimensional expectation-perception analysis (EPA) for the purpose of identifying competitive niche and strategically allocating and adjusting the company's resources. Empirical data were collected through surveys of executives of selected Taiwan based companies who had experienced RFID adoption in the supply chain practices. Finally, managerial implications and suggestions were provided for companies and industries that may be considering the adoption of RFID in SCM.

In this paper, the bullwhip effect in a two-stage supply chain with one supplier and two retailers is measured. The customer demand is assumed to be followed an AR(1) model and is forecasted at each retailer by using the minimum mean square error forecasting method. In addition, the retailers employ the base stock inventory policy. Among the findings of this research, it is interesting to note that the bullwhip effect in supply chains will be minimized as the retailers have the same market share.

Battery consumption is a key aspect in the performance of wireless sensor networks. One of the most promising technologies for this type of networks is 802.15.4/ZigBee. This paper presents an empirical characterization of battery consumption in commercial 802.15.4/ZigBee motes. This characterization is based on the measurement of the current that is drained from the power source under different operations of 802.15.4 communications. The measurements permit to define a model to predict the battery lifetime of a sensor networking application as a function of the sensor duty cycle and the size of sensed data.

In this study, optimization problems for a cluster of gas lift wells system, which are coupled with a production and gas injection manifold, are discussed. The main goal is to determine the optimum gas injection rate for each well that maximizing the total oil production rate. The total gas for injection is constrained by the maximum availability and the total liquid production rate is constrained by separator capacity. The mathematical model for gas lift problem could be written as a boundary value problem, where the two parameter family non linear differential equation of the boundary value problem represents steady flow equation along the tubing, satisfying wellhead pressure and bottom hole pressure as boundary conditions. Oil production rate is a non-linear function of gas injection rate, which is given implicitly from the gas lift model. A computation scheme based on genetic algorithms is developed to solve the constrained optimization problem with and without considering separator capacity. Our results show quite good estimation for optimum solution. This approach is also flexible to accommodate separator capacity constraints. © 2010 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

The evaluated company develops, manufactures and supports aircraft for the commercial, executive and military markets, and is developing new products for the executive market. In order to support this fleet in the American market, a new spare parts distribution and maintenance services network is being developed. This work has the objective of defining the quantity and location of service centers and the corresponding distribution center. To do that the spare parts inventory levels in each location were taken in consideration in order to minimize transportation and inventory carrying costs and attend the established service levels in an alignment with the competitive and supply chain strategies. The methods employed were simulation, to evaluate each alternative, and meta-heuristics, to search for the best solutions. The results led to locating the distribution center in Menphis and to a quantity of 7 service centers, much less than the current solution.

The locations may be coordinated through replenishment strategies and lateral transshipments, i.e., transfer of a product among locations at the same echelon level. The supplier has limited production capacity. Therefore, the total amount of product supplied to the N locations is limited in each time period. When total replenishment orders exceed total supply, not all locations will be able to attain their base stock values. Therefore, different allocation rules are considered to specify how the supplier rations its limited capacity among the locations. We team up the modeling flexibility of simulation with sample path optimization to address the multilocation transshipment problem. We solve the sample average approximation problem by random search and by gradient search. With this numerical approach, we can study problems with non-identical costs and correlated demand structures. ©2009 IEEE.
