作者: CIERI, AM The Author:is the director Equipment Assessment and Alteration Department Naval Ship Systems Engineering Station (NavSSES). His department is responsible for implementing condition-based maintenance initiatives at NavSSES and for program management engineering development and measurement of efficiency and effectiveness for the Assessment of Equipment Condition (AEC) Program as the agent for NavSea 915. Additionally his department manages both machinery alterations (MachAlts) for NavSea 56 and numerous ship alterations (ShipAlts) for the type commanders. In 1983 he conceived and structured the policy and procedures for the MachAlt Program at NavSSES as a result of a need identified by NavSea's ShipAlt Improvement Program. He served as the program manager for the MachAlt Program from 1982 until his current promotion this year. Mr. Cieri worked in the Hull and Deck Machinery Department for 11 years before moving into program management. His 29 years of federal service also include nine years with the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in increasingly responsible positions in both the Planning and Production departments. Mr. Cieri is a former recipient of the NavSSES Joseph Cacciola Technical Achievement Award and the Federal Government Economy in Government Operations Award for the Philadelphia area.

The last nine years were involved with service and small craft including operational maintenance administrative and training responsibilities within the United States and overseas. After leaving active duty Mr. Seteroff was involved in defining requirements to apply the U.S. Navy SNAP II program to Trident submarines incorporating SNAP I Intermediate Maintenance Management System—Real Time (IMMS-RT) processes into the OpNav 4790 procedures and supervised SNAP II hardware installations in the Pacific Fleet. He has conducted work estimating and cost estimating training at three naval shipyards and availability re-estimating tasks for the Navy Industrial Improvement Program and served as a project manager for information systems and logistics. Mr. Seteroff is currently the principal of Management & Logistics Associates providing professional services and analys to government and industry in the areas of management information systems logistics support analysis and integrated logistics support and is developing a logistics support analysis record data base application called LDS2B. One of her responsibilities during her three years at EPA has been completion of the EPA Guidance on Remedial Actions for Contaminated Ground Water at Superfund Sites. Prior to taking her current position at the EPA in May 1987 she worked for two years for the California Regional Water Quality Control Board overseeing ground water contamination investigations and cleanups in the South San Francisco Bay. She received a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of California in Berkeley and an M.S. in environmental management from the University of San Francisco. Bill Hanson is an engineer with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (OS-220 401 M St. SW Washington D.C. 20460). He received both his B.S. in engineering and M.A. in environmental engineering from Duke University. Before joining the Environmental Protection Agency Hanson worked for several consulting engineering firms including CH2M Hill in Res ton Virginia. At EPA he first worked in the Effluent Guidelines Program where he was responsible for developing pretreatment and direct discharge regulations for the electroplating industry. Hanson has been with the Superfund program since its start. He is currently chief of the Remedial Operations and Guidance Branch. His branch is responsible for developing guidance for consistency of approach with respect to selection of remedy land ban treatment requirements and treatability protocols. Carl G. Enfield is a soil scientist at the Robert S. Ken Environmental Research Laboratory (U.S. EPA Office of Research and Development P.O. Box 1198 Ada OK 74820). 作者: BALES, SML Susan Bales is the science advisor to the chief of naval operations and the assistant director for science and technology of the CNO Executive Panel. She is on assignment from the Office of Naval Research where she holds the position of assistant director for program support and special programs. Previously she was head of the Ocean Environment Group at David Taylor Research Center. Among her fields of technical expertise are radio-electronic battle management/space and electronic combat naval oceanography coastal dynamics ship engineering hydrodynamics technology wargaming climatology and the Arctic. Since joining the CNO's staff in 1987 Ms. Bales has participated in a number of strategic long-range planning efforts including the 1990 Defense Science Board Summer Study. She has been active in international exchange agreements coordinating the 1987 Labrador Extreme Waves Experiment (LEWEX) and chairing a NATO Research Study Group. She has lectured at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Webb Institute of Naval Architecture the NATO ASW SACLANT Centre the Admiralty Marine Technology Establishment and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute. Active in a number of professional societies Ms. Bales has served as vice president of the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) and chaired the Naval Engineers Journal Committee. Her research has been published in more than 50 papers articles and reports both here and abroad. She has received the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Medal was named the 1988 National Capital Senior Engineer of the Year by the D.C. Council of Engineering and Architectural Societies and was elected to membership in the COSMOS Club in 1989. She was married to the late Nathan K. Bales and resides in Myersville Md.
