The increasing prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in recent decades has underscored the need for more accurate and objective diagnostic methods. Electroencephalography (EEG) holds promise as a tool in ASD neurobiological research due to its ability to capture neural oscillatory activity with high temporal resolution. This study aims to analyze the neurophysiological differences between individuals with ASD and neurotypical populations by examining EEG data using Hjorth parameters. The preprocessing stage involved using a Butterworth filter to enhance EEG signal quality by eliminating noise in the frequency range of 4-40 Hz. The Hjorth parameters, including Activity, Mobility, and Complexity, were used to assess the statistical characteristics of the EEG signals. The analysis was conducted on EEG data collected from 5 typical individuals and 5 ASD ASD subjects. Our findings reveal that the Hjorth Activity parameter is notably lower in the ASD group across all regions, with the most significant differences observed in the left and right frontal areas, where average activity measures 0.236 μV 2 and 0.060 μV 2 in ASD individuals, compared to 0.512 μV 2 and 0.138 μV 2 in the neurotypical group. However, the Hjorth Complexity and Mobility values remained consistent between the two groups, implying that the fundamental structure of the EEG signals is relatively preserved. These findings offer insights into the neurobiological mechanisms of ASD and suggest the potential use of Hjorth parameters in developing more targeted interventions for individuals with ASD.

The use of cryptography techniques to guarantee confidentiality, authenticity and integrity of sensitive data has become mandatory. Besides, advancements in quantum computers are gradually posing a threat to public key encryption technology. Without proper security measures, fraudsters may easily gain access to one's personal and sensitive data. The result of the third round of NIST's post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) process for standardization of public-key cryptography systems brought CRYSTALS-Kyber as the first mechanism selected for key encapsulation. The aim of this study is to provide the specification of a reconfigurable CRYSTAL-Kyber accelerator using High-Level Synthesis (HLS) technology. Our architecture requires about 2200 LUTs, 3001 FFs and 28 DSP on a low-cost Zynq FPGA (XC7Z020-1 CLG400C). The total time spent by the accelerator in a key exchange simulation is approximately 0.84 ms, operating at 100 MHz, and the estimated power consumption in this process is 1.695W. © 2022 IEEE.

This article proposes the implementation of a captive portal system on a microcontroller to assess users' maturity regarding the safe use of public Wi-Fi networks. The use of public Wi-Fi networks has become increasingly common in places like cafes, airports, shopping centers, and hotels. However, many users are unaware of the risks associated with using these unsecured networks, such as personal information theft, privacy invasion, and cyberattacks. This study aims to utilize a microcontroller to generate a signal mimicking a known public network, where, upon user login, an educational authentication portal will be displayed. This portal will not only provide information about security risks but also evaluate the users' maturity level in adopting safe practices on public Wi-Fi networks, offering guidelines on how to protect their data and devices. © 2024 IEEE.

Static load models hold immense applicability in Electric Power Systems (EPS) steady-state analysis. This paper describes the most used static load models - polynomial and exponential - and proposes a hybrid system for parameters identification of the described models and EPS simulation, through an interface between the Python programming language and the OpenDSS EPS simulation software. Providing a theoretical foundation, this work presents the methodology implemented in the system, which employs computational optimisation with the method of least squares and the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, statistical analysis and EPS simulation. Its results, validated with measured data from various load compositions, acquired in a laboratory, indicate that the system has notable accuracy, precision and a wide application prospect in smart grids. © 2019 IEEE.

For the last two decades, electro-electronic components have become more and more integrated into automotive vehicles, with an increasing importance in essential functions implying the safe overall operation of the car. Although these innovations come as a car performance improvement, it can also have adverse effects (some related to safety) in case of malfunction. These undesirable behaviors can be caused by Electromagnetic Interferences (EMI), and the probability increases when a large number of electro-electronic components act together in the same environment, causing failures that may damage part or the whole system. In Brazil, the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) validation of these systems is currently a relative option and the decision of testing or not (and how deep) is up to each car manufacturer. Moreover, most of these validations are still realized out of Brazil, turning developments more expensive, more time-consuming and underusing Brazilian metrology chain. This paper proposes a study of the Brazilian automotive EMC validation context and a comparison with the worldwide scenario, taking into account its technical, economic and social impacts and bringing arguments to discuss a possible federal regulation. DNS tunneling uses DNS protocol features to establish command and control channels thus being possibly exploited as a malicious tool for data exfiltration. DNS tunneling security threats affect crossplatform systems within local and cloud computing resources. This article proposes an effective DNS tunnel detection methodology integrating cloud-based resources. The proposed detection methods compose an unsupervised machine-learning model execution for anomaly identification. The validation uses a collected DNS traffic dataset and shows the practical approach for C2, data exfiltration, and heartbeat tunnel test situations, as high levels of anomaly detection are obtained even for those lightweight data during the transfer process. This study has an operational approach and could be adapted to compose security control systems for organizations. © 2022 IEEE.

This study aims to implement a machine learning technique in identifying the irregularities of customer behavior on the use of prepaid electricity pulses. The methods used are Linear Discriminant Analysis and Logistic Regression. The performance of the classification system will be evaluated using the 10-fold cross-validation technique. Validation results are measured using accuracy, precision and recall values. In this research shows that the use of machine learning technique has a good performance in classification of electrical consumption behavior. Experimental results with the different amount of data testing indicate that Logistic Regression method has high accuracy, precision, and recall value when compared with Linear Discriminant Analysis that is 100%. This is due to Logistic Regression method can predict irregularities accurately because the addition of the amount of data does not affect the performance of the method. © 2017 IEEE.

A high impedance fault (HIF) detection method is proposed in this paper. Several parameters are extracted using the Stockwell transform, which is a relatively new multi-resolution tool with the ability to provide good resolution on both time and frequency domain, simultaneously. Those parameters are used to identify a HIF occurrence and distinguish it from other common disturbances such as capacitor banks switching, feeder energizing and solid faults. Two databases are used to validate the method, one with simulated data and one with real HIF oscillographic records, obtained from field experiments. A brief analysis of parameters behavior is also presented, since it is necessary for method's development. Results show the method is able to detect HIF on both simulated and real data in viable time, using only the substation as observation point. Also it can distinguish the fault from other tested disturbances. © 2018 IEEE.

In this paper is presented a new printed monopole antenna, bio-inspired by jasmine flower, that meets the Federal Communications Commission parameters for ultra-wideband systems. The design of the printed monopole antenna in jasmine flower has developed from a printed monopole antenna with circular geometry, with comparison results. The measured results of bio-inspired antenna in the jasmine flower showed compatibility with the parameters required by the FCC for ultra-wideband technology. It obtained bandwidth of 9.75 GHz, half-power beamwidth of 148 degrees, omnidirectional radiation pattern, gain of 5.99 dBi, power spectral density below -41.3 dBm across the bandwidth of ultra-wideband technology, small pulse distortion, and constant group delay, with variations of less than 2ns. © 2016 IEEE.

The penetration of distributed generation is growing, and today it is not unusual to see at the same site, equipment that consumes energy working side by side with power sources. To manage and optimize the use of every resource, and to avoid unbalances when the system operates near its limits, the need for very short-term load forecasting is inevitable. In this paper, the use of an already known, fast forecast algorithm, based on double seasonal exponential smoothing is proposed. His real-time usability, with only limited historical data are tested, and the mechanism behind to achieve that are explained. Results, the functionality and reliability on a real world system are also presented and discussed, leading to some concluding remarks at the end of the paper. © 2013 IEEE.
