A way to deal with the variations in the link quality of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is the use of strategies for Dynamic Channel Allocation (DCA). The first step to perform DCA is estimating the channel quality, so that the network nodes can decide if a channel change is needed, and the best channel to be used. This paper proposes a distributed approach with nodes dedicated to monitor channel quality, by using the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) and the Link Quality Indicator (LQI) to identify low quality channels. This approach is acceptable in industrial WSN, since the network deployment can be performed with adequate planning. Furthermore, the sensor nodes do not need to stop their operation for monitoring the channel quality. As a first step, experiments were performed in a real industrial environment to identify the relation between RSSI and LQI traces, and the Packet Error Rate for different channels, by using IEEE 802.15.4 radios operating in the 2.4 GHz band.

This paper presents an ac-dc-ac reversible nine-phase machine drive system. The grid side converter is composed of Y-connected single-phase bridges. As the machine is composed of three three-phase groups, a three-leg converters are connected separately to each group. The topology does not make use of input isolation transformers and reduces the power processed by converter switches when compared to that of conventional two-level converter. Moreover, harmonic distortion in voltages generated by the grid side converter is reduced when compared to conventional two-level converter. The model and the control strategy have been developed. Simulation and experimental results are also presented.

In this paper, a six-phase machine drive system fed by a nine-leg converter is proposed. The drive system is composed of a three three-leg inverters feeding a six-phase induction motor, which is adequate to develop a high power system with voltage rating restrictions. The studied system is compared to the conventional solution and it is demonstrated that the nine-leg converter permits to reduce the harmonic distortion of the machine currents and to decrease the power processed by converter switches. The system model and the PWM strategy are presented. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed system.

This paper presents a prototype of an acquisition board of electromyographic signals (EMG);an embedded portable, wireless and low cost solution. The system is composed of an EMG acquisition board, Zigbee modules and a device named GPRSx. After acquiring the EMG signal, it is sent through ZigBee wireless technology to GPRSx device. The GPRSx device sends the EMG signal to a server on the Internet by using GPRS wireless technology. Thus, the EMG signal is displayed in a graph on a remote computer. The results are very promising and may serve as a reference in studies for the biomedical area.

The penetration of distributed generation is growing, and today it is not unusual to see at the same site, equipment that consumes energy working side by side with power sources. To manage and optimize the use of every resource, and to avoid unbalances when the system operates near its limits, the need for very short-term load forecasting is inevitable. In this paper, the use of an already known, fast forecast algorithm, based on double seasonal exponential smoothing is proposed. His real-time usability, with only limited historical data are tested, and the mechanism behind to achieve that are explained. Results, the functionality and reliability on a real world system are also presented and discussed, leading to some concluding remarks at the end of the paper.

This paper presents the modular multilevel cascade converter (MMCC) based on chopper-cells suitable to medium and high voltage systems without line-frequency transformers. This converter is characterized by a modular arm structure composed by cascaded chopper-cells with floating dc capacitors. The arm structure requires average voltage control and voltage-balancing control of the dc capacitors. This paper proposes a continuous model and a control method to achieve rigid and stable voltage control of all the floating dc capacitors under common operating conditions. The validity of the theory is confirmed by computer simulation and experiment.

This paper presents an approach that allows to apply space-vector modulation strategy to eliminate common-mode voltage in multilevel inverters. The strategy is based on the reduction of the space vector diagram and on the choice of switching states in which the common-mode voltage is zero. Results were obtained with a real-time simulator and an experimental platform of a cascaded inverter up to 11-level shows its effectiveness. The influence of dead-time over the algorithm performance is investigated too.

It is composed of single-phase bridge converters connected in series in the grid side and single-phase bridge converters connected at the machine phase terminals. The proposed topology eliminates the input isolation transformers and reduces the power processed by converter switches and the harmonic distortion in the grid side.
