The immune system is a complex network of organs, tissues, and cells that plays a critical role in defending the body against life-threatening diseases such as infections, cancer, Alzheimer's, and Crohn's disease. Biomarkers serve as valuable tools for assessing immune responses to these threats and evaluating the efficacy of interventions such as vaccines and immunotherapies. They are particularly useful in monitoring immune function in individuals with autoimmune disorders, where the immune system attacks the body's own tissues, or in immunodeficiencies, where immune responses are inadequate. Biomarkers provide a dynamic and comprehensive means of understanding disease mechanisms through observational and analytical epidemiology, randomized clinical trials, screening, diagnosis, and prognosis. However, despite their potential, the clinical application of biomarkers faces challenges, including sensitivity, reproducibility, and the complexity of multi-biomarker panels. Standardization of analytical techniques remains a critical hurdle, as variability in methodologies can impact the reliability and comparability of biomarker data. Addressing these challenges through improved analytical characterization, validation protocols, and integration of advanced technologies is essential to enhance the clinical utility of biomarkers in immune system assessment and disease management. Moreover, biomarkers offer critical insights into disease progression, from early onset to advanced stages, though their sensitivity and specificity may be influenced by various factors. In this review, we focus on the effect of biomarkers on the immune system.

Different from general technology products, there are strict regulations and different usage habits among users (dentists) and end users. There were 223 valid dental samples collected and analyzed to elaborate the purchase intention and adoption behavior. The key findings indicate that dentist's adoption is significantly explained by brand equity and customer's prior knowledge. Moreover, the result indicates significant positive mediating effect by purchase intention to customer knowledge, brand equity and product adoption. Different from the commodity, the adoption of intelligent digital medical devices is affected by two significant external factors, professional prior knowledge and KOL's recommendation. The implication of this study suggests a gradually milestones approach for the development and sales in the field of dental medical technology products. © 2023 IEEE.

The aim of the research is to identify the main factors for developing the biopharmaceutical CDMO ecosystem. In addition, the evaluation criteria for biotech CDMOs building digital resilience are also analyzed. The data collection and analysis of this study are divided into two stages. First, the study employed semi-structured, in-depth interviews to collect valuable insights from key industrial KOLs. Then the expert questionnaires were distributed to conduct a survey of experts in Taiwan's biopharmaceutical-related industries. The main targets include a total of 60 experts from CDMO manufacturers, process equipment and solution suppliers, and MAH manufacturers. The conclusion indicates that the strategic development factors for biotechnology latecomers to catch up via regulatory and smart manufacturing paths. © 2024 IEEE.

This study is based on real field development background and practical experience in the construction of remote medical systems in rural areas, and analyzes the implementation and evaluation issues in rural areas. The research team includes telemedicine experts and M.D. to conduct empirical analysis. The study adopted a three-stage approach and mixed research methods for analysis. The qualitative interviews and expert questionnaires are employed to data analysis. The results pointed out that in the construction of a telemedicine platform, should consider the maturity of the technology, the operational process, and the familiarity of professional users. The conclusion section puts forward short-term and long-term development strategic suggestions for the construction of a telemedicine platform in rural areas. © 2024 IEEE.

In meeting bio-enterprise needs, university education often revolves around introducing students in the sciences to business, managerial and other professional expertise. This paper introduces the Bio-Enterprise Innovation Expertise Model, an alternative driver for bio-enterprise-relevant education that includes science-focused students, but also draws students from non-scientific fields, which are essential to the success of any bio-enterprise. Students are grounded in the global biotechnology industry and the dynamic of expertise required throughout the innovation process - from science to product. Against a backdrop of current approaches, the experience of the Business of biotechnology (BoB) program at the University of San Francisco (USF) is described. It utilizes the model to cohesively integrate multiple degree programs (business, law, information systems and biotechnology.) With a complement of three lecture courses and four study tours to differing global bioclusters, 95 graduate students from four degree programs undertook 170 BoB courses over five semesters. In terms of extensibility, previously unpublished Council of Graduate Schools research data is presented that shows master's focused institutions out-performing doctoral institutions at the master's level, establishing relevance of the model to all universities. The experience further demonstrates how such programs can evolve incrementally with strategic use of the model, opening numerous options for implementation, and increasing the potential to better serve bio-enterprise.

This study analyzes the decision-making support system based on artificial intelligence, which provides decision-making support and suggestions for doctors' clinical medication, and its technical characteristics. The study conducted interviews with 6 experts and scholars and analyzed a total of 267 experts with questionnaires. Three rounds of questionnaire interviews and responses were conducted from the four dimensions of 'technology', 'process', 'behavior' and 'influence', and a mixed method approach was adopted. The analysis method is used to analyze to clarify the technical predictions or expectations of technology developers and technology users for the application of artificial intelligence in clinical medication decision support systems. The research results indicate that the construction of the system requires a large amount of patient medical information, clinical treatment guidelines and other medical professional knowledge for technology developers. For technology users, there are issues related to 'user field' and 'user habits' regarding user processes and behaviors, so opinions are inconsistent. In particular, clinical experts believe that critical procedures and high-risk situations will affect the utilization rate of artificial intelligence introduction. Therefore, system development should include medical personnel to provide suggestions and feedback on the construction of the system, in terms of medical information, clinical treatment guidelines and other medical professional knowledge. © 2024 PICMET.

Objective:Liquid biopsy is a promising, non-invasive diagnostic tool for cancer, offering rapid and cost-effective genomic analysis. It provides a less invasive alternative to traditional tissue biopsies, with potential benefits in monitoring disease progression and detecting minimal residual disease (MRD). However, its clinical integration faces challenges, including utility assessment and workflow adaptation. This study evaluates the value of liquid biopsy in Taiwan from a clinical physician's perspective. Methods:A survey was conducted with 16 physicians specializing in thoracic medicine and hematologic oncology. Participants responded to a 5-point Likert scale to evaluate the timing of liquid biopsy adoption, willingness to incorporate it into clinical practice, and agreement on its role in managing specific clinical conditions. Results:Forty percent of physicians preferred liquid biopsy when tissue samples were unavailable. The inclusion of liquid biopsy under National Health Insurance (NHI) was a key factor in its adoption. Hematologic oncologists showed a stronger preference for liquid biopsy, particularly for MRD testing, compared to their counterparts in thoracic medicine (hematologic oncology vs. thoracic medicine: 4.2 ± 0.83 vs. 3.1 ± 0.60; p value = 0.01). Younger physicians valued turnaround time, while senior physicians prioritized test brand, with a focus on report speed. Conclusion:Physicians are generally less inclined to replace tissue biopsies with liquid biopsy, but hematologic oncologists show more flexibility. Test brand plays a role in physician decision-making, and the inclusion of liquid biopsy under NHI coverage is vital for its broader adoption in Taiwan.

Cell therapy is an emerging therapy that uses the differentiation and proliferation properties of stem cells to repair organ or tissue damage to treat specific diseases. In terms of regenerative treatment using stem cells, vigorous clinical trials are currently underway, and future industrialization is expected. The purpose of this study is to understand the feasibility of regenerative medicine industry by using USPTO data to analyze the global patent trends of four important technologies: mesenchymal stem cells, exosomes, iPSC and CAR-T. Subsequently, interviews were conducted with experts from the Taiwan Cellular Medicine Association, experts from the Stem Cell Society, physician supervisors of hospital cell therapy centers, and heads of cell preparation biotechnology companies, and other stakeholders to analyze the industry-university cooperation model of the regenerative medicine industry through the quadruple helix value creation model. The role played by the principal investigator, how social ties, e.g. “Simmelian Ties”, have become the key success factor of industry-university cooperation, and how external factors such as “Boundary Work” affect the operation of industry-university cooperation, and provide feasible suggestions for practice.
