During the last decade, with the massive growth of smart mobile devices (SMDs), mobile user experience has a dramatic perspective. Addressed to the problem of optimizing resource management in mobile computing, this paper proposes a novel resource management method using the Third Party Broker (TPB) which is designed to consist of four components as Manage Center (MC), Request Manager (RM), Connection Manager (CM), and Processor Manager (PM) to manage respectively the computing resources, user requests,network and services in mobile transparent computing (MTC). By the cooperation between different component, the TPB is able to support the mobile computation-intensive and resource-consuming tasks, and handle the users' requests fluctuation. Such a resource management method serves to effectively utilize local LAN resources to achieve computing tasks of single mobile client, and thus it extends the computing paradigm of MTC with the characteristic of local mobile device computing and remote server storage into that of local LAN computing as well as remote server storage. The proposed method is implemented and deployed in the testbed of MTC, and several experiments are carried out to demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the architecture. Experiment results show that the method is effective and stable in improving resource utilization of mobile computing. © 2015, Fuji technology Press Ltd. All rights reserved.

Integration of materials such as GaN, InP, SiGe, and Si is a natural extension of the 3D-IC perspective and provides a unique solution for high performance circuits. In this approach, application of a component is no longer dependent on semiconductor material selection. In this paper, preliminary results are presented which examine the thermal performance of the technology. A thermal analysis prototype solution in Mentor graphics™ Calibre® provides surface heat maps based on IC layout, material property, and geometric configuration files. Chiplets are connected by heterogeneous interconnect (HIC). Differences in thermal performance of GaN and InP chiplets are explored by varying the number of HICs. Two methods for building up the model of a test chip are compared. One method uses custom scripts to place discrete blocks in the model to represent HICs, while the other uses thermal material properties extracted from the layout. Measurements presented confirm simulated results. © 2015 IEEE.

Fabrication of the Kinect Remote-controlled Cars and Planning of the Motion Interaction Courses

This paper describes the fabrication of Kinect remote-controlled cars, using PC, Kinect sensor, interface control circuit, embedded controller, and brake device, as well as the planning of motion interaction courses. The Kinect sensor first detects the body movement of the user, and converts it into control commands. Then, the PC sends the commands to Arduino control panel via XBee wireless communication modules. The interface circuit is used to control movement and direction of motors, including forward and backward, left and right. In order to develop the content of Kinect motion interaction courses, this study conducted literature review to understand the curriculum contents, and invited experts for interviews to collect data on learning background, teaching contents and unit contents. Based on the data, the teaching units and outlines are developed for reference of curriculums.

Clustering transactions in sequence databases, temporal databases, and time series databases is achieving an important attention from the database researchers. There is a significant research being carried towards defining and validating the suitability of new similarity measures for sequence databases, temporal databases, time series databases which can accurately and efficiently find the similarity between any two given user transactions in the database of transactions to predict the user behavior. The distribution of items present in the transactions contributes to a great extent in finding the degree of similarity between them. This forms the key idea for the design of the proposed similarity measure. The main objective of this research is to design similarity function to find similarity between two user transactions by defining two terms called transaction sequence vector and transaction vector and use them for defining the proposed measure. We then carry out the analysis for worst case, average case and best case situations. The Similarity measure designed is Gaussian based and preserves the properties of Gaussian function.

The similarity measures such as Euclidean, Jaccard, Cosine, Manhattan etc present in the literature only consider the count of the features but does not consider the feature distribution and the degree of commonality. There is a significant research carried out for designing new similarity measures which can accurately find the similarity between any two software components. The distribution of component features in the software components has important contribution in evaluating their degree of similarity. This is the key idea for the design of the proposed measure. The main objective of this research is to first design an efficient similarity measure which essentially considers the distribution of the features over the entire input. We then carry out the analysis for worst case, average case and best case situations. The proposed measure is Gaussian based and preserves the properties of Gaussian function and can be used for clustering and classification of software components.

The Total Least Squares (TLS) is a denoising approach to take into the small system perturbations, and to restore the noisy images through a linear combination of the image patches. It can handle not only additive noise but also mixture noise. However, it suffers from high computational complexity and low efficiency. To this end, this paper proposes a grid-based denoising algorithm to speed up the TLS algorithm. Firstly, we utilize a mean value method instead of the bilateral filter parameters used in original algorithm to calculate the weight matrix, and then a strategy of making calculation every half patch is applied. It is proved by experiments that the proposed image denoising algorithm is capable of increasing the calculation speed by two orders of magnitude.

As massively distributed storage becomes the norm in cloud networks, they contend with new vulnerabilities imputed by the presence of data in different, possibly untrusted nodes. In this talk, we consider two such types of vulnerabilities. The first one is the risk posed to data stored at nodes that are untrusted. We show that coding alone can be substituted to encryption, with coded portions of data in trusted nodes acting as keys for coded data in untrusted ones. In general, we may interpret keys as representing the size of the list over which an adversary would need to generate guesses in order to recover the plaintext, leading to a natural connection between list decoding and secrecy. Under such a model, we show that algebraic block maximum distance separable (MDS) codes can be constructed so that lists satisfy certain secrecy criteria, which we define to generalize common perfect secrecy and weak secrecy notions. The second type of vulnerability concerns the risk of passwords' being guessed over some nodes storing data, as illustrated by recent cloud attacks. In this domain, the use of guesswork as a metric shows that the dominant effect on vulnerability is not necessarily from a single node, but that it varies in time according to the number of guesses issued. We also introduce the notion of inscrutability, as the growth rate of the average number of probes that an attacker has to make, one at a time, using his best strategy, until he can correctly guess one or more secret strings from multiple randomly chosen strings. Due to the data generated rapidly, many data can become knowledge after it is processed suitably. Many applications like Weather forecast, Stock market, Traffic control, Energy saving, Surveillance control, etc. have been developed based on Big Data processing [1, 2, 4, 5]. For the Big Data itself, it also creates some serious problems like huge dimensionality, data inconsistency, open access, security, privacy, uncertainty, etc. People like to live in smart cities as it is quite convenient to access to any things [3]. Especially for the Internet of Things, not only the devices are connected to the Internet but the human beings are also connected to the Internet. The smarter cities are, the bigger data create. How to manage such Big Data becomes a challenge problem. Especially, when the dimensionality becomes huge, there is really no efficient way to handle it. As you know, Big Data are really generated via Internet of Things. Hence the sensors are very important for both the devices and human beings. RFID is usually a sensor attached to a device but for the human beings, the sensors for face, fingerprints, veins, iris etc. are designed to get the specific physiological characteristic owned by a human being [6-15]. In this talk, we will introduce Big Data, Smart Cities and Biometric Recognition technologies and point out the problems we face and need to solve. Several practical systems are also introduced based on the Big Data processing.

The matter of great concern is that there exists wider gap between the proportion of the technologies generated by the public agricultural research system and technologies adopted by the farmers in India. One of the vital reasons for such wide gap is due to the lack of an appropriate extension/technology transfer model in agriculture that could establish better linkage between scientists and farmers in order to facilitate effective dissemination in a timely manner. Hence there is a need to develop suitable approach for technology transfer in agriculture. In order to bridge the gap between the technologies and the farming community, e-Velanmai project has been introduced. Under e-Velanmai, various applications and the projects are developed. Agricol, is one such application that can bridge the gap and it helps to provide the farming community with better solutions for the diseased plants in quickly manner.

The scope of this research is to aggregate news contents that exists in data streams. A data stream may have several research issues. A user may only be interested in a subset of these research issues; there could be many different research issues from multiple streams, which discuss similar topic from different perspectives. A user may be interested in a topic but do not know how to collect all feeds related to this topic. The objective is to cluster all stories in the data streams into hierarchical structure for a better serve to the readers. The work utilizes segment wise distributional clustering that show the effectiveness of data streams. To better serve the news readers, advance data organization is highly desired. Once catching a glimpse of the topic, user can browse the returned hierarchy and find other stories/feeds talking about the same topic in the internet. The dynamically changing of stories needs to use the segment wise distributional clustering algorithm to have the capability to process information incrementally.
